Story
Dexter is a fluffy ball of love and affection. He is very undemanding and just wants the attention and adoration he so richly deserves. Dexter would love a home with a fenced in yard, so he can wander at his own pace. He doesn't need a lot of exercise or playtime, but he enjoys having quality time with his humans. He likes going for walks and playing with small, soft toys. He is hoping to have another dog in his new home, for gentle companionship. He would prefer a human who enjoys snuggling and is home most of the time, so Dexter can keep an eye on him. Dexter is housetrained, although it is helpful to have some pee pads available, in case he wants to potty when no one is available. He came in very thin, and we have been working hard to get him up to a proper weight. He enjoys eating soft food. Due to some stomach issues, he is currently on a prescription food. His hearing is quite limited, so the best way to communicate with him is pets and treats. Dexter is at his cutest when he is wriggling on his back on the carpet. He also has adorable little barks and growling sounds. Dexter is approx 13 years old and 12 lbs. Fostered in Germantown, MD please apply at mirishaven.org

Meet Jim, aka Jimothy - the Shih Tzu sensation! Jim’s story didn’t start with sunshine and rainbows. He came from a home so bad he had to be seized by animal control, but this brave little guy hasn’t looked back since. Despite all the chaos and trauma he’s endured, Jim is pure hope wrapped in fluff. You can just feel that he wants to love and be loved. And love, he does! Jim arrived full of joy, ready to party and start his new life. From transport to volunteers to his foster family, everyone fell for him immediately (the rumors are true ~ Jim’s an absolute babe). He loves: - Taking walks (he has stamina and is ready to help you get your steps in!) - Exploring the yard - Making new friends - Playing with toys - Snuggling on the couch - Keeping the world safe from squirrels - Being told he's the overall best boy (because he is) Jim's got moves, he’s got heart, and he’s working on building an epic toy collection. A social butterfly who makes friends with every dog and human he meets, he would love a home with another canine sibling to pal around with. Story
Furby is a fun, charming, fuzzy doggo. He has been enjoying his time in a foster home, but is hoping to find a home for the holidays. He has lots of opinions. So far, here's what he's let his foster know about his likes and dislikes: Furby loves snacks (preferably delivered with reverence), gentle strolls (exercise but make it elegant), lap time (where he absorbs your secrets), scritches, and plush beds (plural… he has declared several thrones already). Furby does not enjoy snow or rain. He does not love being required to wear clothes, although he does look super handsome in a preppy sweater. Furby also does not seem to love car rides (perhaps because they mostly involve the V E T); he fares best if he’s in the back seat with a human companion. Furby arrived with cataracts, glaucoma, and ulcers on his eyes. Following several weeks of unsuccessful treatment, it was determined that Furby would fare better without his peepers (which weren't doing their job anyway). He is adjusting very well and does not let his blindness stop him from anything. He walks with confidence and can handle a couple of small steps, as well as curbs. If there are multiple or steep steps, he’s happy to be carried up and down them instead. He is a great eater and a champion lap sitter. Furby gets along well with other dogs, big or small, and cats. He loves people and is very curious about the world. He enjoys plenty of grass-sniffing time and checking out every inch of the house for possible stray crumbs. He is housetrained, although if he isn’t taken out after a polite request, he may engage in some self-help. He does fine left home alone for reasonable periods of time and is always excited when someone comes to take him out for a potty break. Overall, he is a charming, friendly boy. Even the things he doesn’t like (such as clothes) he will tolerate, especially if bribed with a treat or two. He has plenty to say about the world and can’t wait to share it with you.
