Story
🐾 Meet Polo — Your Big, Lovable Shadow! 🐾 Polo is an 8-year-old gentle giant with a heart every bit as big as he is. This sweet boy is a total baby who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. If you’re sitting, he wants to be leaning against you Here at the shelter, Polo is feeling very stressed and overwhelmed, and it shows in some jumpy, excited behavior. He doesn’t always remember his manners, but with patience, routine, and kindness, he’ll absolutely blossom. Because of this, Polo is looking for an adult only home or a home with teens and up that way he and everybody else are most comfortable! He already knows sit, give paw, and lay down, and with the right guidance he can keep building on those good manners. Polo loves all toys, but rope toys are his absolute favorite! A good game of tug-o-war will make his whole day. He’s a big, strong guy and gets very excited on leash — he pulls with enthusiasm — so his adopters should be prepared for his strength and help him learn that walks can be calm and fun. Polo is looking for adopters who can provide structure, patience, and lots of time to decompress. Polo is waiting for you! Come meet your new best friend! Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. Story
BRAD is a nervous boy who has been settling in with his foster, decompressing, and showing himself to be an affectionate pup. OTHER PETS: Brad was unsure meeting dogs at the shelter and would likely do best as an only pet. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER Brad will do best with someone who has experience with positive reinforcement while helping a nervous dog gain confidence. Brad has some anxiety going through doors, and meeting new people, so a slow introduction to new stimuli and the world will be essential in helping him feel comfortable in a new home and environment. While he has been nervous going through doors, barriers should be used while he is still nervous so he doesn't accidentally become startled and find himself lost. [Some Experience] KIDS: Brad bonds closely with his people as he becomes more relaxed. He is very affectionate and social, but young children may be frightening to him. He would be a best fit for teens and older humans that would be able to recognize when he needs space, and when he requests interactions. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Brad enjoys playing in the foster's fenced yard, and so far is going on short walks as he builds confidence and takes in his surroundings. He is a combination of playful and affectionate, and will benefit from regular exercise, and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games to help meet his needs. Mental stimulation is incredibly important for all dogs, and can help worried dogs cope with the world. Because he is nervous, a leash or fence will be necessary for all outings. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Brad bond with his new owner as well as help him learn new skills and tricks. Positive reinforcement, and counterconditioning will help him create happy associations with things he finds scary. Helping Brad continue to blossom will mean letting him learn about new things at his own pace without being forced. GROOMING: Occasional brushing will help keep Brad's coat clean. Story
Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded.OTHER PETS: Nena is a little nervous meeting other dogs, is calm with smaller dogs, and gives appropriate feedback when she becomes uncomfortable with an interaction. She would do well with another laid back dog and she would also do well as an only pet. Nena should meet any dogs she would be living with prior to adoption.[Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone with experience with positive reinforcement, and scared or shut down dogs would be ideal; someone with the commitment and patience to support Nena as she transitions to her new life and the willingness to learn how to do so would be a good fit. [Some Experience] KIDS: Nena allows handling but is still uncomfortable with, she has not shown signs of resource guarding during her time at the shelter. High pitched noises, flailing hands, and sudden movements can easily startle timid dogs like Nena. Nena's best fit would be in a quiet home or in a home that had a quiet safe place for her to call her own, with humans who were able to help her feel safe by letting her set the pace of their interactions. Nena should meet ALL humans she would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Nena is still largly shut down at the shelter but is coming out of her shell and exploring her environment as she feels more comfortable with staff and volunteers. She walks with a mostly loose leash and solicits more attention from those she has walked with, Nena would do well with daily walks. She may have more energy as she gets comfortable in her new home; a combination of regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles, games, and toys, will help meet her needs.[Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Nena bond with her new owner, build confidence, and learn skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement will help her build confidence while enjoying time with her guardian. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Nena's coat clean and matt-free and help control shedding. If matting were to occur a professional groomer could assist in getting Nena comfortable again. [Routine Brushing / Professional Grooming] December 11, 2025, 10:22 am
