Our special needs senior, Missy, is looking for her forever home. Missy is a 100% sweetheart despite being blind (from built up scar tissue). Missy is currently in a foster home and her foster mom tells us she is the perfect dog if you're looking for a calm senior who is happy to chill most of the day. She does have eye medication which she gets twice a day. Her skin was in need of some help when Missy came to us but with weekly medicated baths, it has improved tremendously and continues to improve. She's about ready to be able to drop these baths to twice a month! Missy is in a home with another dog and, although she doesn't play, she's happy to hang out with her canine friend. Taking walks is not big on her list of things to do, but she will wait at the door when she needs to go potty and is happy to cruise around the fenced yard. If you don't have a fenced yard, she'll be fine taking short walks. Please consider adopting this special needs, senior dog. Some of our most heartfelt moments here at Satchel's is watching our animals come out of their shells to reveal their wonderful and different personalities. One of our most notable pups would be Miss Sicily. When she first arrived, Sicily kept her guard up, she was nervous and untrusting. She would let a select few staff members engage with her, but did not show affection and was more relieved when the interaction was over. Fast forward a few weeks, and we could see a small spark starting to show through, she was more willing to take treats from us and was more curious about going outside. She then found a lovely Woof Pack leader, Peg, who was willing to work with her on socializing and getting her to open up more. Soon she started jumping up on us when we went to clean her kennel, started giving us kisses and loved being rubbed all over. She started showing her silly side, playing with toys and goofing around. She was still nervous outside the kennel, and she still has moments when she is unsure about the environment, but her confidence has significantly grown since the day she first arrived. Sicily can still be a bit weary of men and tends to gravitate towards females, but we are so proud of the steps she has conquered and continues to, even today. She has shown us that the shyest of pups have a love for play and affection and sometimes it just takes patience and understanding to let their light shine through. Today, Sicily loves to go out with Peg in our back yard and run around, getting all her zoomies out and acting like a goofball. She loves to give hugs and kisses, getting belly rubs when she rolls over and just generally loves attention. Story
Chance is a playful, curious and active dog! So, he needs three walks a day and/or a shaded fenced in yard. I rescued him from a shelter because he was not doing well in that environment. He’s been thriving with me but I have a senior, special needs dog so I cannot keep Chance long term. He’s smart and independent with quite the personality! One evening, I noticed he dragged a blanket from the top of his opened crate and formed another bed out of it. He understands basic commands like Sit, Stay and Shake and is unique in that he doesn’t shed or bark much. Special note! If the person/family who adopts Chance lives within an hour of me, I'm willing to dog sit him for free when they go on vacation. The details can be worked out upon adoption.

Allman is the definition of a Boxer, from his looks to his personality traits! This 8-year-old boy is always looking for opportunity to play, and loves making everything a game. He is a great ball player and may not always bring it back, but his enthusiasm keeps the game going. He enjoys carrying toys around wherever he goes, squeaky toys are super fun, but Kong toys are also wonderful. He also has a prankster side with shoes and likes to untie your laces when you are walking. He is loyal to his friends here at Satchel's but can be a bit picky. He takes a little time to get to know people and, although he is high energy, he prefers a calm first-time meeting. Allman has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and they are working on his acceptance of new people. Once accepted, Allman is a loving, playful, intelligent boy who can't wait to be with you. He walks very well on a leash and loves going on adventures. He knows his basic commands and with treats, he can do them with a swiftness. Allman would be the perfect canine companion for someone who loves being active or has a love for and understanding of the Boxer breed. He would do well with a fenced in yard, or multiple walks to get some of the energy down. This happy girl lives up to her name, a sassy personality indeed. Sassafras is an adult beauty, with a brilliant smile that brightens anyone's day. She is the life of the party and loves to be the center of attention. She can not wait to go outside and either go in the yards and sniff everything possible, or go on a brisk walk, leading the way. Sassy is protective of her space and loyal to her friends but will welcome new people into her circle with a slow introduction. She doesn't seem to mind the company of some canines, but we have found her to be selective and she would prefer to have the people all to herself. She adores toys and goes for the stuffed squeaky toys every time. She will chase balls to the point of exhaustion but her favorite past time is water play. When given the opportunity, she loves splashing in a wading pool, chasing the spray of a hose and swimming in the bay. She is very treat motivated, which is helpful in her learning of basic obedience. Curling up in a comfy bed or cuddled up with a friend is the best way to end her day.
