Story
Meet Finn! He can be nervous around new people and may need extra time and space to adjust in his new home. Finn is crate trained and is used to being kenneled during work hours. Finn is mostly housetrained but will have an occasional accident. Keeping him on a consistent schedule will help him reach success! He has been protective of his person in the past and occasionally nipped at men or other strangers who don't respect his body language. It's important his new home is willing to work with him using positive reinforcement and understanding his communication when he is uncomfortable in order to prevent any bites. Finn has lived with children in his previous home and has been friendly with some and avoidant of others. He would do best in a home without children or at least be with older kids who can understand his boundaries. Finn has met other dogs and cats and did well with them. He even met chickens and did well! All introductions should be slow and proper when bringing home new animals. Ask staff for tips! He loves car rides, going on walks, and playing with squeaky toys! Finn is used to being groomed regularly and does great! He has displayed some resource guarding tendencies with food and toys; it's important that his adopter learns his boundaries and prevents opportunities for him to guard. For example, feeding him in his kennel or crate will give him the sense of safety without interruption. Teaching him a "leave-it" or "drop-it" command with toys will help avoid situations where his person is attempting to take anything out of his mouth. Come meet Finn today! *Adoption holds may be placed on available animals in person or by calling (320) 252-0896. An adoption hold reserves available animals for one day after the animal is ready to be adopted. More than one adoption hold may be placed on an available animal and will be honored in the order they were received. Adoption holds are $25 plus tax, are non-refundable, non-transferable and not applied toward the adoption fee. **Minnesota sales tax and an administrative fee ($20 for cats/dogs and $10 for small animals) will be applied to all adoptions. Donations and adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinating, deworming, any medical procedures, and general care of all shelter animals. Story
Hi, I’m Penelope! A gentle, affectionate girl with a big heart, a chill personality, and wonderful manners. A fun fact about me is that I understand commands in both English and Spanish! I also love a good routine. I know when it’s mealtime and I go right to my crate to wait because I know the drill! I like to do things right and I feel confident when I know what to expect. I’m crate trained and comfortable with it. I happily go in on command, sleep there through the night, and even enjoy my meals in my crate. I get along beautifully with kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes. I’m friendly, polite, and adaptable, and I’ve adjusted very well to home life. Whether it’s going for a walk, relaxing by your side, or curling up for cuddle time, I’m happy just being with my people. I would love to be the one who greets you at the door, curls up beside you, and makes every day feel a little sweeter. Penelope is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 7/11/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page to learn more. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.
