In the sweltering heat I was blessed enough to CHOOSE the Post Office to hang out in. I was there for months, and no one could get me...and they tried but they deliver MAIL, not SAVE DOGS for a living..:) The Post Master knew about a local rescue, and they tried to help me too...then I was hit by a car and injured... AND I found a girlfriend and she was my lucky break, literally. The Police Department was finally able to save us and away we went to the rescue! Just like the classic debate- Left Twix versus Right Twix... both sides together ARE THE BEST! Just like a Twix bar, I am super sweet, a little salty, and really ooey gooey! I was found when I was only 10 months old and brought to God’s Dogs Rescue. I was adopted shortly after but returned due to being a snarky teenager and showing tenacity and energy common with my breeds. Training would have been key! Anyway, since coming back, I have spent almost *4.5 years* living on GDR's ranch property in Texas. I’ve been overlooked all this time and it’s time for that to change! I have now been in a foster home for ~8 months. It took some time to adjust to being indoors again but I have learned the wonders of ✨air conditioning✨. It also took time to adjust to “less dogs” but I‘m loving my newfound personal space. There are other dogs in my foster home but, at my age, I prefer dogs that match my low energy. I would even be fine as the only dog. Certainly no cats or other small animals for me! I still have a tinge of that independent/stubborn streak from my youth but, at the end of the day, I am a BIG LOVER! I get so excited, wiggly, and bouncy with my foster mom. She gives the best hugs and back scratches, I give the best hair tumbleweeds. I shed A LOT! While living at the rescue, they took great care of me...too good, honestly. I put on a lot of weight but have now slimmed down some, too! I am eating less and getting joint supplements every day to continue working on my figure. I am a generally lazy guy but I am amazing on a leash and love to go on walks. More consistent exercise will help with my weight loss. I still have plenty of pep in my step (especially when I‘m on the hunt for squirrels) so don’t let my age or size fool you. I am so ready for my new AND FINAL home! I will melt your heart when you look into my caramel eyes and sweet, chocolatey soul. Don't hesitate, ADOPT ME!! So, as you can see I am a BIG BIG GUY(130#)!!! Like the German Rotties, I have a BIG old HEAD and a propensity to protect my people....... I need just the right home, no other dogs please. I was not socialized with other dogs while growing up and am a big boy and so introducing to other dogs is a challenge for the rescuers and therefore we are looking for a single dog home. I am a very typical rottie and was kept as a protector of the property. I LOVE my people and honestly would love to be a lap dog, lol, but I also need a couple or single who is a strong leader, who really understands my breed and who will assure that I stay safe and others do as well. Now, I have a sweet and loving side, and my friends love that about me ;) But look at my face, without my toothy grin, and you know they understand that I am a serious guy :) I love my peeps and am ready for just the right place. I can only be adopted in TX and HAVE to be met and introduced and spend time with me before the rescue will approve my adoption. So only the strong need apply!! - A very mellow dude who likes to be lazy and relax on the couch; LOVES pillows and will plop his whole body on top of them - an easy dog to live with and love - Likes to be with you for whatever you're doing; his foster family said he would lie next to them when they were getting ready, and if they put a blanket on the ground nearby he'd curl up and take a nap - A bit shy at first and may not be super cuddly right away, but after a night in his foster home he opened up more and liked to be close- Did well meeting new people at a recent event; may come off as disinterested at first, but shows his personality in a home environment once he's comfortable - Once he knows you, he enjoys attention, especially booty scratches! - Really smart guy who loves treats and can catch them in his mouth; already knows sit, shake (both paws) and lay down - and sometimes he'll do more than one thing at once, like lie down and shake at the same time! - Does really well in the car - hops right in and likes to look out the window - Would likely do fine in any housing setup, since he's quiet and doesn't have a ton of energy to burn off - Appeared to be potty trained and crate-trained in his foster home, and when he needed to go out he'd stare and half-bark; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new routine - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him, and he'd benefit from a more mature home- Can be socially awkward with other dogs, but may do OK with a low-key dog friend (dog intro recommended) - May have allergies (more info at ARL) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program.
