Story
Hi. My name is Pollo. Yes… like chicken. I don’t really know how that happened either, but here we are. I’m actually a very large German Shepherd, which makes the name even funnier if you think about it.When you first meet me, I might take a moment to size things up. I’m a young guy and the world is full of very suspicious things, like statues that appear out of nowhere and other dogs minding their own business across the street. Sometimes I like to announce my feelings about these discoveries loudly. It’s not personal, I just get a little overwhelmed and my mouth turns on before my brain finishes processing the situation. Once I realize everything is fine though, I bounce right back and carry on like nothing happened.With people I warm up pretty quickly, especially if you come equipped with attention or really good snacks. I enjoy being petted and hanging out with my humans, and once I decide you’re my friend I greet you with enthusiasm and a whole lot of wiggles. I’m still young and full of energy, so sometimes that excitement comes out in big jumps, bouncy movements, and the general chaos you might expect from a very large shepherd who hasn’t quite figured out his own size yet.Other dogs are interesting to me. I get very excited when I see them and sometimes I don’t quite know what to do with all those feelings at first. Once introductions happen, I tend to loosen up and get wiggly and playful. My ideal dog friend would be someone patient and tolerant who doesn’t mind a slightly over-the-top greeting while I figure out how to channel my enthusiasm in a more polite way.I’m a smart boy and I already know a few things, but like most young shepherds I still have a lot to learn. I enjoy working for attention and tasty rewards, and I respond well when people give me guidance. I’m also the kind of dog who appreciates having things to do so my busy brain doesn’t start inventing its own activities. Due to my big feelings, I cannot live in an apartment or with small animals though. Sorry!There is one thing I feel very strongly about though, and that is my feet. They are private. Very private. If you approach them with nail clippers I will simply remove the clippers from the situation because clearly they do not belong there. With patience, training, and the right people helping me learn that paw handling isn’t the end of the world, I’m sure I can get better about it over time.What I really need is a home that unders
