Story
*** Bonded – Lexie and Codey are bonded and must be adopted together. Meet Lexie and Codey! Hi, we’re Lexie and Codey, lifelong companions who adore each other and are ready to bring our gentle, senior sweetness to a new family. We’re calm, affectionate, easygoing, and we’re hoping to find a home with room in the heart for two. Lexie: I’m a 12½yearold Shih Tzu girl who weighs 10 pounds. I’m an independent soul who enjoys quiet moments, cozy spots, and choosing affection when it feels just right. I may be small, but I’m steady, observant, and full of soft charm. Codey: I’m a 13½yearold Maltese blend boy who weighs 8 pounds. I’m young at heart, love staying close to my person, and bring a warm, cheerful presence wherever I go. I’m devoted, cuddly, and always ready to join in on whatever my human is doing. Favorite Things  Lexie: Lexie enjoys peaceful moments and likes having her own little nook to unwind in. She’s independent and chooses affection on her terms, occasionally settling beside her person when she feels social. Toys aren’t her priority, but she loves mealtime and finishes every bowl with enthusiasm. During storms or fireworks she appreciates being close, showing her sweetest, most tender side. Codey: Codey loves staying near his person and happily shadows them throughout the day. He enjoys curling up on the couch, stretching out in bed, and following familiar routines. While toys don’t interest him much, he’s delighted by breakfast and dinner and cleans his bowl with gusto. He naps often but perks up the moment his human moves, eager to join in. Training and Manners Lexie and Codey are both housetrained when given regular outdoor breaks and have lovely manners. They walk politely on a leash and enjoy calm car rides, making outings simple and pleasant.  Lexie: Lexie settles comfortably in her dog bed at night and enjoys a calm, predictable routine. She allows being picked up with gentle caution and moves through her day with a soft, steady ease that makes her feel right at home. Codey: Codey sleeps soundly either in his bed or curled up beside his person and quickly adapts to the rhythm of his home. Once he feels settled, he lets his human know when he needs to go outside, adding a thoughtful, communicative touch to his easygoing nature. Health and Care  Lexie and Codey are both microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will need monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives, just like any other dog. Lexie: Lexie is spayed and despite having no teeth, eats beautifully and finishes her meals with enthusiasm. Monthly grooming keeps her comfortable, and she handles it with patient cooperation. Codey: Codey is neutered and also enjoys soft food, eating well and maintaining a healthy appetite. His grooming routine is easy, and he stays relaxed throughout baths and trims. Other Animals: Lexie and Codey are comfortable with dogs of all sizes and greet them with gentle curiosity. Their calm nature makes them easy companions for friendly canine households. Cats aren’t the right match for their interest level, but they blend beautifully into homes with respectful dogs. Children: Both dogs have experience with children of all ages and handle interactions with patience and softness. Their steady, easygoing personalities make them wonderful companions for families who teach kids to be kind to senior pups. Ideal Home: Lexie and Codey would thrive in a quiet, loving home where their people are around often. They enjoy calm environments, predictable routines, and spaces where they can rest comfortably. Apartment or condo living suits them well as long as they receive regular outdoor breaks and companionship. They balance independence with affection and appreciate having their humans close throughout the day. Overall: Lexie and Codey are a bonded pair of gentle, loyal seniors who bring warmth, sweetness, and peaceful companionship wherever they go. They complement each other beautifully — one calm and observant, the other social and devoted — and together they offer a comforting, heartwarming presence. They’re ready to share their golden years with a family who will cherish their soft spirits and give them the loving home they deserve. Are you the one for this pair? If so, visit www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org to fill out an adoption application. If it seems like it could be a good match, their foster family will reach out with more information. Their adoption donation is $250 for BOTH PUPS. ##2709875##

Story
Kenny is being fostered in VA.Kenny is NOT BLIND!Kenny is a friendly, lively, happy pup! Here is his story!Kenny, a 13-pound, one-year-old shih tzu (perhaps a mix), was a stray in Ohio and landed in a shelter in rough shape. The shelter reached out to the Blind Dog Rescue as they suspected a vision issue, and he came to Virginia to be fostered in late June 2026.Kenny is an alert, aware dog and he settled in quickly at his foster home where there are three other dogs. He enjoys other dogs, and is learning to be respectful when they are not interested in playing with him. He likes to tug on a rope with his foster dad and will also settle himself on the floor chewing on various toys. He has a gentle chew when he plays and has not torn apart a single toy!Kenny is housetrained (no accidents in the house yet!) and is crate trained. Sometimes when he is settling down in his indoor pen at night, he may bark for a very short while but then he falls asleep and is quiet all night, keeping his pen clean and dry. Kenny does pretty well on a leash until he sees a critter in the yard! Then he focuses in and may want to chase! :) He travels well in the car.Kenny likes eating Purina One with gravy and is not yet interested in other kinds of dog food. He also likes peanut butter, chicken jerky (he loves that!), and some small treats. He is a little hesitant when approaching his food bowl, and waits until his foster parents have moved away before he starts eating.Kenny has been to the vet several times since arriving at his foster home. He is a healthy weight. His skin was dry and flaky when he arrived but that has been steadily improving with a good diet. He had bilateral ear infections which were treated (he was not happy when the vet staff needed to clean his ears!) and now his ears are good! His bloodwork was checked, along with his urine and a fecal. Plus he was tested for heartworm disease. All testing results were good with no concerns except Kenny had Giardia which has been treated and his most recent fecal was negative. It was a surprise to find out Kenny can see well and, at this time, there are no health or vision issues with his eyes. And his teeth look great! The vet staff fell in love with Kenny.Kenny is an active pup who has a bit of an unusual gait. He has had x-rays and has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia (a congenital condition) and a left cruciate injury. He has had a Librela injection and has responded well. His gait looks more symmetrical and he has more stamina. Librela is to be given monthly. Anyone interested in adopting Kenny should speak with their vet about adopting a small dog with hip dysplasia and a left cruciate injury. We dont know Kennys history and we dont know what the future holds - and this is true for all dogs in rescue.Kenny can go up and down a few steps but should be carried up and down a full flight of steps. He has been to the groomer and did very well although was sensitive around his left leg. There is a cat at the foster home (a semi-feral cat who spends most of her time outside) and Kenny is VERY interested in the cat. When he sees the cat, he becomes hyper-focused and wants to chase her. Although Kenny is a friendly dog with people and gets along with the other dogs in the foster home, it is unknown how he would react if allowed to have close interaction with a cat. Therefore, Kenny should be adopted in a home with no cats.Kenny has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted in a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be.Kenny has a long, wonderful life ahead of him. He is still a puppy so needs an adopter who understands puppies are still learning and that they need consistency, routine, rules, and lots of love. If you think you can provide the home Kenny deserves, fill out an application today!BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
