Story
Our special needs senior, Missy, is looking for her forever home. Missy is a 100% sweetheart despite being blind (from built up scar tissue). Missy is currently in a foster home and her foster mom tells us she is the perfect dog if you're looking for a calm senior who is happy to chill most of the day. She does have eye medication which she gets twice a day. Her skin was in need of some help when Missy came to us but with weekly medicated baths, it has improved tremendously and continues to improve. She's about ready to be able to drop these baths to twice a month! Missy is in a home with another dog and, although she doesn't play, she's happy to hang out with her canine friend. Taking walks is not big on her list of things to do, but she will wait at the door when she needs to go potty and is happy to cruise around the fenced yard. If you don't have a fenced yard, she'll be fine taking short walks. Please consider adopting this special needs, senior dog. Submit the adoption application (no commitment) found at satchelslastresort.org and an adoption counselor will call to set up an appointment for you to meet her.

Story
Some of our most heartfelt moments here at Satchel's is watching our animals come out of their shells to reveal their wonderful and different personalities. One of our most notable pups would be Miss Sicily. When she first arrived, Sicily kept her guard up, she was nervous and untrusting. She would let a select few staff members engage with her, but did not show affection and was more relieved when the interaction was over. Fast forward a few weeks, and we could see a small spark starting to show through, she was more willing to take treats from us and was more curious about going outside. She then found a lovely Woof Pack leader, Peg, who was willing to work with her on socializing and getting her to open up more. Soon she started jumping up on us when we went to clean her kennel, started giving us kisses and loved being rubbed all over. She started showing her silly side, playing with toys and goofing around. She was still nervous outside the kennel, and she still has moments when she is unsure about the environment, but her confidence has significantly grown since the day she first arrived. Sicily can still be a bit weary of men and tends to gravitate towards females, but we are so proud of the steps she has conquered and continues to, even today. She has shown us that the shyest of pups have a love for play and affection and sometimes it just takes patience and understanding to let their light shine through. Today, Sicily loves to go out with Peg in our back yard and run around, getting all her zoomies out and acting like a goofball. She loves to give hugs and kisses, getting belly rubs when she rolls over and just generally loves attention. If you are interested in meeting Sicily, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story
Anthony is a handsome golden Shar-Pei with a sweet, laid-back personality and a deep bond with his brother, Jack. These two are a package deal, looking for a loving home where they can stay together and bring double the love! Like Jack, Anthony is friendly with people of all ages and loves to play—especially when stuffed toys are involved. He’s a bit more social with other dogs than his brother, though he still appreciates slow introductions. Just like Jack, he isn’t a fan of cats and would do best in a home without them. If you're looking for a pair of affectionate, gentle, and playful companions, Anthony and Jack are ready to steal your heart. Come meet them today!

Story
Jack is a handsome black Shar-Pei with a relaxed, easygoing personality and a heart full of love. He is bonded with his brother, Anthony, and they are searching for a home where they can stay together. These two make a wonderful duo, bringing twice the love and companionship! Jack is friendly with people of all ages and enjoys playtime—especially when he has his favorite stuffed toys by his side. He can be a little nervous when meeting new dogs, so slow introductions are best. However, he’s not a fan of cats and would do best in a feline-free home. When it comes to food, Jack can be a bit of a picky eater, but his future family will quickly learn his favorite meals. If you’re looking for a pair of sweet, loving companions, Jack and Anthony are ready to bring joy to your home. Come meet them today!

Story
Meet Sarah, a delicate and sweet girl who has been through a lot in her life. After running loose on the streets for over a year, Sarah was finally caught and taken to AWL. Although she is still very shy and fearful of everything and everyone, she has been making progress with the help of her dedicated foster mom. In foster care, Sarah has been enjoying meeting other pups in the neighborhood. Although she isn't much of a barker, she will let you know if trouble is brewing. Sarah has nice manners, enjoys her little safe spaces throughout the house, and shows no aggression whatsoever. Sarah is looking for a quiet and gentle home with no small kids, where she can continue to heal and overcome her fears. She is a wonderful companion and will be a loyal and loving addition to the right family. If you are interested in welcoming Sarah into your home, please reach out to AWL.

Story
Carter is a sweet, lovable, and fun dog. He is very calm if you give him time to play and run around. He is now 6 years old, but he has a young soul and needs someone who will be able to give him time, love, and lots of cuddles. He does pull on a leash, so some training would be required to get rid of that behavior. Carter has a strong prey drive so he CANNOT be in a home with small animals or infants, but small dogs and kids who can crawl/walk are fine. I do not know if this behavior can be trained out of him. He tends to struggle with separation anxiety so chew toys are ideal, I can provide some. Ultimately, he is a very good and lovable dog, our schedules are just to busy to give him the life he deserves.

Story
Honey is a great dog with a wonderful personality. She is loving and VERY playful. She has been in our home for over three years and has been around our little girls (6 & 4) the whole time. She loves playing and walking. She would be a great dog for an active family who can walk her daily or has a large yard. Things to note about honey: she has a hard time getting along with our other dog sometimes. Most of the time they are fine but they have gotten into a few scraps that have hurt our other dog. I would say she should be in a home where she is the only dog. She has slight anxiety with loud noises and needs a calm and patient adopter.
