Story
Meet Duke 🐾✨ — a cattle dog/poodle mix with brains, bounce, and a heart full of love. Duke is the best of both worlds: smart like a cattle dog and fluffy like a poodle, which means he’s basically a genius… with great hair. He’s always thinking, always watching, and probably already figured out where you keep the treats (and how to get to them). This sweet boy loves being with his people and has a playful, fun-loving side that keeps life interesting. Whether he’s zooming around the yard, showing off his “look how cute I am” skills, or just hanging out soaking up attention, Duke is happiest when he’s part of the action. He’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh with his goofy moments, impress you with his smarts, and then melt your heart when he settles in for some well-earned snuggles. A little silly, a lot loving, and 100% ready to be your best friend. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick who can keep up with your adventures and your couch time, Duke is your guy 💕 Dogs: We rec. a meet and greet! Cats: Unknown Kids: NO TINY TOTs!! MUST MEET ALL OTHER KIDDOS IN HOME!

Story
Gracie is a sweet, friendly, and expressive girl who loves being part of a family. She gets along well with cats and with other dogs, as long as food time is kept structured. She can be protective of what she thinks is hers, so she does best being fed separately or asked to sit for hand‑fed treats to keep things calm.Gracie is potty trained with dog‑door access, or she stays reliable on a consistent potty schedule. She’s a talker with plenty of personality, so she’s better suited to a home that isn’t an apartment.Crating is not her strong suit — she will work hard to break out — so if a crate is ever needed, it must be very sturdy. She thrives in a home where someone is around most of the day and where she can move freely and feel secure.Gracie will be spayed soon, or she can go home under a foster‑to‑adopt arrangement. She’s affectionate, social, and happiest when she has her people close. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. Story
Meet Artie ❤️If you're looking for a best friend who's equal parts goofy, loving, adventurous, and adorable, Artie may just be your perfect match.Artie came to DeKalb Humane Society from the amazing team at Shadarobah, who worked incredibly hard to help this sweet boy and give him the fresh start he deserves. He was transferred to us in hopes of finding his perfect forever family, and we're excited to help him get there. This handsome wire-haired mixed breed has the sweetest soul and a personality that shines once he gets comfortable. Artie loves spending time with his people, exploring the outdoors, running zoomies through the yard, and rolling dramatically in the dirt like it's his full-time job. He finds joy in the simple things—sunshine, fresh air, muddy paws, and a good belly rub. While Artie is incredibly loving with the people he knows and trusts, he can be nervous around new people and busy environments. Because of this, he would do best in a quieter, lower-traffic home where he can take his time getting comfortable. Artie isn't the type of dog who wants to meet every stranger right away—he prefers slow introductions and a chance to build trust at his own pace. Once he feels safe, his affectionate and playful personality truly shines.Artie would thrive with a family who understands that not every dog is a social butterfly and is willing to help him navigate new situations with patience and encouragement. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who forms deep bonds and loves wholeheartedly. He also loves spending time outdoors and would be thrilled to have a family that enjoys adventures as much as he does. And while he may come home a little dusty from his explorations, that scruffy coat is part of his charm! Because of his unique wire-haired coat, Artie will need regular grooming or a family willing to keep up with his coat care to keep him comfortable and looking handsome. If you're searching for a devoted companion with a goofy personality, a loving heart, and the cutest scruffy face around, Artie is waiting to meet you. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Story
Hi. I’m Anubis. Resident giant shaggy dude. Professional snack enthusiast. Amateur lap dog. (Nobody told me there’s a size limit.)When I first got here, I was pretty nervous. I had spent my whole life in a home, so moving into a shelter was… well… a lot. I wasn’t really sure what to think of everyone. But I’ve been here for a while now, and I’ve realized that the people here are actually pretty cool. Especially the ones who carry treats.Speaking of treats… if you have snacks, congratulations! We are already becoming best friends. Add a few belly rubs or snuggles, and I’ll probably start following you around like your very own scruffy shadow. I still seem to trust the guys a little faster, but honestly, anyone willing to spoil me with cookies and cuddles is my kind of person.I’ve also discovered that, despite being a pretty big fella myself, I actually like hanging out with smaller animals more than giant dogs. Big dogs can make me a little nervous, and that’s okay! We all have our preferences.Everyone keeps telling me I’m a really good boy, and I think they’re onto something. I’m sweet, I’m silly, I’m learning more every day, and I promise to make you laugh with my slobbery smooches and goofy personality. So… what do you think? You bring the snacks. I’ll bring the love. Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me.**Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs 82 lbs**
