Story
Meet Morning! She is the sweetest most adorable girll! She is a 3 year old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Sinsoon and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app October 10, 2025, 5:54 pm

Story
Breed: Pomeranian / LH Chihuahua X DOB: 10/2023 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: medium Size: small Color(s): brown/white Description: Hi, I'm Birdie, a very shy Pomeranian/LH Chihuahua X who was rescued from an LA shelter. I will need a patient person who is willing to let me get to know them at my own pace. I warm up to people once I get to know and trust them. I'm in a foster home with other small dogs and I'm doing learning to come out of my shell. I'd benefit from having another dog in the home to show me the ropes. It's unknown at this time if I am good with cats or children. If you're interested in meeting me, please fill out an online application.December 4, 2025, 4:11 pm

Story
Pomi was rescued from a kill shelter. Many of these dogs at the shelter have barely survived the hardships of street life, car accidents, or abuse, only to end up in shelters. But once they enter the shelter system, they often disappear completely from society’s view, living lives no different from death itself. WEACT's Pomi was found in the Hongseong County Shelter with a completely shattered pelvis. Examinations showed that the injury had occurred long ago and had been left untreated. But what broke our hearts the most was that, even with her body so damaged, she was still cradling her young puppies in her arms. Pomi, a strong mother who tried to protect her babies even in despair deeper than death. WEACT performed an emergency surgery to realign her broken bones and perform a bone graft, and Fomi is now steadily recovering.

Story
Little Fox is a 10-year-old calm, independent soul who enjoys the simple things in life—naps, quiet spaces, and doing her own thing. She’s not big on cuddles, but she loves being nearby and will happily hang out in the same room, quietly wagging her tail. Little Fox doesn’t need much—just a peaceful home where she can feel safe, snooze to her heart's content, and show affection on her own terms. Her version of play is sweet and subtle—a tail wag and a roll on the floor. With patience and quiet kindness, Little Fox will show you the joy of a calm presence. She’s ready to settle into a home where she can simply be herself. To meet Little Fox, email us at adoptla@bestfriends.org. Please remember, pets cannot be held or reserved. Reach out and see if Little Fox is the perfect match for you!

Story
Meet Our Little Enigma: Brun 6 years old. 2 years in limbo. Surrendered for biting. Passed from shelter to rescue. He came to us matted, guarded, growling at the world. But we listened—and he softened. Today, his bark is mostly chatter. His past? Respected, but behind him. He’s playful, dog-friendly, and learning to love again. Brun is currently living with a trainer who will help transition him into his next home—foster or forever. He’s not for beginners or homes with small children. But for the right person? He’ll give you his whole heart. Give him structure. He’ll give you his trust. Adoption Fee: $400 Includes spay, dental, bloodwork, vaccines, and microchip.August 29, 2025, 4:00 pm

Story
Hendrix is an 8-year-old Papillon mix with two beautiful, mismatched eyes. His world was turned upside down when his family moved to Canada and, sadly, left him behind in their backyard. We don’t know how long he was out there, but it looked like he got tangled in his harness, leaving his shoulder sensitive. Thankfully, Shelter Hope heard his story and took him in. We’re not sure why his family couldn’t bring him along, but when he arrived, it was clear his teeth were in rough shape and he needed urgent dental care. Shelter Hope got him the treatment and now he is feeling much more comfortable. Hendrix is a quiet, curious, and independent little dog who enjoys his cozy bed, watching the world go by, and exploring his surroundings. He’s not quite ready for physical affection from new people and prefers to be left alone as he settles in, but he does appreciate having peaceful company nearby. With time, patience, and kindness, Hendrix is slowly learning to trust again. Once he feels comfortable, he’ll come up for soft pets and will even show off his obedient side. He knows the “sit” command, seems potty trained, and loves soaking up the sun. He loves to go on walks and explore. He’s gentle, good with other dogs, and continues to make progress every day. Hendrix would do best with a calm, understanding family who will let him come out of his shell at his own pace. If you’re looking for a peaceful, loyal companion who will quietly fill your home with love once he learns to trust, Hendrix is your perfect match! More from his foster: Hendrix takes a little time to adjust, after one week he has fit in with our two small pups. He loves attention and follows us around the house always ready for pats and attention. He walks well on a leash and is not aggressive to other dogs we meet. He has had no "accidents" and sleeps through the night on his bed in our bedroom along with our two ----- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Step 1) Application Step 2) Phone Interview Step 3) Appointment Shelter Hope is operating by appointment only. Be ready to adopt: If selected, our rescue counselor will contact you to schedule a phone interview. Please monitor your email and spam folder for our message.
