Meet Clifford, our big red puppy Clifford is a likely ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a heart as big as his paws. He came to CalPaws after being found as a stray with a broken jaw. This incredibly sweet boy has already undergone several procedures and is now well on the road to recovery. For the next several weeks, Clifford will need to wear a muzzle to support his jaw while it continues to heal. All medical care is fully covered by the rescue, and his injury is not expected to have any long-term effects. Despite everything he’s been through, Clifford is still very much a happy, playful, rambunctious puppy. If you are hoping to adopt an active boy, look no further than Chance! Chance thinks he is a lap dog but he is an amazing running companion. On walks, Chance greets all of our neighbors with enthusiasm and tail wags, shouts and murmurs of enthusiasm! He is house trained, a great sleeper through the night, and doesn't chew on furniture! He has been very calm, patient and loving with children as well! Chance would do well in a single-pet household that can give him lots of affection, exercise and a steady routine. He seems to be territorial about sharing his indoor space with other dogs, even though he is super friendly when out on walks. He has great endurance for walking and running. He is laughably terrible at playing fetch but still loves to run around and play. Chance is quick to learn and has picked up a new trick in just a few days with us! He would be a champ with a little obedience training. Chance is eager to please, loves praise, and is very treat motivated. He has big puppy energy and a big loving heart. 🐾 Sadie ❤️ 🚨⚠️She has been at the shelter OVER 132 days! ⚠️🚨 📍1yr old Female Rhodesian Ridgeback Great Dane mix Meet Sadie! An affectionate, trainable, and eager to please sweet girl. 💥 Personality & Needs: She’s food-motivated, walks fairly well on leash, and offers soft, gentle eye contact. This sweet girl shows no signs of resource guarding and has all the potential to be a wonderful companion in the right home. Due to her prolonged time here at the shelter, she has become very fearful of men. If a man is in the home he will need to go slow with her. 👶 Best Without Small Kids: Sadie’s still very much a playful pup at heart. She loves to jump up and give big, enthusiastic hugs — which makes her better suited for families with older children rather than small ones. 🐶 Dog-selective, But awesome with the right dog!: She can be dog selective, so she would do best with slow, structured introductions to other dogs. She can be slightly over bearing and rude which throws most dogs into defensive mode. 😺 Possibly cat friendly! When walked into our cat room Sadie was more fearful of the hissing cats, showing no interest in them. I would still take any interactions with cats or small animals very slow with her. Sadie is full of potential and just needs the right environment to thrive — ideally with a rescue or adopter who can give her the time, structure, and guidance she deserves. She’s currently deteriorating in the shelter environment 💔, and we’d love to see her get a second chance.
