Story
Missy is a sweet 12-year-old girl who is adjusting to a big life change after losing the only family she’s ever known. She was lovingly rescued by her previous owners 12 years ago, but after her owner passed away and his wife had to move, Missy came into foster care heartbroken and confused. Despite everything, she has warmed up beautifully and is showing just how loving and gentle she truly is. Missy is calm, quiet, completely potty trained, and wonderful on a leash. She loves car rides, exploring new things, and spending time outside going in and out of the yard. She is overweight and would benefit from regular walks and exercise, which she happily enjoys. She’s very curious and surprisingly quick for a senior pup, so she should always stay safely on a leash or in a secure yard. She spends her days relaxing on the couch or her dog bed and is happiest with plenty of love, belly rubs, treats, and companionship. Missy gets along with cats and gentle children, doesn’t mind a busy household, and rarely barks. Loud noises and vacuums can make her nervous, and she may experience some separation anxiety as she continues adjusting to a new routine. Missy would thrive in a patient, loving forever home where she can feel safe and cherished again. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal, but most importantly, she needs someone with time to spend with her and help her settle into her next chapter. She has clearly been a beloved family member her entire life, and she deserves nothing less moving forward. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* --- Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape. Missy is from Texas.

Story
Sugar Plum is a 12-year-old Rat Terrier with a tiny body, a big personality, and a serious love for snuggles. At just 10 pounds, she’s happiest curled up in your arms or cozied next to you on the couch. She’s a spunky little senior who will absolutely make sure she’s included in whatever you’re doing (preferably from your lap). This sweet girl has been through a lot, but now that her medical needs are managed, her joyful personality is shining. She is diabetic and requires insulin injections twice a day, which she handles like a pro. She’s also mostly blind and has only one eye, so she’ll need a little help navigating new spaces—but she learns her environment quickly and even responds to cues like “careful.” She also only has a few teeth left, so she’ll need wet or softened food for life (which she is VERY enthusiastic about), and often wakes up with her tongue hanging out.Sugar Plum is fully house trained and sleeps peacefully in her playpen at night. She settles well when left alone, especially with a treat or two. She’s not much of a barker unless she needs something—like being picked up now, thank you very much—or if meal service is taking too long. She’s unfazed by other dogs and cats, mostly because she can’t see them, and would do fine sharing a home with calm pets. Because of her need for calm roommates, she cannot live with small children (no kids under 13).Don’t expect long walks—Sugar Plum is more of a professional lounger. She prefers staying inside, staying warm (sweaters encouraged!), and staying close to her humans. She has plenty of toys in her foster home but no use for them.Sugar Plum is looking for a calm, loving home that will appreciate her quirks and funny spirit. In return, she’ll be your daily reminder that the best things really do come in small, slightly sassy packages! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
