Story
Hi, I’m Atticus—professional explorer, part-time detective of interesting smells, and full-time good boy looking for a fresh start. I came to the shelter through no fault of my own (life happens, I get it), and now I’m ready to find a home where I can stretch my legs, follow my nose, and maybe sneak a treat or two along the way.On walks, I like to keep things interesting. Sometimes I stroll politely, and other times I have places to be and will put a bit of muscle into it. I’m working on that, though, and I respond well to patient guidance and positive reinforcement. Give me time, consistency, and a comfy harness, and I’ll get the hang of it.I’m a smart guy who knows “sit” and will happily take treats—enthusiastically, so watch your fingers or toss them my way (I`m pretty good at catching them!). I love toys and will bounce around like a goof when I’m excited, happily chasing and trading them. I’m not overly clingy with affection, but I enjoy being near my people and taking in the world with them.I can be a bit of a loud announcer when new people or dogs show up, but it’s mostly just my way of saying, “Hey! What’s going on over there?” Once I’ve had a moment to check things out, I warm up and show my friendly side. I’ve met other dogs and tend to be playful, respectful, and pretty tolerant—even if they’re a bit unsure. With proper introductions, I’d likely enjoy having some dog pals. I’ve also lived with cats before and with proper introductions to dog savvy cats, I could likely live with them again. Now, let’s talk about my one quirk: my feet are off-limits. I’m sensitive about them and will let you know if I’m uncomfortable, so I’m looking for someone who understands that and is willing to work on gentle, cooperative care over time. In the meantime, we can get creative with nail care—teamwork makes the dream work.I’d do best in a home with a yard to explore and people who can keep up with my curious, active nature. I can be vocal sometimes so apartment living is not my thing. Older, dog-savvy kids would be a better match for me since I can get a little jumpy when I’m excited. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick who will keep you moving, make you laugh, and occasionally remind you that squirrels are very serious business, I might just be your guy.
