The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! Russell Scruff has the kind of sweet, scruffy face that makes you want to scoop him up and tell him everything is going to be okay. With his tousled fur, gentle eyes, and quiet little personality, he has a way of pulling at your heart without even trying. He may be a little shy when you first meet him, but watching him gather the courage to take tiny baby steps toward you for affection makes earning his trust feel incredibly special. We believe he may be a Terrier mix, but with animal rescue, breed and age are always a mystery and our best guesses. Whatever his DNA may be, it certainly gave him an irresistible face and the perfect compact size! Russell is dog friendly and is currently being fostered in a home with other dogs, including dogs much bigger than he is. His foster has shared that everyone gets along great together. Having friendly canine companions around may even help Russell feel more comfortable as he settles into a new environment. Personality-wise, Russell is calm, gentle, and incredibly sweet. He is a sensitive little guy who needs a bit of time to warm up, but he wants affection and will slowly work up the courage to ask for it. He’ll take a few careful baby steps toward you, pause to make sure everything is safe, and then inch a little closer until he is finally within ear-scratching distance. It is such a tender, endearing way of asking for love, and once you see it, you’ll want to give him all the scratches he could ever ask for. Russell is crate trained, and his foster has shared that he sleeps through the night in his crate. From what we have seen so far, he also seems to understand where the appropriate place to go potty is. As with any rescue dog entering a new home and routine, he may need a little patience and consistency while he adjusts. Russell would love a calm, patient home where he can settle in at his own pace and learn that he is safe and loved. Give him a little time, plenty of gentle encouragement, and unlimited ear scratches, and this sweet scruffy boy will reward you with a truly special kind of love. Meet Neela! She a blue standard poodle born in 2016, and is as sweet as they come. Neela is the perfect companion for anyone seeking a loyal and affectionate friend. Neela is a blend of couch potato and quite active. Neela is a quick eater, so a slow-feeder dish helps to pace her mealtimes, and she is always eager to work for treats, making training a breeze! Weighing in at 51 lbs, Neela is the ideal size for cuddles and companionship. Secure fencing is a must, as she is extremely difficult to catch. Early on with her time in her foster home, she got loose and it took a week and a whole community looking out for her to get her back home. She requires a home without small children, but has lived peacefully with children 10 or older. Our sweet Gumbo is the best dog we could ever imagine having. Unfortunately our growing family is overwhelmed with raising children that we aren’t able to spend the type of time with Gumbo as she deserves. She is incredibly intelligent, well behaved and trained. You’ll be amazed to find out she is only 10 months old once you meet her. Our friends have described her as “a generational pet” and “you are so absurd to be letting someone else have this dog.” But it is where our family is and we have to prioritize our little human.All of her shots are up to date and she has profiles at multiple local daycares. She could use some leash work, but this is from lack of experience - she’s a quick learner with consistency.We have not spayed her yet so all her joints can develop first.Would love for you to meet our sweet Gumbo!

Animal Information:  Lila is a 1-year-old Lab/Labradoodle mix who came to us as an emergency intake. Her owner was fleeing a domestic violence situation and sadly could not bring Lila with them. Lila has been very loved and well cared for her whole life, and we promised her family that we would find her a wonderful home. Lila is a happy, social girl who loves everyone she meets. She went to doggy daycare regularly and does great with both small and large dogs. She also lived with two children under 7 and absolutely loved them. She is crate trained, house trained, loves car rides, and knows basic obedience. She does need some work on her leash manners because she likes to pull, but she is young and eager to learn. She is also learning not to jump, but approaches everything in life with 12 out of 10 enthusiasm. Lila has the softest ears, the sweetest face, and such a loving personality. She is a really special girl who deserves a family of her own. We know the right home is out there for her, and we can't wait to see her find it.  Foster Profile: This happy hurricane is doing great in foster care with a trainer. Lila is looking for an active home interested in continuing her training so she can be the best version of herself. She loves adventures, car rides, and playing with her furry friends. Lila is no couch potato, and needs to have her body and brain exercised every day. She is house trained, crate trained, walks well on leash with a training collar, and has good basic obedience skills. Animal Profile: Buddy is a 4.5-year-old Doodle (1/2 Border Collie 1/2 Standard Poodle). He was purchased from a breeder prior to his owners having children. Buddy is a friendly but slightly anxious guy who has not adjusted well to having a toddler in the home. His family invested in a 4-week board and train with a local dog trainer in hopes that it would help Buddy feel more comfortable around small toddlers. Buddy completed his training; he has excellent house and leash manners, is house trained, crate trained; and knows the ‘place’ command. Unfortunately he was still too uncomfortable around the kids after training, and his family decided it was best to find him a new home. Buddy has been trained using balanced methods, including e collar for off leash reliability. Buddy does great at doggy daycare, but does have some resource guarding around food and select toys when it comes to other dogs. While he enjoys his dog friends, we think he’d be happiest as an only dog. Buddy has not lived with cats. Buddy is currently in foster care with a balanced trainer, and doing well.
