Story
Libby is an almost 5 yr old mill survivor shih tzu who is living in a home with 2 other small dogs. She was very timid and nervous when she came to the rescue but is slowly coming out of her shell.  Playing with her foster siblings and her foster mom is her new thing. Most of the time Libby prefers to be on her own in her quiet corner but she has been venturing out to see what everyone else is doing and asking to be petted.  She loves to have her ears and butt scratched.   Libby has been vetted and is up to date.. She had pancreatitis when she first came, but with medication and a low fat diet she has made a full recovery.   Going for walks in the good weather is something Libby enjoys; she walks along beside you and does not pull on the leash.  She enjoys going for car rides and usually settles down quickly and goes to sleep.  Libby is still uncomfortable being picked up and held, but has gotten much better about it and with more time, will learn that she is safe and loved.   At night, Libby likes to start out in a crate with the door open, but will often move to a bed beside her foster mom.  In the morning, she will ask for her ears to be rubbed and scratched.  She is pee pad trained, but is going outside more often to do her business now.     A forever home with another small dog would be ideal for Libby and she definitely needs people who are going to be home much of the time to provide her with the care and love she deserves.  She has not been around cats or small children. She would most likely be fine with cats.April 19, 2024, 1:18 pm

Story
Fergus is a 7 year old Shitzu. He is gentle natured, timid boy who just wants so badly to be loved. Fergus was a breeding dog throughout his life so far and had little to no experience outside of a kennel when he arrived. He had lots to learn when moving into a home environment and has done quite well with it all so far. Fergus has continued to grow his confidence exploring his foster home. He is being fostered with two other small breed dogs and does quite well with them. He would be happy in a home with another calm and confident small breed companion to show him the ropes. He doesn’t show a prey drive and should be fine with cats. Fergus does get nervous with loud noises and fast movements so a quieter home without young kids may be more relaxing for him. Overall, Fergus is an easy dog to have around and will quietly come out of his crate to seek some couch time with his foster dad when he is relaxing while watching TV. He does seem to be more comfortable with men than woman but with patience he has let 1 or 2 of the ladies in the house handle him. He has learned his crate is a good place and is content to spend a few hours during the day inside his crate. He will seek out his crate when he needs some quiet time to himself. Fergus will need a patient person to help him keep growing. He is easily startled by sudden movements and noises quite often. Fergus’s leash skills have improved dramatically since being in foster and with continued time and consistency should continue to improve. He is a low energy dog who would enjoy some walks once he builds confidence but doesn’t need a huge amount of activity. Fergus’s house training is going well. He has only had a few accidents in the house, he does not let you know when needing outside ( it is more us knowing his schedule) but with some work hopefully he can learn to let his people know on his own. He enjoys spending time in the yard and having a secure fenced space is definitely a good idea for him. Fergus’s is great in the car and definitely would love to go on family trips to cottage or wherever he is allowed to travel. Fergus has been neutered , is UTD on vaccines. The ideal home for Fergus: Other small dogs, yes Cats, likely fine Kids - 14 and older children who are gentle and dog savvy. A quieter home without very young kids may be best. Secure fenced yard required, Fergus is not fully comfortable on a leash yet but is improving. A home that is patient and will give him the time he needs to adjust. He is good in the car and would enjoy trips with the family. He is being fostered in Mississauga, Ontario.
