Story
Romeo, Romeo, where art thou, Romeo? If you're searching for a handsome little guy to steal your heart, look no further! Romeo is a neutered male Shih Tzu with a sweet disposition to match his charming name. Romeo has a few health needs that require special care. He has allergies, which are managed with daily medication and a vegetarian diet. Since starting this routine, his skin has greatly improved, and we've even been able to reduce the frequency of his medicated baths. Romeo also has dry eye and will need daily eye drops long-term to keep him comfortable. This sweet boy enjoys walks, making friends with calm dogs, and sharing quality cuddle time. Once he's had his exercise, Romeo's ideal afternoon involves lounging on the couch next to his favorite human. Romeo needs a patient adopter who understands that building trust takes time. He requires a muzzle for applying topical medications until a bond of trust is established. With consistent, gentle care, Romeo will flourish into the loving companion he's meant to be. Romeo is looking for a dedicated and peaceful home where he can spend his golden years surrounded by love and comfort. Could that be with you? Romeo has a few health needs that require special care. Story
April is a 3-4 year old Shih Tzu weighing 12 pounds.  She came to us as a puppy mill survivor and is ready for the next and final journey in her quest for a forever home. April came into the rescue with a huge bladder stone causing her an immense amount of pain and discomfort.  The rescue got her into see a vet immediately and surgery was performed to remove the stone and spayed her at the same time.  She got better and has transformed into a very energetic and affectionate companion. Although she is still skittish and runs away from her foster mom, you can tell that she wants to trust.  Her tail is always wagging.  April will need leash training as she has not had any experience walking with one. Her housetraining needs on going support. She would do best in a home with a yard. She has been introduced to a few dogs and is quite friendly towards them.  She is extremely interested in the resident cat, a lot more interested than the cat is in her.  She may be a bit too intense for a cat. She likes to chew on her toys and doesn’t know the difference between her toys and a pair of reading glasses, so it would be advised to keep these things out of her reach. April is on a special diet to prevent stones from re-occurring and has to have drops in her eyes daily. She is pretty good at getting her eye drops put in. If you’re interested in giving April a home please fill in an application for our review:   https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/dog-adoption-application-2/  June 25, 2026, 2:22 pm

Story
Ivy Poodle/Shih Tzu mix Small Senior Female   This cutie patootie is Ivy a 12 pound, 10 year old, spayed, female Poodle and Shih Tzu mix whose owner can no longer provide her with the care she deserves. Ivy has lived in the same home since a puppy and is up to date on her vetting and housetrained.  She enjoys her walks and is used to doing her business while on leash walks.   She has not lived with another dog but has been dog sat in a home with a Golden Retriever and did well with that dog so we think she might be fine with a canine companion in her new home after a slow introduction.  She doesn't have any experience with cats.   Ivy has not lived with children but has been fine with visiting children.  We would only recommend children 12 years or older in her next home as she does guard items like tissue and her toys.  She will release the items she is guarding if offered an item of higher value to her.     Ivy is used to being left alone while her family works full-time and is described as quiet and non-destructive when left alone.  She is not crate trained and is fine to be left loose in the home.  She likes to be near her humans when they are home and sleeps on her bed in their bedroom.   She enjoys her walks and walks well on leash but may go to the end of the leash and bark at dogs on the same side of the street or moving things like bicycles.  Her new family should be willing to help her work through this behaviour using a positive reinforcement based approach.   Ivy will initially bark at visitors and it takes her a bit of time to become comfortable with new people.   She will lick her front paws and her veterinarian has recommended Cytopoint injections to help with this condition.  Her owner would wash her paws with medicated shampoo and use a cone to reduce the licking.  Ivy has been professionally groomed every 3 months and will continue to require regular grooms in her new home.  She is a bit nervous for grooms but co-operative.   Ivy is an energetic and active 10 year old who would love to find a new family who enjoys spending time with her, walks, play time in the yard, and is able to provide her with the care she deserves including regular grooms and management of her allergies.  Don't delay, apply to adopt Ivy today!      June 25, 2026, 2:22 pm

Story
This sweet dog sees with their heart and has so much love to give! Benji may not see with his eyes, but his other senses are on overdrive! He'll recognize you instantly by the sound of your voice and the unique scent of your hugs. This loving 2 year old Shhtzu mix is the most resilient, heart-filled pup you'll ever meet. He lost his eyes due to an untreated disease. But those days are behind him and now he has had vet treatment and is healthy, neutered and microchipped. From his wagging tail that never stops to his impressive "mapping" skills around the house, Benji is loving his foster siblings and home. His joy is unmatched, and he’ll bring you endless laughter and snuggles. He navigates his world with trust and confidence, reminding everyone around him to live in the moment. Blind dogs adapt quickly to a consistent and loving home. In return, the bond you build is an unbreakable connection built on pure trust. We have placed many blind dogs and are happy to connect you with other families for tips and support. If you're looking for a loyal, cuddly companion who will love you unconditionally, Benji is the one for you. Our preference is for a home with a fenced yard and another dog to help Benji learn the ropes. Please email us at c4ptoronto@gmail.com for an application and information.

Story
Meet Asparagus the long-legged little sprout whos about to turn even the pickiest veggie critic into a full-on fan. This 3-month-old Shih Tzu mix is bursting with personality, energy, and just the right amount of silliness. Asparagus is the kind of pup whos always first out of the garden gate on walks (those longer legs definitely give him a head start), eager to explore, sniff, and see what adventure is waiting around the corner. Curious and brave, hes happiest when hes on the move or right in the middle of the fun. Back at home, Asparagus is a playful little goofball who loves a good toy, a playful wrestle with his siblings, or a cuddle session with his people. He thrives in the company of others eating his meals (three times a day) and sleeping cozily in his crate alongside his siblings. Hes used to a routine and is bathed every other week to keep him fresh as a garden breeze.Asparagus loves liver treats! As a typical puppy, Asparagus is still learning the ropes and would benefit from formal training to help him grow into his best self. With consistency and love, this eager little sprout is sure to flourish. Asparagus' bloodwork showed some mild abnormalities the changes noted on his bloodwork is commonly seen in young puppies, and expected to normalize as he matures, but should be confirmed with the follow up bloodwork at 8-10 months of age at the expense of his adopter. He will need his final booster vaccination between July 1522. Through it all, Asparagus remains joyful, affectionate, and full of life a sweet, silly companion ready to grow right alongside you. If youre looking for a puppy who brings energy, laughter, and a little extra green goodness into your days, Asparagus is ready to plant himself firmly in your heart.   Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption. Story
Meet Trillium, a 3 month old Shih Tzu mix a delicate little bloom with a bright spirit, a thoughtful nature, and just the right touch of sass. Like her namesake wildflower, Trillium is a lovely balance of gentle beauty and quiet resilience. Shes a sweet, friendly puppy who adores attention, happily soaking up pets and praise from everyone she meets. Smart and eager, she already knows sit and is highly food-motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training as she grows. Aka queue -- the liver treats! Trillium brings a playful energy to her days, especially on walks and during playtime with her brothers. She enjoys toys, a good play wrestle, and then, just as happily, curling up for a peaceful rest once shes had her fun. Shes well-mannered overall, but like many thoughtful pups, she communicates her boundaries she may occasionally growl when shes had enough, particularly around food with her siblings when overstimulated. With continued guidance and respectful interactions (especially with children), shes already showing great improvement. As a typical puppy, Trillium will benefit from formal training to help her blossom into a confident, well-rounded companion. Trillium's bloodwork showed some mild abnormalities the changes noted on her bloodwork are commonly seen in young puppies, and expected to normalize as she matures, but should be confirmed with the follow up bloodwork at 8-10 months of age at the expense of her adopter.
