Story
Cousin Larry was brought in by Dracut Animal Control as a stray. He was wearing a white/brown/pink striped collar, kind of like Neapolitan Ice cream. I was going through our surrender forms a couple days later and came across a form for him from a woman named Luz Taveras (). In the form, it stated that she was given the dog by a family member a month ago and because she was pregnant and living in a small apartment - she was unable to continue caring for him. Then, a couple days later he came in as a stray. I emailed that form over to Dracut Animal Control. I realized later that week that on the back of the animal control intake sheet, it says that the dog was found by a good samaritan named Yaritza Taveras. Same last name as the person on the surrender form. That same night, someone named Jamie Flood sent us an email stating that she had been looking for her dog. She said that she gave the dog to her cousin in MA early last week and he `ran away` from her house but neither of them are able to take him back. Since Cousin Larry has been here, he has been very hard to handle and just yesterday afternoon 6/14/26 - he was being brought back into the kennel and attempted to go after me. He had no issue for leashing up, walked great for the walk, did great during his exam with the veterinarian and was doing good going back into the kennel until I unclipped the harness. He gave me absolutely no warning or body language that showed discomfort, fear or anxiety. As soon as I unbuckled the harness under his armpit, he began jumping, screaming, and attempting to bite my hands. I slammed the kennel door with my leg and he went for my hands as I tried to put the lock back into the handle. I put my foot at the bottom of the kennel door since I had to pull my hand away from the handle and he then went after my foot. I was able to lock the kennel door when he was focused on my feet. He continued to jump at the kennel door but I backed up and gave him a minute to settle. He was still wearing the harness and since I was unable to go in there to take it off and I wasn`t able to grab the leash through the kennel door without him trying to bite me. I attempted to use a long grabber. The harness was unclipped under his armpit so I would just need to lift up the leash and it would come right off. He began biting at the grabber and jumping at the kennel door when I would try to grab the handle of the leash. There was a point where he wasn`t paying attention to the grabber s

Story
Meet Phoebe, an 8-year-old shepherd mix with soulful eyes and an even softer heart. This sweet girl has been through quite a journey recently—she came to us in need of emergency surgery for a serious uterine infection called pyometra—but handled everything like an absolute champion. Now fully recovered, Phoebe is ready to find the calm, loving home she deserves.Phoebe is the definition of a loyal companion. In her foster home, she’s become a total shadow dog, happily following her foster mom from room to room just to be close to her people. She forms deep bonds and has the sweetest submissive smile she gives when greeting her favorite humans—a little expression that’s impossible not to fall in love with. While Phoebe enjoys a quieter lifestyle these days, don’t mistake her for a couch potato. She still has plenty of pep in her step and loves long walks, exploring outside, playing with toys, and soaking up fresh air on the porch. One of her cutest quirks? She insists on sleeping with a toy tucked under her chin or cuddled in her arms every night.Phoebe is looking for an adult-only home where she can truly settle in and feel comfortable. She could potentially live with another dog after slow, thoughtful introductions—or she’d be just as happy soaking up all the love as your one and only. With proper introductions, she may also be able to coexist with a dog-savvy cat.If you’re searching for a devoted best friend who will happily join you for walks, curl up beside you for movie nights, and love you with her whole heart, Phoebe may just be the perfect addition to your family.

Story
Meet Binki—your resident goofball genius, professional good boy, and full-time “bull in a china shop.” At 3 years old, this pittie mix has the brains and the personality to keep life interesting (and entertaining).Binki already comes with a solid starter pack of commands—sit, lay down, paw, other paw (because he’s an overachiever), and even roll over. He’s incredibly smart and eager to please, which means he picks things up quickly… but it also means he gets bored just as fast. This is a dog who thrives when he has something to do, whether that’s brushing up on his skills, learning new tricks, or heading out on adventures. And adventures? Yes please. Binki loves getting out for hikes with our volunteers and would do best in an active home that can keep up with his energy and zest for life. He’s the kind of dog who will happily join you for a trail walk and then crash hard afterward like the satisfied little tank he is.Because Binki can sometimes forget his size and enthusiasm (again… bull in a china shop), he’d do best with older, dog-savvy kids who can handle his playful, sometimes bouncy nature. He can be a bit dog selective—though honestly, who isn’t in a shelter environment—but with the right match and proper introductions, he could potentially have a canine friend. He may also be okay with a dog-savvy cat given slow, structured introductions, but truthfully? Binki would be just as happy soaking up all the love as your one and only. This boy thrives on consistency, structure, and a home that appreciates both his smarts and his silly side. Continued training would be a great outlet for him, but even just keeping his routine stable and engaging will set him up for success. If you’re looking for a loyal, active, slightly chaotic best friend who will make you laugh daily and love you endlessly—Binki is your guy.
