Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Holand is the sweetest pup, found wandering alone before being taken in by a kind rescuer in Houston. He loves sunbathing and napping on soft beds and couches. Holand loves to play with toys, but give him a chewy treat or bone, and he's the happiest camper. He’s not food-aggressive and does well in a home with other dogs and cats, though he doesn’t seek out their companionship. Holand is kenneled overnight and spends his days in the common areas and yard, always preferring to be where his people are. We’ve now also started leaving him out at night and he’s a great boy and sleeps soundly all night on his dog bed. He is a gentle giant, very good with kids, and never jumps. He is super quiet and does not bark, except occasionally when left alone. He likes soft, stuffy toys and entertains himself with them. He's not a fan of going outside before breakfast, but has learned that it is part of the house schedule. He also needs a quick trip outside after meals and drinking large amounts of water. Speaking of water, he loves drinking it! Holand loves his people and even has a cute little hop when he sees his favorites! This mellow guy doesn’t have separation anxiety but would thrive in a home with people who are home more often than not. He would prefer a family that has a slower lifestyle and wants a calm, in-house companion. Holand just wants his own people to love him and a sunny spot in the yard to snooze in. Holand is from Texas. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you. Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
