Story
Hey there — I'm Huckleberry, a 5-month-old brindle and white Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who's ready for adventure! 🐾 I'm already neutered and weighing in at a strapping 27 pounds, which means I'm going to be a solid companion as I grow. My shelter people say I'm adventurous, affectionate, and goofy — basically, I'm all about having fun and showing love to my favorite humans. 🎉I'm waiting to find my forever family so we can explore the world together. Come meet me and let's start our next great adventure! ❤️

Story
Meet Burger Jean King. It took two days, a lot of grilled burgers, and a tennis court to finally catch her. She'd been running loose in traffic and had no plans of stopping for anyone. She's cautious with new people at first- she'll check you out, take her time, and decide later whether you're worth the effort. Cats, on the other hand, don't even register. She'll walk right past one like it's furniture. For a hound, that's practically a party trick. Other dogs are where she really comes alive. No hesitation, no assessment period- she just likes them, immediately and completely. Burger is a good girl. Housebroken, crate trained, and currently negotiating the terms of "sit," fine being left alone for a normal workday, and good with kids of any age. What she's after is a home with another dog already in it and someone patient enough to let her warm up on her own timeline. She spent her early life running from things. She'd like to stop running and start staying. Burger Jean King is currently being fostered in Chanute, KS and is adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
Bosco spent the first part of his life in a hoarding situation- over 30 dogs, unsafe conditions, not enough of anything. He has since decided that was then and this is now, and he is here for a good time. Bosco has never met a stranger. He loves other dogs, gets along great with cats, and treats every walk, every hang, every regular Tuesday like it's the best day he's ever had- which, given where he started, it might genuinely be. He's good on a leash, crate trained, house trained, and smart enough to have figured out that a treat in your hand means kennel time- he just goes on his own now. He will become your shadow, your alarm clock, and your hype man basically immediately. His enthusiasm can be a lot for smaller or younger kids, so a home with older kids or adults would suit him best. Bosco has been through a lot. He doesn't act like it. He just shows up every day ready to have the best time possible, and he'd really love someone to have it with. Bosco is currently in foster in Oklahoma and is adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
Copper and his 11 siblings were pulled from a horrible situation in Sentinel, OK as puppies, where he and his littermates were mistreated and had no shelter. Three of his siblings, Graham, Petey and Delilah, have already gone on to show what sweet, resilient dogs came out of that situation through our rescue- and we expect nothing less from Copper. Copper is brand new to our program, which means we don't have firsthand stories about his personality to share- but if his littermates are any indication, there's a sweet, resilient dog in there waiting for someone to give him the chance to show it. Copper could really use a foster or adopter to show him what it's like to be a loved house dog- someone to be there for his firsts, cheer him on as he finds his footing, and figure out together who he's meant to be. There's nothing quite like watching a dog like Copper go from inexperienced to unstoppable. Copper is currently in boarding in Sentinel, OK and is available to be fostered or adopted anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/foster-application helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
Sherill's origin story is not a good one. She was dumped at a campground- someone pulled up, took her collar off, and drove away. The people who witnessed it didn't drive away. They kept her for a year, genuinely trying to make it work, before passing her to a friend who happens to be a serious Basset person. That friend has had her less than a week and says this basset girl is pretty perfect. Here's why: Sherill is housetrained, crate trained, leash trained, and does great with other dogs. No behavioral issues, no red flags, no drama- just a dog who settles in wherever she lands and does it well. The problem is she's landed three times already. Sherill isn't picky and she isn't broken- she just needs someone to be her last stop instead of her next one. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
Rubble is a 6 month old Beagle with the kind of face that gets you to hand over whatever you're eating without a fight. He's playful with other dogs, good with kids of all ages, and friendly with strangers. For a beagle that means nose first into everyone's business is basically his whole personality. He's still very much in puppy mode- crate trained and working on the house training part, prone to chewing and jumping like most young pups are. What Rubble needs is room to run and a family who understands that "Beagle" is basically shorthand for stubborn, loud, and endlessly food motivated. If you've got the space and the patience, he'll pay it back tenfold. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application
