For Adoption: Uba! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. I'd like to introduce this happy little Shih Tzu, Uba! Uba's tail has been wagging since joining us. Uba is a 15 pound bundle of happiness who is mostly white in colour with some light brown colouring in her ears and body. Uba is a 2.5 year old Shih Tzu who came from a commercial breeding situation. Uba has craved human interaction since arriving despite being used as a means of profit and treated unkindly in her past. Uba is still learning to be a dog and learning to live in a home with comforts, but also learning to live in a neighbourhood with different noises. Uba is a very happy dog who is working on many new skills. Uba is still working on her crate training. She was doing well and then had some regression with this skill because of having to wear her cone after her eye surgery. We continue to rebuild her crate training, but Uba becomes very loud and expressive about how much she does not want to be in her. For this reason Uba would not do well in an apartment or attached housing environment. Uba would also do better in a home where someone is home most of the time so she does not need to spend long hours in her crate. Uba is startled by loud trucks and cars on our walks. Uba loves walking so a quieter neighbourhood would be nice for her. Uba loves being outside. A secure fenced yard where Uba can sit outside with her humans and enjoy the fresh air would bring her joy. Even on the coldest days of this winter Uba wanted to just be outside. Uba does well with her leash walking. She really just follows behind you. The only pulling that happens is when she stops to do her business or if she finds something really good to smell. Uba likes to go for at least one longer walk, about and hour, and then 2-3 short 10 minute walks a day. Uba is still learning how to explore while she is out walking and is becoming more confident about smelling things. Uba does not go down stairs yet. She sometimes stumbles with just one step down off the deck because she jumps with too much jest. We will continue to work on stairs now that her cone is off but for now she needs to be carried down stairs so will need someone who is able to do that. Uba is full of personality. Her tail is always wagging. Uba is the best snuggle dog. She is so happy to sit on the couch and snuggle with her human. Uba is also a great walking buddy. She does not pull on leash and she is so happy to go for a walk of any length. Uba's strut is so uniquely Uba. You can't help but smile when you are watching Uba walk as she is just so happy and you can see it in her strut. Uba does very well in the car when she has the back seat. Uba did not enjoy being in the crate in the car but if she simply has a seat belt on she is very happy and will just settle on the seat. Uba is very happy to be in the car because she knows it leads to fun adventures. Uba does need to be lifted into the car as she is too small to jump. Uba eats very well. We are feeding Uba in her crate to help with the crate training. Uba is quite entertaining to watch eat as she has to chew each piece of kibble individually and she always looks so happy as she is chewing. Each kibble is the best kibble she has ever eaten and her head is held up as she chews. Uba is doing well with her house training. We have only had a few accidents when her schedule gets messed up and humans miss her cues for needing to go outside. Uba will need to be groomed regularly. Her fur covers her eyes if not trimmed. Uba does not love being groomed around her face so someone with experience will be required. Uba is happy to let you brush her body and lets you touch her paws with ease. Uba would like to be the only dog in the house. Uba wants all of her human's attention. Uba currently lives with another large dog and is fine with her, but it was a very slow introduction. Uba has not tried to chase any wild life on our walks. Uba has not been around cats. Uba needs to be in a home with adults. No children. Uba would likely do better with someone who has experience with dogs, not a first time dog owner. When Uba gets really excited she starts to get a bit nippy. Uba is still learning what to do with all of her emotions and needs a home with calm adults to help her be her best self. Uba does not bite to hurt, she just has lots of emotion and doesn't know what to do with it. Uba will need training classes. This will help Uba with her socialization. Uba is very smart and will pick up on training very well. Uba is still a puppy herself and has lots of learning in her future. Uba has been to the vet and is up to date with all her shots. Uba had her spay and had to have cherry eye surgery. Uba does well at the vet and lets them handle her with no concerns. She does become a squirm-er when they are trying to do things with her eyes but a few extra hands and a minute to let her calm down and she is fine. Uba is such an amazing and happy dog. She will make the best companion for her forever person. Uba is always happy and wants nothing more than to be with her people. An adult home, where someone is home most of the time, with a detached house and fenced in yard would be ideal for Uba. If you want a dog that is happy to snuggle on the couch with you for hours and is equally happy to go on a nice walk with you, then Uba is your girl. Story
Meet Bear, a sweet 5–6 year old Shih Tzu with a heart as big as his name 🐻 Bear is a 25-pound bundle of love who is ready to find his forever home. This charming little guy is extremely friendly and truly enjoys being around people. He greets everyone like an old friend and is wonderful with kids, making him a fantastic family companion. Bear gets along beautifully with other dogs and absolutely loves trips to the dog park. He also co-exists peacefully with cats. Car rides? One of his favorite things! He hops right in and is ready for the next adventure. On leash, he walks pretty well and enjoys getting out to explore. At home, Bear is a dream. He is 100% house trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and rarely barks. He has a calm, easygoing nature and settles in nicely after playtime. As a Shih Tzu, he is low-shedding, which is a bonus for those looking for a low-shed companion. Bear does have a cataract in one eye, but his vision in the other eye is good and he navigates his world just fine. He also has luxating patellas in his front legs; at this time they do not require intervention and he remains comfortable and active. Bear is the perfect mix of playful and laid-back — a loyal little shadow who will happily join you for outings or curl up beside you at the end of the day. He’s simply looking for a loving home to call his own. Could that be with you? 🏡💛 #adoptdontshop #RescueDogsRock #rescueismyfavoritebreed

Story
Panda is 13 year old, 14 pound Shih tzu who came into our rescue when her owner passed away. Panda is a very sweet, calm girl who enjoys her walks, rides well in the car and loves to eat.  She can jump up on the couch but does not do the seven stairs up or down in her foster home. Panda is housetrained but will use a pee pad. She doesn’t seem to mind the snow but is not a fan of the rain or the very cold weather. Living with 3 other foster dogs Panda fits right in. She gets along with all the dogs and is very gentle when taking her treats.    We are still learning about Panda’s personality and how she adjusts to new situations.  So far it’s been an easy transition for her.   If you think Panda is the one for you, please fill in an application for our review.  January 28, 2026, 10:31 am
