Story
Please don’t be fooled by Gunner’s enormous, majestic hound-dog ears. They are mostly decorative. We’ve tested them extensively. Unless you throw on a thick Southern accent, there’s a good chance he won’t hear you — and even then, he may simply decide he has better things to do.
Gunner is a goofy, lanky, clumsy good ole boy who wakes up every morning ready to know exactly what everyone is doing and whether he can come along. He loves exploring, running around, stuffed toys, wading in water, and meeting new people. He’s also an absolute lovebug who happily throws his whole body into you for affection. Personal space is not really his thing.
Gunner’s story started with heartbreak. His previous owner left him chained to a shelter door, and he also needed entropion surgery. Yet somehow, he still greets people with hope, kindness, and a wagging tail, completely convinced that life is going to be good.
Like many hounds, Gunner has a mind of his own. He’s smart and self-motivated, so training can occasionally be a negotiation. He knows how to sit — he just doesn’t always see the point! Patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement will help him learn his manners. He’s doing well with house training, with occasional crate accidents, and he plays appropriately with other dogs while respecting their boundaries.
Gunner is still a young, enthusiastic boy and can get a little too excited around food, including trying to sneak snacks from little hands. Combined with his enthusiastic greetings, he could easily knock over a small child, so a home with older children or adults would be best.
Gunner is energetic, affectionate, silly, and full of life. If you’re looking for a goofy hound with giant ears, selective hearing, questionable personal-space boundaries, and an enormous heart, this good boy would love to meet you.
They were rescued from a shelter in New Mexico.

If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded.
Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets.
The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.
