Who's better than the rest-y? That's right, it's me, Betsy! I am a cool Chinese Shar-Pei mixed female with a Tuxedo colored coat and white socks! My facial features even have a cool black and white coloring to them too! I was rescued from a bad hoarding situation alongside my siblings, thing's weren't looking good for us. But our big-hearted rescuers saved us and got us on the road to better care and living great lives! Betsy likes to chew on big bones, occasionally wiggle her ears around, and bark at squirrels. Now we're on our way to finding our forever homes. Learning how to socialize with other dogs, take walks, and play fetch with a ball. Stay tuned for more updates on my journey! Have you ever heard on the TV, well a hoarder's house has been raided and ... animals have been seized and sent to the pound or rescue organizations in the area.... WELL, we are FROM just that kind of situation :( The good thing is we were SAVED... the bad thing is that we had to ENDURE the neglect and disgusting home. The BEST thing is we were ALL SAVED by a rescue group who REFUSED to leave even ONE behind...... 30 dogs/pups ALL AT ONCE has been taxing and motivating for the rescuers. If you watch our video, the situation was very very challenging but our rescuers worked their butts off to save us. We are almost all ready for adoption, all the pups are social and ready for their furever homes! The young adults and adults are a little more shy but have been working really hard with our rescuers to be ready for YOU!! We are a unique "breed" mix, lol. Aunts/Uncles/Parents/SIblings... all "living" together. We have Shar Pei, Scruffy dogs, Pit Bull, and maybe Spaniel mixed in there :D We are all pretty much medium sized, 20-50# and cute as HECK!! Miss Bea’s journey really started when she was rescued along with 30 other dogs on the property due to an extreme hoarding situation. She was one of two mamas that just had her babies and she was so glad to be reunited with them at the rescue! She raised 8 of those babies and her sister raised the other 9 pups! They survived a horrible situation and both Miss Bea and her sister, Betsy (also available for adoption), were just wonderful mamas. Now it is THEIR TURN to find homes!!! Miss Bea's foster moms adore her and here is what they have to say, " We knew the task to foster Miss Bea was going to be a slow process. We had been briefed about her being feral and was familiar after fostering her son, sweet Hondo, what it would take. With some love, patience, and a bit of know how , she has turned into my little “happy to see me” shadow (see her videos!!). She has a big bark for a little girl but it is only when appropriate. Loves yummy treats and affection from the people she knows and trust so much so she will paw at you to keep going. She isn’t the biggest fan of going for walks because outside can be scary sometimes but does have some leash confidence. She has no issues with being in the presence of kids. She is great with our other dog and is potty and kennel trained. We couldn’t pick her up for months but now she just plops on me like we have known each other our whole lives. Miss Bea needs a special home that will give her the time and gentleness to allow her to open up." Bea has been given a NEW LIFE and she is ready to SHARE THAT LIFE and HOPE WITH YOU!!! Beneath that fuzzy and cute exterior is a TRUE SURVIVOR!! ***(please watch the video attached to see what he endured as a pup-young adult :( **** Stanley, and his sisters/brothers/cousins/uncles/dad and various other relatives, came to us from HORRID conditions! With nutrition and skins issues that compounded his fear and mistrust of people.... With LOVE, medication, healthy nutrition and time, care, and understanding Stanley has physically healed from his ordeal. He is healing psychologically too! He searches out for affection and has finally decided people are not ALL bad!!! The rescue peeps have worked SOOOOO HARD to heal and help him learn what it means to be a dog who is truly loved. AND HE IS!!! Now, Stanley still needs a patient and understanding adoptive family. Someone who will take all the time he needs to know where he belongs, he requires another social and playful dog to help him continue to grow more confident and loving!! To schedule a time to meet this animal, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Believes in his heart that he's a lap dog; will settle for being as close to you as physically possible when he doesn't quite fit - Can be quite a clumsy, spacey guy but tries his best to please his people in his signature goofy fashion! Currently working very hard on mastering "Sit" - Has been quite friendly meeting new friends in his foster homes. Young kiddos may be a little overwhelming for this guy, so he'd thrive in a mature home with people who understand and respect canine body language (mature home recommended) - Has enjoyed playing with his foster dog sibling, though can be a bit tentative to really get playing with her. He would probably enjoy a dog friend that can let him settle in at his own pace! - Was initially quite scared of the cats in his foster home; has started to show some curiosity but otherwise keeps his distance - Has proven to be house trained in his foster home, though every dog will need some patience as they adjust to a new home's schedule - The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed.
