Story
Missy is a sweet 12-year-old girl who is adjusting to a big life change after losing the only family she’s ever known. She was lovingly rescued by her previous owners 12 years ago, but after her owner passed away and his wife had to move, Missy came into foster care heartbroken and confused. Despite everything, she has warmed up beautifully and is showing just how loving and gentle she truly is.
Missy is calm, quiet, completely potty trained, and wonderful on a leash. She loves car rides, exploring new things, and spending time outside going in and out of the yard. She is overweight and would benefit from regular walks and exercise, which she happily enjoys. She’s very curious and surprisingly quick for a senior pup, so she should always stay safely on a leash or in a secure yard.
She spends her days relaxing on the couch or her dog bed and is happiest with plenty of love, belly rubs, treats, and companionship. Missy gets along with cats and gentle children, doesn’t mind a busy household, and rarely barks. Loud noises and vacuums can make her nervous, and she may experience some separation anxiety as she continues adjusting to a new routine.
Missy would thrive in a patient, loving forever home where she can feel safe and cherished again. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal, but most importantly, she needs someone with time to spend with her and help her settle into her next chapter. She has clearly been a beloved family member her entire life, and she deserves nothing less moving forward.

---
Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape.
Missy is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 6/6/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page to learn more. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.
