Story
Sweet Senior Seeks Quiet Home Meet Haus! This sweet, quiet Rat Terrier mix is around 8 or 9 years old and is looking for a peaceful home where he can spend his golden years enjoying strolls to explore and sniff everything. Haus is a gentle soul who loves nothing more than to soak up the sun and enjoy the simple pleasures of a quiet life. What Makes Haus Special Haus is a calm and easygoing companion. He’s already house-trained and is very quiet in his kennel. He's not a fan of a lot of commotion and would prefer a home where he can be the star of the show. He's a little shy around other dogs, so a home where he's the only pet would be ideal. Who is Haus's Ideal Companion? Haus would thrive in a quiet, calm household. He's looking for a family with adults only or with older, respectful children who understand and appreciate his gentle nature. He dreams of a home with a yard where he can spend his days leisurely sniffing the breeze and basking in the sunshine. He even still enjoys a few miles of walking each day. If you have a comfy spot on the couch, he'd love to share it with you too. Haus is in Stage 1 Kidney disease. He is doing very well on a canned food diet and occasional sub-Q fluids. He will need bloodwork a few times a year to make sure his levels are staying steady. Even with that diagnosis, Haus is still so happy and enthusiastic about life. If you're looking for a chipper, loving companion who will fill your home with quiet joy, Haus might be the perfect fit for you. Haus’ adoption fee has been waived due to his need for continuing care after adoption. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website. www.northernlakesrescue.org

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Ginger is pure joy wrapped up in a goofy, adventurous package. She’s a happy, playful girl who greets life with enthusiasm and confidence. Ginger loves people of all ages, gets along well with other dogs, and has been fine around cats too. She has a friendly, social personality but also has an independent streak that makes her fun and entertaining to watch. She has basic training, walks well on a leash (though she may still polish her manners), is crate trained, and does great in the car. Ginger is intelligent, eager to please, and always up for playtime. She has moderate energy and enjoys being active, followed by relaxing on her own terms. She’s the kind of dog who keeps you smiling just by being herself. One important thing to know about Ginger: she’s an excellent climber and a bit of a wiggly escape artist. Chain-link fences won’t hold her, and she should be contained in a secure kennel rather than a pen if confinement is needed. She’s clever and determined, so a home that understands her adventurous nature and can provide safe containment is a must. Ginger was found abandoned in a box, but that hasn’t dimmed her bright spirit at all. She’s resilient, confident, and ready to move forward into a loving home. She can be vocal when she wants something and will “talk” to let you know what’s on her mind, especially when she’s excited or stimulated by activity around her. Ginger would thrive in an active home that appreciates a smart, playful dog with a little mischievous sparkle. With the right setup and lots of love, she’ll make an amazing companion! Ginger is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Penny, a charming and playful Pointer mix eagerly awaiting her forever home! Penny is a sweet girl who just needs a little time to warm up. When meeting new people, she might bark excitedly at first, but she quickly settles down and shows her true, happy self. Penny’s Pointer heritage shines through when she’s exploring – watch her strike an adorable pointer pose every time she catches a new scent! She’s a smart cookie too, clearly letting you know when nature calls by heading to the door. If you don't let her out right away, a gentle pace and whine are her polite reminders. This chill girl isn’t picky; she loves her meals and isn’t fussy about treats. She’s currently taking an over-the-counter supplement for digestion, which helps keep her feeling great. At night, Penny is a perfect kennel sleeper. She rests soundly with the door secured, and in the morning, she greets you with boundless joy and a playful spirit. Penny thrives on connection. Though she might offer a small growl initially as she adjusts to new faces, she warms up quickly. Give her a moment, and soon she’ll be nudging you for pets and snuggling close. She’s a loyal companion who will happily follow you from room to room, always mindful not to be underfoot. When playtime is over, Penny knows how to relax, often retreating to her kennel for a peaceful nap. While some loud noises can startle her, Penny is a remarkably calm dog overall. But when she’s truly happy, her tail wags non-stop as she joyfully plays with her toys! Penny needs a patient and loving family who understands that good things take a little time. Once she’s comfortable, you’ll have a devoted, fun-loving, and calm companion. Adopt Penny and let her point her way into your heart! Penny Marie is from an owner surrender. Story
This sweet mama has done a wonderful job raising her puppies, and now it’s her turn to find a loving forever home. Helga is a beautiful, laid-back girl who is both independent and affectionate—a perfect balance for someone looking for a companion without the constant demands of a high-energy pup. Helga appears to be housebroken—she patiently waits to go outside and has never had an accident on the porch. She’s also doing well on a leash and comes back eagerly when called (especially if treats are involved!). She enjoys exploring the yard and taking her time to poke around, but she always checks back in with her people. She’s very loving with her foster family and happily soaks up pets and attention, but she’s also content to relax on her own. Helga does bark at unfamiliar noises, though it never lasts long. She is still heartworm positive and will need treatment, as well as to be spayed before adoption. As for cats, she’s a bit inconsistent—sometimes ignoring them completely, other times a little too interested—so a cat-free home or slow introductions would be best. Helga is ready for a family who will give her love, patience, and a safe place to call home. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who is both calm and affectionate, Helga could be the one for you.
