Story
Meet Gemma 💎Gemma is a beautiful 6-year-old 14 lb. Poodle with the sweetest, most gentle soul. While we don't know her full story, we believe she may have spent much of her life being used for breeding. When she came into our care, our veterinarian noted that she had likely recently had puppies and that they had already been weaned. When Gemma was found, her condition was heartbreaking. Her coat was severely neglected, and she simply laid there as if she had lost hope. But hidden beneath all of that neglect was something truly beautiful. Once she was shaved and cleaned up, we uncovered a precious gem, which is exactly how she got her name. She bears a striking resemblance to our former rescue, Monet, and we can't help but wonder if they may have come from the same place.Despite whatever life has handed her, she has remained nothing but loving. This precious girl absolutely adores people. She craves affection and soaks up every bit of love and attention she receives as though she has been waiting her entire life for it. She wants nothing more than to be close to her people and is learning, perhaps for the very first time, what it truly means to be a cherished family member instead of simply existing. She is a kind and sensitive little soul who can become worried when left behind, likely because she never wants to lose the wonderful people who have shown her love and kindness. She gets along wonderfully with cats and dogs of all sizes. She truly is a special little girl who deserves a lifetime of soft beds, gentle hands, and unconditional love. She has started her veterinary care and is scheduled to be spayed soon. She is available through our foster-to-adopt program while she completes her vetting. She will need patience as she continues to learn potty and leash training. Also a Poodle, Gemma will require regular grooming to keep her healthy, comfortable, and looking her best.Gemma has spent far too many years giving to others. Now it's her turn to be loved, cherished, and spoiled the way every dog should be. Could you be the family that shows her what happily ever after looks like?If you believe Gemma is the missing piece your family has been searching for, please fill out an adoption application on our website. She has waited a long time for her second chance. Let's make sure the rest of her story is the beautiful one she deserves. ❤️🐾Apps can be filled out at ...https://www.pawsofadamscounty.com/adopteeswww.pawsofadamscounty.com

Story
Daisy (formerly known as Layla) is a super cute poodle/puggle mix. She has wiry looking fur, but it’s very soft. She is super sweet and snuggly when she is tired, but when she is ready to go, watch out! ;) She is still very much a puppy and needs work on manners lol. She’s also still working on house training. She is very active, happy, and enjoys jumping around and wrestling. That’s why she was brought to us, because she was just too active for the older people who had taken her in. She will need a lot of exercise and redirection - she loves to play with toys, but she also will play with anything else on the floor. She needs a home with no or older children that are able to help teach her not to jump and nip. The preschooler she is currently fostered with is just too small. She responds well to correction, but she’s got the short attention span of a puppy so she often goes right back to what she was doing. If she gets lots of time outside running and playing, she is the sweetest most snuggly girl ever. She likes to play with cats, but they don’t always like her method of play. She would do really well with a playful dog. That is a little bigger than her that won’t let her completely get away with murder, but will tolerate some of her antics. That would also get rid of some of her energy if she had a canine playmate. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. Story
Velcro earned his name honestly. This fuzzy blonde/apricot poodle mix was found as a stray running after a vehicle in the middle of nowhere, and ever since, he’s made it his mission to never be far from his people again. He’s a total lapdog who wants to be right next to you, all day, every day, and he lights up when his people come home. He’s a genuinely fun dog. Give him a little stuffed toy and he’ll happily play fetch, bringing it right back and asking you to throw it again over and over.At just over 11 pounds, Velcro is easygoing and sweet. He does well around cats and will even try to play with them. He likes other dogs too, but he’s a bit leery of bigger, more boisterous dogs, since he’s small enough to get accidentally stepped on or bowled over during rough play. He’d do best in a home without a large dog, or with careful introductions if there is one. Velcro is very good with nice gentle children. He truly does like them, but being a sensitive soul he quickly become fearful or possibly even nippy with a child that was rough with him. He’s not a fan of being left alone and will let you know about it.House training just takes a little know-how. Velcro is currently living in a home with a dog door he’s not comfortable using, so he does best on a regular potty schedule, leash walks or time in a fenced area. As long as he’s taken out regularly, he does pretty well with keeping his business outside. He’s also got a adventurous streak and loves to explore, so he’s happiest and safest on a leash or in a securely fenced yard rather than roaming loose. That poodle mix coat means regular brushing and occasional trims to keep him comfortable and tangle-free. He does shed a moderate amount, so he isn’t considered hypoallergenic like some poodle mixes.Interested in adopting Velcro?
