He was adopted at 8-weeks-old but recently returned back to the Rescue Network. Romeo is a very active small dog and loves to play and chew. He will snuggle in with you for a nap. He is house-trained and has been working on kennel-training. At night with the kennel in the bedroom, he has been quieting down and resting. He keeps his kennel clean during the day while his foster is at work. Meet Sir!  Don’t let the fancy name fool you - Sir is a fun-loving, easygoing 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix who is ready to find his forever home! Sir was found roaming alone near an apartment building in the Twin Cities. His original owner did not claim him so he made his way to No Dog Left Behind for a new start in life. First things first, Sir got a much needed groom and is feeling quite dapper! Sir is friendly, well-mannered, and already has some great skills under his belt. He’s mostly potty trained, kennel trained, walks great on leash, and rides well in the car. Sir gets along well with other dogs and people of all ages. As with most small dogs, Sir does vocalize some when he sees interesting things outside or hears an odd noise. Sir loves his toys. He's very excited to bring his favorite stuffy, Lamby, to his forever home. He loves playing a good game of fetch or spending time outside. Initially, Sir was more of a “I’ll lay somewhat near you” kind of guy but, as he's gotten more comfortable in his foster home, he loves to stand on your lap/chest for side scritches or curl up near your lap. Toby is a 10 pound, 10-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu mix with a sweet and affectionate personality. He is easy-going and full of love and is looking for his furever home. The thing he loves most is a cuddly blanket on a warm lap. Toby would do best in a house with lots of love and cuddles. He's always wanting to be near his family and loves to stay warm and close. Toby wasn’t initially interested in playing with squeaky balls and toys, though he was intrigued by them when the foster family dog played. It took some time for him to get comfortable in his foster home, but he’s recently started to play a bit with soft toys and gets along well with the small resident dog. Toby will continue to come out of his shell as he gains confidence and trust in his home. What Toby really enjoys is an outdoor adventure, wandering around his foster family’s fenced in yard. He's so fun to watch with his adorable prance. His greatest dream is to catch that squirrel in the backyard, but they're just too dang fast for this little guy. Toby has tried to be a bit of an escape artist so he should be kept on a leash if his yard is not securely fenced in. Speaking of leashes, Toby really enjoys his daily walks with his foster family. He walks very politely on the leash and loves sniffing all the neighborhood smells. Toby’s a great eater and does eat dry food but he prefers food that is softened with water or chicken broth. Toby is a sweet boy that wants to find that perfect home. Here are the requirements for Toby’s new family: - Toby needs a home where people are around most of the day since he can get anxious when left alone. - A calm home with gentle and patient humans would be great for Toby. Toby has a mild collapsing trachea and can occasionally have episodes of coughing when he gets very anxious. Keeping him calm and relaxed helps minimize the episodes. Day to day, Toby does great and has had very few coughing episodes. - Because Toby needs to be in a calm environment, an adults only home would be best. However, a family with children over the age of ten will be considered if they have had experience in gently and respectfully interacting with a small dog. - Toby must wear a harness any time a leash is used. With his collapsing trachea, a harness will avoid further injury to his trachea. Toby always wears a loose collar around the house for his name tag, but whenever a leash is used it’s attached to his harness. - Toby is house trained, but his foster family is still learning his signal to go outside. Right now, he gets taken out every few hours, and aside from a couple of accidents in the house when he first arrived, he’s done all his business outside. Toby needs a family that’s able to bring him outside every few hours. - Toby loves to be near his humans so a family that allows him to sleep in bed at night would be preferred. He sleeps on a soft blanket at the foot of the bed between his foster parents. He loves to come up and get belly rubs and cuddles before going to sleep and in the morning when he wakes up - An ideal home for Toby would likely include another small dog. He gets along well with his foster family’s shih tzu and seems to have gained some confidence with another dog in the house to show him the ropes. Toby being a solo dog is not a dealbreaker, however. - Interested adopters should live within a 40 minute drive from downtown Minneapolis and commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand that there are quite a few requirements for Toby’s new family, but Toby is totally worth it, and he is sure to bring lots of love to the perfect home. He's an expert cuddler and can't wait to share all his love with you. Toby will be neutered in early October and also have a full dental, including some extractions. This adorable Shih Tzu/Dachshund mix is as sweet as they come and has a quiet, loving nature that makes her easy to adore. One of the cutest things about Coco is the way she walks—she has a little bunny-hop style that is guaranteed to make you smile. Coco is happiest simply being near her people. She loves companionship, whether it’s from humans or other dogs, and is content to quietly follow you from room to room throughout the day. Garth knows the commands “come” and “go potty!” Although, listening and following through are still a work in progress. He’s a curious little guy who loves going on walks and sniffing everything he can find. When he encounters something he isn’t quite sure about, he may jump and bark at it until he realizes there’s nothing to worry about. Garth enjoys playing independently and loves chewing on his toys and bones. He also likes to know where his people are and prefers to be able to see you and stay nearby. He’ll eat just about anything he can find—bunny poop, grass, acorns… you name it! He’s such a little vacuum cleaner, so his foster has to keep a close eye on him! He does well in his crate, but if he hears you nearby,  he may start barking to let you know he’d like to come out. The good news is that he usually settles down pretty quickly. We’ve also learned that Garth benefits from designated quiet time. He’s still learning how to fully settle himself, but with some structure and downtime, he does very well. This little guy is sweet, silly, curious, and absolutely full of personality. Matilda is a sweet little girl looking for a family that will love having a tiny shadow by their side. She may be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe and comfortable, you’ll have a loyal best friend for life. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch, doing chores around the house, gardening in the backyard, or just going about your day, Matilda wants to be right there with you. She loves being involved in everything you do and is happiest when she’s close to her person. Matilda is quite the chatterbox! If you talk to her, she’ll happily “talk” right back.
