Story
This Sheltie requires a yard with a secure, physical fence with direct access from the house. We adopt locally to the Twin Cities metro. We are not able to coordinate distance placements. Apply at Adoption Wes, aka Grandpa Wes, Buddy and Teddybear, is an amazing little guy! He has such a sweet personality! He will be a great addition for a senior-loving single-story home, or a home that can accommodate his age-related vision limitations by blocking off access to stairs. Age: 12 yrs young! Size: 25 lbs. Temperament: Wes is very sweet, highly treat-motivated, and has a fun personality. Wes was shy and unsure when he first came to rescue, but he has blossomed in his foster home and has quite a spunky and fun personality. Fence: Recommended due to vision limitations and because Wes does not have experience with leash walks. Dogs: Wes gets along with the other dogs in his foster home, including Shelties and 5 lb. Chihuahuas. Cats: No cats in his foster home. Wes reportedly got along with the cat in his previous home. Kids: No kids in his foster home and Wes has not had exposure to children. Due to some vision limitations, Wes would do best in an adult home, or a home with an older child who understands about giving a senior dog space and waiting for a dog to initiate interaction, and who can be responsible to close doors to prevent accidental escape. Crate Use: Wes uses a crate when transported in the car, and has free run of the house in his foster home. Housetrained: Yes Responds to Cues: Wes does well with routine and predictability. It can take him a few days to get used to a new environment. Once Wes is familiar with the layout of the home and routine of going outside, he does very well. Wes responds to his name and nicknames. Leash Walks: Wes is new to wearing a collar and using a leash. Car Rides: Car rides have been to go to the vet and groomer. Wes is crated for transport for his safety. Activity Level: Low, as expected for his age. When excited, Wes can break into a frolic and looks like a little goat hopping around! It’s absolutely adorable! Wes may pace when he is in a new environment or getting used to a new routine. Barking: Wes is very quiet - such a plus! He will bark with joy when excited. This is usually out in the yard when he’s really happy. Health: While in rescue, Wes has had an exam, bloodwork, thyroid test, tick screen, heartworm test, vaccinations, and a dental with extractions. He still has many teeth left to enjoy his treats and chews, and is in good shape for a senior! He is on Carprofen daily. Wes does have limited vision. He can see well enough not to bump into objects, but has trouble with distance and depth perception (stairs). Extra precautions need to be taken to make sure Wes does not have unsupervised access to stairs, or that stairs are blocked with a gate. All that Wes requires is a home full of love, some safety precautions to accommodate his vision limitations, ….and treats! He will be such a joy in your life! Adoption fee: $250 We adopt locally in the Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota.

Story
This Sheltie requires a yard with a secure, physical fence with direct access from the house, a canine mentor, and a human who understands shy dogs. We adopt locally to the Twin Cities metro. We are not able to coordinate distance placements. Apply at Adoption Fawn is an adorable petite Sheltie who would like a family of her own. She is a breeder release who is learning how to be a house dog and a companion. Fawn does best in a predictable household with routine. Fawn requires a canine companion and a securely fenced yard to progress safely in her new home. Age: 6 years (BD: 5/29/2019) Size: 18 lbs. Temperament: Fawn is sweet, and with time becomes affectionate. She has made great strides in her foster home. She is shy around new people and in new settings. She likes to find a safe spot near the person she trusts where she can observe her surroundings. The safer she feels and the more comfortable she gets, the more her fun and loving personality comes out! She enjoys visiting with her foster mom in her chair and loves to get pets and scratches. Fence: A secure, physical fence with direct access from the house is required because Fawn is a flight risk and hides when frightened, and she does not have experience with leashed walks. Dogs: Fawn does not actively play with the other dogs in her foster home, but she does show interest and follows their cues. She needs a canine companion to be her role-model. Cats: Unknown. There are no cats in her foster home. Kids: Unknown. There are no children in her foster home and Fawn has not been around children. She will need an adult home or a home with an older child who understands about giving a dog space and waiting for a dog to initiate interaction, and who is responsible enough to close doors to prevent accidental escape. Crate Use: Fawn is quiet and calm in her safety crate in the car. She has free run of the house when her foster family is not at home. She can jump a 2 foot gate with ease! Housetrained: Yes Responds to Cues: Fawn thrives with routine and predictability. She can be nervous and unsure when the routine is disrupted or if something unexpected happens. She responds to her name. She has not had formal training while we focused on helping her adjust to living in a household. Leash Walks: Fawn is not trained to go for walks on a leash, but does walk on leash at the vet clinic. For her safety, Fawn should not be taken on leash walks outside a fenced area for at least 4 weeks, and not before she feels safe with her person and has practiced leash walks within the fenced yard for several weeks. She is a flight risk. Car Rides: Fawn rides in a crate in the car for her safety. Car rides have been to go to the vet and groomer. Activity Level: Moderate. When excited, Fawn can have bursts of energy! She races around with her tail wagging and likes to tell everyone how excited she is! She can also race around when anxious or unsure and can go into “flight mode” looking for a spot to hide. Extra precautions need to be taken to make sure Fawn stays safe and secure until she feels comfortable with her people and surroundings. Barking: Fawn barks with joy when excited! This is usually when her person comes home, if it’s time to eat, or if her Sheltie foster brothers start barking. Health: Fawn was diagnosed with a bladder stone upon arrival in rescue. Medication and prescription food dissolved the stone and she has had no further issues. She will need to stay on this food to prevent UTIs and bladder stones. Fawn is on anxiety medication to help her adjustment to living in a household as a family member. The medication has helped a lot with her fear and anxiety. Experienced Home: Fawn will blossom in a home experienced in allowing the dog to set the pace for interaction and building trust, and who understands the precautions needed to keep a shy dog safe. A home with routine and consistency will be very helpful. Now that Fawn is feeling better medically and emotionally, her personality is beginning to shine and she is ready to start her new life! Adoption fee: $350 We adopt locally in the Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota.

Story
✨🐾 Looking for a Special Home for a Very Special Sheltie 🐾✨ We are searching for the perfect forever home for our purebred Sheltie, a sweet 9-month-old boy with a huge heart and a few unique challenges. When he was a tiny puppy, his mom accidentally sat on him, which left him blind in one eye and possibly with some neurological quirks. Because of this, he has good days and bad days, and he’ll need someone who can offer patience, consistency, and lots of love. 🌟 About Him: • 9 months old, purebred Sheltie • Blind in one eye • May have some mild neurological issues • He can be aggressive at times. • Currently on gabapentin (we’re not seeing much improvement with it) • Needs extra attention, gentle handling, and a calm environment • Incredibly sweet, affectionate, and tries so hard to be a good boy • LOVES being close to his people and thrives with routine • On good days, he’s playful, goofy, and full of personality

These pups are in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota too!

Story
Hi! My name is Jimmy Chew and I am a happy-go-lucky boy, with a great personality, inquisitive nature, and playful energy, oh and I am handsome if I do say so myself. I am a Collie born approx 10/4/24. My favorite things are balls, ropes, stuffed toys and while I would love for you to play with me I am also very happy to just play with these things by myself too. Some of the toys get a little worse for wear with me around so my mom also gives me plenty of chews to keep me busy. I do pretty good in my crate, but I will bark if I can hear you walking around in the house and you are keeping me out of the fun. I sleep well in there and have been good when left alone. I am doing well at going potty outside although once in a while I get a little over excited and leak a little, I am working on that. I am underfoot on a walk but I am already improving. And I love zooming around my yard outside- I literally run circles around my mom and foster brothers. And I like to swim! I’m good with kids, love other dogs, and am untested with cats. Is that enough about me? Do you want to pet me? Throw the ball? Tug the rope? Maybe I will answer more questions once you talk em home! LETS PLAY! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $585.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 15, 2025, 10:17 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $250 plus taxMeet Finn Finn is an 8-year-old, 50-lb mellow guy who loves napping, short walks, and hanging out near his people. He enjoys toys (especially if treats are involved!), can be cuddly, and also appreciates his personal space. Finn is anxious around loud noises and reactive when he sees other dogs, so he’s looking for a quiet home where he can be the only pet. He hasn’t lived with cats but has ignored chickens. He greets people calmly outside the home and politely “announces” visitors with a bark. He does best with a predictable routine and would thrive in a home where someone is around more often—his current home’s 12-hour shifts are just too hard on him. Respectful children are fine. Finn is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and eats a prescription urinary diet. If you’re looking for a loyal, laid-back companion, Finn is ready to meet you.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history. //

Story
Koala is an approx. 5-year-old, 42-pound Corgi mix who may be a bit nervous at first, but once she feels comfortable, her sweet and affectionate personality shines through. She forms strong bonds with her people and is eager to please once trust is established. Koala gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys their company. While her experience with cats is unknown, she does not currently display any prey drive. She is crate trained, house trained, and has been a quiet, well-mannered guest in her foster home—she hasn’t barked once.   Koala rides very well in the car and walks nicely on a leash, though she can startle with sudden movements or loud noises, so a calm and patient handler will help her feel secure on walks.   With gentle guidance and consistency, Koala will continue to blossom into a confident and loyal companion. She’s a loving, easygoing dog who’s ready to find a forever home where she can feel safe and cherished. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
