Story
Current Location: Alexandria, VA Fern is a 2 yr old, 60 lb bundle of life with energy and personality to spare. She is a sweet young girl who loves to play, sniff, and explore. She thrives when she is part of the action. Fern prefers being near her people rather than in her crate, and she lights up the moment she gets attention. She greets dogs with enthusiasm and greets people with pure joy. Fern has great house manner - never an accident, and fully housetrained. And she loves a car ride - sign her up for any outing. Fern will do best in an active home with another friendly, playful dog and a fenced yard. She loves adventure and enjoys staying busy. Her leash skills are improving, and a gentle leader has helped her make steady progress. Her training grows stronger each day. She knows sit and wait, and she is making great progress with come. She learns quickly and wants to please, which makes her a fun and rewarding partner. Fern gets curious when she spots squirrels, so her comfort with cats is unknown. She truly shines during spa time. She allows paw wiping, ear cleaning, and even tooth brushing without a fuss. She is happy to play for hours, but she also enjoys curling up in your lap to watch football. Fern is ready for her forever family. She brings energy, affection, and a loyal heart to the people lucky enough to welcome her home.

He lived with another dog as well as with cats in his previous home. He is also house trained and crate trained. He will make a great addition to his future family! Because of his size he would do best with older children. Hickory is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age appropriate vaccines. Rust is our gentle giant weighing about 100 pounds. He is a year old, but over the puppy shenanigan stage! He came to us no fault of his own after his owner developed severe allergies. Rusty lived with another dog as well as with cats in his previous home. He is also house trained and crate trained. Because of his size he would do best with older children.  Rusty is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age appropriate vaccines. I'm Jethro, a striking 7-year-old black and blue merle Catahoula Leopard Dog with a heart full of adventure! 🐕 At 71 pounds, I'm a solid, energetic guy who's neutered and heartworm-negative—ready to hit the ground running with the right person. I'd do best as your one and only pup (I'm selective with other dogs), and cats aren't really my thing, but I'm smart, friendly, and always up for fun. If you're looking for an active companion who'll keep life interesting, I need a fenced yard and a companion, come meet me and let's see if we're a match! 💙

Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.6/23 Still available! 2/22 This handsome boy is Blaze. He was rescued in February 2025 from a litter of 10 born under an abandoned house/shed. Animal Control picked up the sire and mother dog and 9 of the pups. They were all euthanized the same day. Not because they did anything wrong, but because the shelter was full. Blaze was the only one rescued. He has been fostered in a home since his rescue. He has socialized with the teenage boys in the neighborhood and interacted with them playing ball as a puppy. He has been taught to sit on command and fetch his ball. He resides in a kennel on the patio and has a fenced backyard for exercise. He gets along well with the small Yorkshire terrier in the adjacent fenced yard. Blaze has had minimal leash training due to his strength. He is really just too strong for his foster to have good control of him. He is familiar with a harness and leash, he just needs some training to not pull and to be more gentle. Blaze loves to play ball and chase squirrels and birds out of the yard. This young, sweet boy desperately wants affection and training. He is smart and eager to learn, he just hasnt been given many opportunities so far. He responds exceptionally well to any affection offered to him. He would crawl in your lap and snuggle you for hours if allowed to. He is moderately energetic and craves mental stimulation. He would do best with an active family who will give him the physical and mental stimulation he needs. We believe he would love kids, but he would probably be best with older, sturdy kids, only because he doesn't know his size and strength and could easily knock over a little one. Blaze is 1 year old and weighs 62 lbs. He may still grow a little more, but probably won't exceed 75 lbs once mature. He really just needs a chance. In the right hands, Blaze will be an incredible dog. We do not know his breed for sure. He is likely a mix of many breeds.  He is neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  Blaze is located in Arkansas. He can be adopted locally, but transport is available to the New England area as well. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them in PA, NY, or CT on Saturdays. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
