Story
Bella is a sweet, loyal Shih Tzu girl looking for a very special forever home. At about 10 years young, this beautiful lady is full of love and companionship, and she dreams of being someone’s devoted sidekick. Bella thrives on being close to her person—she’ll happily follow you from room to room, ride along on car trips, and walk nicely by your side on a leash. At home, she’s a perfect little lady. She does not require a crate and will quietly wait for you by the door until you return. 💖 Bella is currently on a healthy weight-loss journey and is doing great! She weighs about 16 pounds. She does require some simple daily care, including eye drops and a liver supplement, and she handles both like a champ. 💙 Special Medical Needs Bella was recently diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, so she is looking for a dedicated adopter willing to help her stay healthy and comfortable. Her care includes: Daily medication (approximately $250/month) A low-fat, low-sodium, high-protein diet to support her weight and organ health While Bella may need a little extra care, she will repay you with unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship every single day. 👑 Personality & Home Requirements Best as an only dog (she loves being queen of the castle!) Cat-friendly Quiet and easygoing (with a little adorable snoring 😴) Loves head rubs… kisses are optional 😉 Bella is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm-negative, and on monthly prevention. Her adoption donation is $200. Bella is currently in a foster home, and we are requesting an approved application prior to a meet and greet. 💕 Bella is searching for a big-hearted adopter who understands that sometimes the most special dogs need just a little extra—and give back so much more. Could that be you?

Story
Kenny is being fostered in VA.Kenny is NOT BLIND!Kenny arrived at rescue in June 2026 like a little spark — small, scruffy, and full of hope. Today, hes a joyful, wiggly, toy chewing, rope tugging, people loving pup who lights up his foster home. This 13 pound, one year old shih tzu (maybe with a dash of mystery mix) was found as a stray in Ohio. After the shelter suspected concerns about his vision, he traveled to Virginia to join the Blind Dog Rescue — and surprised everyone by seeing just fine! What he really needed was comfort, care, and a fresh start.Kenny settled in quickly with the resident dogs and is learning the art of polite play. Hes housetrained, crate trained, and sleeps quietly through the night. He trots beautifully on leash unless a squirrel dares to appear, in which case Kenny becomes a tiny, determined explorer. Hes a great car buddy, too.His favorite foods? Purina One with gravy for breakfast and dinner and then, for snacks, he enjoys peanut butter, tiny dog treats, and, his favorite: chicken jerky! Hes a shy eater at mealtime who waits for his humans to step away before he begins.Kenny has been thoroughly vetted: ear infections treated, Giardia resolved, skin improving (still a bit flaky), bloodwork and vision normal, teeth lovely. The vet staff adored him.His front legs are a bit bow-legged and he has congenital hip dysplasia with a left cruciate injury but, after a Librela injection, hes moving much more comfortably and with better stamina. During the first couple of weeks in his foster home, he sometimes favored his left leg but he has not been noted to do that anymore even before the first Librela injection he began to use both hind legs symmetrically. Hell need monthly Librela and an adopter willing to partner with their vet to address any mobility issues if they arise in the future. He can manage a few steps but should be carried on full staircases. And, when carried, his foster mother said he feels like a squishy teddy bear. And usually she gets a kiss from Kenny when he is in her arms.Kennys one big nope: cats. He becomes intensely focused on the foster homes cat and wants to chase, so he must be adopted into a cat free home. He hasnt lived with children and so should join adults or families with older kids.Kenny is still a puppy — bright, sweet, and ready to learn. He needs a home with structure, patience, and lots of love. If youre looking for a joyful little companion with a huge heart, Kenny is waiting for you.BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Allow us to introduce Grandpa Leo, a charming 12-year-old Shih Tzu with a heart as big as his personality. Life has given him a few bumps along the way — including the loss of one eye — but don’t let that fool you. This little gentleman still struts around with quiet confidence and plenty of love to give. Leo is a cautious little guy who takes his time getting to know new people and surroundings. Once he trusts you, though, you’ll see the sweetest side of him — the one that melts into his favorite bed for a long nap or enjoys gentle pets along his back. He’s happiest when life moves at a calm, steady pace with plenty of comfy blankets and cozy corners. True to his “grandpa” nickname, Leo likes attention on his terms and won’t hesitate to toddle over when he’s ready for some affection. He’s not a fan of having his face fussed with, but he enjoys soothing rubs and scratches along his body, especially after a quiet stroll or during a peaceful afternoon. Because Leo treasures tranquility, he’d do best in a home without children — somewhere serene where he can snooze, explore at his own pace, and soak up love in a stress-free environment. This wise little Shih Tzu has earned a life of comfort, care, and dignity. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow companion who will fill your days with soft snuggles, curious glances, and the occasional “grandpa grumble,” Grandpa Leo may just be the perfect match. Adopt Grandpa Leo — give this sweet senior the retirement home he deserves, full of naps, gentle love, and peaceful days. PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. We only adopt in Florida. All adoption fees go to help all the dogs in the rescue, some of which require extensive medical care. Thank you for caring for the greater good. Adoption fee is $200 and you can adopt me at www.polkadogz.org ##2662814##

Story
Meet Lilo: I'm looking for a loving new home for my 9-year-old dog named Lilo. This decision comes from wanting what's best for her. She has spent most of her life as an indoor dog and is a sweet companion who enjoys being around her people. She is not fully housed trained, so she'll need someone who has the patience and time to work with her and establish a routine. My work schedule has become increasingly demanding, and I no longer feel I can give her the attention, consistency, and care she deserves during her senior years. She deserves a home where someone has the time to love her, provide companionship, and help her enjoy this stage of her life. I'm looking for someone who understands that older dogs still have so much love to give. If you offer her a safe, patient, and caring home, I know she will reward you with loyalty and affection. Finding the right family is my priority, and I'll want to make sure she's going to a home where she'll be loved and cared for. Thank you
