Story
Pierce is a good looking boy straight from the streets of Houston. He is a wonderful, funny boy when he trusts you but trust is not something that comes easy for him. He has obviously been let down by humans his entire life. He is currently living with our trainer, who is helping him understand that humans can be good and trusted. Pierce is just about 2 years old, 60 pounds and maybe a schnauzer/husky mix. He needs an experienced handler who can continue to help him build h is confidence and trust in humans. Pierce is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. Pierce is currently heartworm positive but we will continue to cover treating him through the slow kill method. If you are interested in fostering or adopting this handsome guy, just fill out the appropriate application found at scoutshonor.org.     Scout's Honor Rescue is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill TX shelters. EIN # is 87-0773073 Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scoutshonorrescue or Instagram at www.instagram.com/scoutshonorrescue We have multiple ways to donate: Venmo:  @ScoutsHonor-Rescue Paypal: www.paypal.me/scoutshonorrescue   https://scoutshonor.org/take-action/donate/ We are strictly volunteer based, no salaries are paid and 100% of donations go towards rescuing dogs September 25, 2023, 1:11 am

Story
Hi! I'm Sophie! I'm one of the newest members in the SHR Family!   What are you doing on Saturday, March 25th? Do you want to meet me? Stop by 3415 Couch Street! I am super happy these guys said they would help me. You see, my mom is not doing well and cannot take care of me. I am a young (2 years old), active girl and my mom is having another big surgery with another big and tough recovery, and because she loves me so much, she wants me to find a home where I get to have fun and be active without accidentally hurting her or my “granny”.   I love other dogs, cats, humans, kids, just everyone! I have been allowed on furniture and love to snuggle, but I don't shed much, so hopefully that’s ok with you:) I am a cute 35 pound schnauzer mix.   I am looking for both a foster and a forever home.  September 25, 2023, 1:11 am

Story
Alley - Schnauzer Mix - Female - 10 years - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Alley: This sweet & very shy little Schnauzer mix girl is about 10 yrs old and came to us when her owner was no longer able to care for her. Alley has an unpleasant background that caused her to be afraid of most men and less than trusting with most people. She takes a while to trust a new person, her foster family was able to slowly gain her trust with the help of the other dogs in the house.  Alley would do best with someone that works from home or is retired as she likes to follow her people around the house. Older kids may be OK, & younger children who tend to be louder and more randomly active scare her. Alley is a creature of habit and not a fan of change, so it took her quite a bit to get used to her new foster home. Once she's convinced that she is safe, she is very sweet & loving, & Alley loves to sleep in her crate at night. Alley has a medium length coat but only sheds a little but will need to be groomed on a regular basis. Alley is what we could consider a "project dog", she will take quite a bit of time and patience to relax in a new home, but she is loving and affectionate and has the softest fur and is very much worth the effort. ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***

Story
NOTE: THIS BIO IS FOUR YEARS OLD AND MAY NOT REFLECT CURRENT BEHAVIOR. Blue had a good home but his owners moved and he couldn't go along. Then he was adopted and returned because his adopter's dog didn't care for him. He weighs 43 pounds and is still a puppy but he already knows the sit, stay, no, down, and fetch commands. His previous owner who crated him most of the time said he is house trained; his recent adopter said he is still working on it and that he needs to go out often. He is friendly and playful with dogs and children but likes to roughhouse. Until he gets some training under his belt, his mouthiness and rough play style make him more suitable for a home without young children so the kids will need to be at least 15 years old. Take him to Rover Oaks for an obedience course. Being a CAP alumni, he gets a 50% discount. He is still learning about dog park etiquette but generally behaves well. He has a huge amount of energy and enjoys car rides, fetch, tugging, toys, and going for walks where he walks fairly well on a leash. He is protective of his home and family. He still likes jumping up and chewing - especially those discarded delicacies he might find in the trash can. He isn't fond of being left alone or being crated for long periods of time. Improving his behavior so he can be out and about is one of his goals. He loves to be petted so give him a little loving when you come to visit him. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Bite History! (minor)This little nugget got a bit 'defensive' and bit.  We don't know what the circumstances were surrounding the bite.  The shelter reports it was  'minor' bite.  We will tell you he presented as defensive and unfriendly at our vet.  We were able to administer an anti-anxiety drug to help him deal with the stress of being poked/prodded.  He was NOT happy about it, but we were able to get him vetted! We are working on helping him to learn trust.  His adopter will need to be prepared to continue this type of counter-conditioning to help him become less reactive to restraint.   We have been able to crate him, and he does well in a crate.  He's a great little dog who will get along with females, but is male selective.    He can (and will) climb a baby gate.  He's really very sweet and loves to be loved.  He will roll over and show you his belly.   He dislikes strangers and his family will need to give him some time to decompress and learn to trust.   PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF YOU HAVE OR PLAN TO GET ANOTHER MALE DOG  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 27, 2023, 11:02 am
