Story
Brandy was originally rescued from a death sentence by her foster mom wanting to make sure Brandy received the medical care she needed for a torn ACL. Once the medical care was completed the family had hopes of rehoming her due to increased agression toward their first dog who is anxious and deaf. After being unsuccessful in finding her a home, they reached out to Satchel's for help. Brandy appears to have had a bad start to life but received care and love in her last home and is now looking to continue that love in a forever home. Although it was a difficult decision to give Brandy up, the home was just not the right one for Brandy and they knew Satchel's could help find that perfect home. Brandy takes her time warming up to you. She wants to know you’ll be good to her before she opens her heart to you. Once Brandy gets comfortable with you her personality comes out. She is playful and loves to give you hugs! Brandy walks very well on the leash, and she knows basic tricks: sit, lay down and shake. Brandy may be best suited as the only dog in the house because of the reactivity shown in her last home. But, there is a possibility that with the right pairing she will thrive with a doggy sibling! Note from a volunteer: "Brandy is smart, smart, smart smart! Maybe the smartest belle at satchels. She is an exceptionally obedient sweetpea. Petite and loves to fetch." For an appointment to meet Brandy, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found at satchelslastresort.org.

Story
Honey is a great dog with a wonderful personality. She is loving and VERY playful. She has been in our home for 4 years and has been around our little girls (7 & 5) the whole time. She loves playing and walking. She would be a great dog for an active family who can walk her daily or has a large yard. Things to note about honey: she has a hard time getting along with our other dog sometimes. She should be in a home where she is the only dog. She has slight anxiety with loud noises or changes and needs a calm and patient adopter.

Story
Hi, I am Celeste 💖I’m a super friendly and affectionate girl—especially with the ladies. I love playing with other dogs (boy dogs are my favorite!), though I do prefer to keep my food to myself—just a girl who knows her boundaries!I am eager to please and a quick learner, especially when you use positive reinforcement. I really thrive on consistency so I can understand my “jobs” and be my best self.My favorite kind of fun is shredding paper grocery bags my mom puts treats in for enrichment (it’s the best!) and enjoying tasty frozen veggies especially carrots and celery.I’m best with older kids and teens because unpredictable little hands make me a little nervous.I would love the chance to meet you and see if we are a perfect match. My mom loves me more than anything, but she’s having some health challenges and can’t give me the time and care I need right now. She wants the very best for me—a happy, healthy, and safe home where I can truly thrive.I hope that could be with you. 💕

Story
Apollo is a 115lb, 5 year old gentle giant with the sweetest soul. He is incredibly well-trained, fully house-trained, and truly listens. He knows his commands and aims to please. If you’re looking for a dog with both presence and manners, he’s that rare combination. He has been raised around my daughter since she was a year old (now 5), and has always been patient, loving, and trustworthy with her. He has never shown any aggression toward people. Because of his breed and natural instincts, Apollo does best in a home without small animals. This is not a decision made lightly. We got Apollo when I was home full-time, and now that I’m working, it’s clear he’s not getting the level of attention he thrives on.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Shadow's story. Information provided by his foster parents. Two years ago, Don and Evelyn went to a shelter to meet a new possible foster dog. He was a handsome, brindle boy but he had no use for them at all. Didn't want anything to do with them. However, they decided they were ready to take on this challenge and give then Drax (the destroyer), now Shadow, a chance at life. Shadow jumped into the car fine and laid down in the backseat. Ten minutes into the car ride, Don and Evelyn were quite surprised when Shadow got up, went over to Don and kissed his ear and then went over to Evelyn and kissed her ear as if to say "I think you might be okay". However, they quickly discovered that although very smart dog and well trained, Shadow was very wary of strangers. When you reached out to Shadow, he appeared to think he was about to be hit, and developed a defensive system leading them to think that he was likely trained with the fear and punishment method. A short time after taking Shadow home, they reached out to Satchel's to take ownership of Shadow while he remained in their care. Fast forward 2 years, and thanks to the help of Satchel's, Jeff Joyce and his team, and events they attended with neighbors and friends, along with lots of love and patience, Shadow has become a wonderful, fun loving boy. Shadow has learned that strangers are not his enemy and that he can trust them, have lots of fun with them, and get loving, treats and petting back. Although still a little standoffish at first, he will take an hour or so to check you out, and then will warm right up and make you his good friend. Shadow, now 4 years old, is ready to find his forever home with a loving family who will give him a little time to adjust to a new home and feel safe. For an appointment to meet Shadow, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story
Bennet is an approximately 4-year-old pup with a personality that is larger than life. This lovable goofball brings joy wherever he goes with his exuberant spirit, playful energy, and constant enthusiasm for the world around him. If you’re looking for a dog who will keep you smiling and laughing every day, Bennet may be your guy. Bennet is a social butterfly who gets along well with most other dogs and enjoys canine companionship. He has even successfully lived with chickens in his prior home, showing that he can share his space with more than just his dog friends. His friendly nature and curious personality make him a fun companion whether he’s playing in the yard, exploring on a walk, or simply being his silly self. Bennet is currently at the beginning stages of treatment for heartworm disease. The good news is that treatment is underway, and with the right care and a little patience while he goes through the process, Bennet has a bright future ahead of him. The shelter will be happy to talk with potential adopters about his treatment plan and what to expect during recovery. Despite this temporary medical hurdle, Bennet’s joyful attitude never fades. He approaches life with enthusiasm, a wagging tail, and a knack for making everyone around him smile. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a goofy streak and a zest for life, Bennet would love to meet you. He’s ready to find a family who will cheer him on through treatment and enjoy all the laughs, love, and adventures that come with having a dog like Bennet in your life.
