Story
Red Ranger wandered up to a place out in the country one day and decided he lived there now. No collar, nobody came looking, no apparent regrets. So here he is, looking for the home he was always headed toward. He's young and he's busy- a dog with a nose, an agenda, and energy to spare. He wants a job, a yard, a long walk, a reason to exist. Give him an outlet and he's a fantastic dog. Leave him bored and he'll find his own entertainment- for better or worse. He likes people, he's good with other dogs, and he'd thrive with an active family or a playmate who can keep up with him. He already knows "sit," he's crate trained, and he's the classic coonhound blend of affectionate and mildly stubborn. What he needs is simple- somewhere to burn it all off, someone who can match his pace, and a soft place to land when he finally runs out of steam. An active home is going to be very lucky to have him. Red Ranger is currently in foster in Clinton, OK and is adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
We met Orphan Annie in person, which is not how this usually goes. When picking up Douglas in the next town over, we stopped in at another shelter and there she was- a redbone coonhound girl serving her stray hold in rural Oklahoma. At around 30lbs and likely a mix, we weren't sure she was the right fit for our program and we left without her. And then we couldn't stop thinking about her, with her happy, wiggly little body and smiling face. So we made a plan. A Hound Hauler volunteer signed on to make the 7 hour drive, a foster said yes, and two weeks later Annie's on her way to the life she was clearly meant for. Annie was picked up as a stray, so her full history is unknown, but everyone who's met her agrees on the important part- she is joy personified. She's friendly with strangers, friendly with other dogs, already crate trained, grateful for any attention you'll give her, and her foster says she's getting good at using the doggy door on her way to being fully house trained. If you've got a couch and time for a dog who wants to be near you, Annie would like to meet you. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application Orphan Annie is currently in foster in Tulsa, OK and is adoptable anywhere in the country.

Story
Meet Burger Jean King. It took two days, a lot of grilled burgers, and a tennis court to finally catch her. She'd been running loose in traffic and had no plans of stopping for anyone. She's cautious with new people at first- she'll check you out, take her time, and decide later whether you're worth the effort. Cats, on the other hand, don't even register. She'll walk right past one like it's furniture. For a hound, that's practically a party trick. Other dogs are where she really comes alive. No hesitation, no assessment period- she just likes them, immediately and completely. Burger is a good girl. Housebroken, crate trained, and currently negotiating the terms of "sit," fine being left alone for a normal workday, and good with kids of any age. What she's after is a home with another dog already in it and someone patient enough to let her warm up on her own timeline. She spent her early life running from things. She'd like to stop running and start staying. Burger Jean King is currently being fostered in Chanute, KS and is adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
2-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound Cash spent his life doing exactly what he was bred for- hunting raccoons, and doing it well. He knows his commands, both the basic kind and the working kind. He's crate trained, easy with strangers, and gets along fine with other dogs. A couple weeks ago, things took a turn. Cash got hung up in a beaver hole by his collar and spent two days stuck before anyone found him. He's healed up since, but something hasn't been right- he's lost weight, he's anxious in a way he wasn't before, and his coat's telling the same story his body is. Right now, nobody knows exactly why. He's currently on medication that's helping take the edge off his anxiety, and figuring out the rest is next. That's Cash for now- a good dog with a hard couple of weeks, still working out what comes next. helplesshounds.com/foster-application helplesshounds.com/adoption-application
