Story
** Current Location: in a foster home in South Korea ** • Rescue Story : Meet Dong-yeop👋 Dong-yeop was wandering in the mountain and the neighborhood. He followed other dogs walking around. Some residents filed many complaints to fire stations, police stations and animal rescue organizations, but they all failed to rescue him, raising vigilance. In the meantime, He often appeared in front of the house of a resident and ate meat she was feeding him. Some residents who were interested in Dong-yeop's rescue in the neighborhood decided to work together to rescue the dog, set up a fence in front of the house, and succeeded in rescuing Dong-yeop who came in to eat. Since then, Dong-yeop has been living in a temporary foster home for months, where he had good care and love and learned lots of tricks. He has turned into an amazing dog who loves walking and playing with toys! He is now more than ready to find his own forever home! • Personality: Shy, Smart, Curious • Affinity with -Cats: He tends to chase street cats but is not very interested in indoor family cats. -Dogs: Great with other dogs. He also relies on the resident dog in his foster home. -Adults/Kids: Shy around new faces / not much interest in kids • Shedding: 5-6 (1-10 scale) • Food Allergies/Picky Eater: No food allergies. While he loves meat very much, he doesn't eat vegetables or fruits. • Walking Manners: Still in training but improved a lot on leash walking! Now he's excited to go out for walks. • Housetrained: Fully-housebroken, using the bathroom only outside. • Baths: Not a fan! • Separation Anxiety: None, thanks to the other dog in the house. • Bark or Howl: Not really... except when he greets his foster at home out of joy. • Likes & Dislikes: He likes other dogs and tug-of-war! He loves beef and he likes to get pets! / He's not a fan of being chased or carried by people. He seems to get better as times go by though.

Story
❗Current location: in a private shelter in South Korea❗ Meet Philip 👋 This adorable pup was found wandering the streets of Paju, South Korea, in January 2022 when he was just 2 months old. He and his siblings were sent to a high-kill city pound, where they faced an uncertain fate. Thankfully, HDS Rescue stepped in and brought them to safety at a private shelter. Ever since then, Philip has been waiting for his chance to experience the warmth of a loving home. He’s ready to thrive and can’t wait to meet his forever family! • Personality: Gentle, Calm, Friendly Philip is as easygoing as they come! He’s friendly with new faces, including men and children, and adapts quickly to new environments. He’s a sweet, social pup who will melt your heart. Calm and gentle, he’s not one to bark unnecessarily. • Affinity with - Dogs: Great with other dogs - Cats: Not tested with cats - Adults/Kids: Gentle and calm when saying hello to children on walks • Walking Manners: Philip is a leash pro—he’s gentle and follows his handler’s lead beautifully. • Separation Anxiety: None. • Housetrained: He’ll need some potty training in a new environment, but with regular walks, he’s very likely to prefer doing his business outside. • Bathing/Brushing: Not tested but he would tolerate them well • Barks/Howls: No • Car Sickness: On his first car ride, he did great! No drooling or signs of stress, and he’ll only get better with more experience. • Appetite/Food Allergies: No allergies. • Shedding level (1~10): 6-7 • Likes/Dislikes: Philip loves treatos and enjoys greeting humans for pets and attention.

Story
Meet Butters! He is a sweet Shiba Inu/Miniature Poodle mix puppy (a littlemover a year old) who needs to be re-homed due to his family going through financial hardship due to a health diagnosis. Sadly, they unable to afford to care for him or give him the time & attention he deserves. He is an energetic little guy who does well with his daily walks and getting a lot of exercise. He is crate trained, house trained, and walks well on a leash. He has been in a house with 2 young kids and does great with them. He also does well with other dogs. He is up to date on shots and neutered. We are hoping to find him a home with someone who can give him plenty of attention and take him out on daily walks, as this is when he is at his happiest. He is around 30 lbs and not expected to get much bigger, maybe just fill out a bit. Family will provide his crate, ecollar for training, harness/leash and some toys.

Story
Meet Bambi! 🦌 At 4 years old, she’s seen a lot in her young life traveling the world. Enough to give her a healthy fear of… well everything pretty much 😔 She’s a Korean Village Dog according to her DNA test, probably originally a semi-feral stray traumatized by being plucked off the streets and put in a shelter first in Korea, and then being flown to NJ by a now defunct rescue. This scared little girl was adopted out as a nice little family pet without warnings of how fearful she was and how hard the adjustment would be. Though she came a long way and once she’s comfortable her little tail is always wagging and she dances and follows you around the house, but will always get more nervous in new situations and need to acclimate on her terms. She has a lot of really good qualities- she is a quiet demure dog, clean and keeps to herself but will come over for cuddles on the couch. She walks well on a leash, was housebroken in her previous home, is smart and a thinker. And of course those big doe eyes and adorable foxy little face don’t hurt. She’s not an aggressive dog, just complete fear and panic. She screams and pees on herself in pure terror being picked up, screams louder and pees more having her feet touched, and nail trims are not possible without some heavy duty sleepy meds (but lots of walks on pavement will wear them down enough that hopefully she will continue not to need them). She will come over wagging her tail and asking for attention and loves to cuddle on the couch and on your lap, but she has to be allowed to approach you and tries to dart if people go toward her. Her personality is very cat-like and similar to a tinier Shiba Inu and she needs a quiet patient home that understands her and will continue to help her navigate this terrifying world. She’s scared and avoidant of other dogs at this point so would probably be best as an only pet though she might be able to learn to get along with a calm disinterested dog once she realizes they aren’t threat. If you would like to really make a difference in the life of a shy but sweet little dog and are willing to open your home to our dear little deer Bambi, email njwoof@cs.com to meet her in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Meet Spike – Do not apply if not a experience dog owner! If the ad is still up he is still available. Aki is a sweet, affectionate, and playful dog who gets along well with people, dogs, and children. He’s moderately active and would thrive in a home with a fenced yard—ideally outside the city, and possibly with another dog or young kids. He’s been with us since he was 8 weeks old and is super well-trained. He is potty trained and listen to all commands if you have a treat. Aki is truly a dream dog. We’re heartbroken to rehome him, but are doing so on our doctor’s advice to keep him separated from our young son for health reasons. Requirements: Aki needs a committed, experienced dog family he really is a dream dog loves everyone and everything. Please reach out for a meeting.
