Meet Kobe! After 12 years with the only family he’s ever known, this 13-year-old Shih Poo found himself surrendered to the shelter when his people could no longer afford his care. He arrived confused, heartbroken, and trying to understand how his whole world could change so suddenly. Kobe is a gentle, well-loved soul. He’s reported to have done beautifully with small children, enjoyed time with other dogs at the park, and loved being part of his community. Even now, in the middle of upheaval, his sweetness and social spirit still shine through. He does need a dental for a painful, yucky mouth ~ but overall, he appears to be in good shape. He’s agile, playful, and clearly still enjoying life. He was a little unsure about being picked up and during his bath, but he handled it with quiet tolerance and only the tiniest grumbles. Kobe, you’ve lost so much, but you haven’t lost your future. We’ve got you now. A soft place to land. A gentle next chapter. And all the love you deserve as you begin again. Squash is sweet, gentle, and curious, with a heart full of love for the people he trusts. Once he's comfortable with you, he loves to be held, stay near his person, and show you just how affectionate he can be. Squash has the energy you'd expect from a young puppy. He's extremely energetic and requires frequent activity, mental stimulation, and structured outlets to keep him happy and balanced. He loves to chew on his toys and toy bones, and a fenced yard would be wonderful for letting him run and burn off that puppy energy, though it's not a requirement. Here's what makes Squash special and what he needs: he's a little shy and nervous until he feels comfortable. New sounds, people, and experiences can feel scary to this tiny guy, and he needs a patient family who will support him as he learns that the world isn't meant to be frightening. He's working on meeting new people and can be wary at first, but he's always friendly. He just needs time and gentle encouragement. Squash is great at meeting new dogs and is very responsive to praise and food motivation with those he's comfortable with. Because of his nervousness and the fact that he's still learning about the world, a home without younger kids may be best. We're not sure how he'd react to children sharing his toys or moving unpredictably around him. This sweet boy needs someone who understands that beneath his concerns is a gentle soul who just wants to feel safe and loved. With patience, consistency, and compassion, Squash will blossom into the confident, affectionate companion he's meant to be. If you have the time and heart to help this tiny treasure find his courage, Squash is ready to trust you with his whole heart.

I'm searching for... * someone who won't leave me home alone for more than 4 hrs, at least not until I am older. The older I am the more I can stay home alone. I just don't want you to get mad at me if I have accidents or chew things I'm not supposed to when you leave me for too long. I'm a puppy, so I get bored quick and when I'm bored I could get in trouble. * I am looking for my forever home, not my for right now home. So as I get bigger I need someone to teach me how to be the best dog I can be. I am young and still learning.
