Story
Meet Poncho!! Intelligent, energetic and sweet, Poncho is a 2.5 yr old Border Collie mix. He has a young, happy heart and lights up like a kid on Christmas morning while playing with his ball or rope tug toy. He is loyal to his core, loving his family with everything he has. In fact, his theme song is “I’ll Stand By You” by the Pretenders. Poncho was a little too well loved in his prior home and is making progress toward achieving a healthy weight. His goal is around 50# from a current 56#. Luckily, he is excited to take his people for walks and show them around town. He pulls on leash for the first few minutes, then settles in nicely. It’s the perfect time of year to enjoy strolls before or after work (or both) with this handsome lad. Like many highly intelligent dogs, Poncho wants to use his big brain in addition to getting daily exercise. He enjoys puzzle toys and working on basic obedience skills. He can’t wait to take classes and be the star pupil! His foster family is helping him learn how to relax by using a mat for downtime where he enjoys chewing on bones or working on a Kong. Poncho is a great fit for families that appreciate and understand smart, engaged herding dogs. He can live with dog-savvy kids roughly 10+, and hopes they enjoy playing fetch! He dreams of a fenced yard and is also well suited to families who keep their dogs safe on leash. He is house and kennel trained. Poncho loves life as an only dog and does well meeting new canine friends for walks and excursions. He tries to gently herd the kitty in his foster home, but we feel he would be more comfortable in a cat-free home. This special dog deserves all the love he puts into the world with his optimistic, upbeat approach to life. If you enjoy the company only a devoted dog can provide, APPLY to adopt Poncho at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Poncho is being fostered in Forest Lake, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Poncho's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Meet Nick, a tender-hearted, 4-year-old, 50# Border Collie ready to discover what it feels like to be truly treasured. He is the kind of dog whose gentle presence fills a home with warmth. He's adoring, amorous, and cuddly. If you're looking for a special connection, Nick wants to meet you! Nick’s favorite thing in the whole world is simple: attention from his people. He melts with affection, and happily settles in close once he trusts you. He enjoys getting out for daily walks, with a love of quiet nature trails where he can take in new sights (and smells!) at his own pace. Because his life before rescue was limited, many experiences are still new to him. Nick is optimistic and willing to learn about the world. With patience and reassurance, he’s blossoming beautifully - look at his proud smile in pictures! This handsome guy would thrive in a moderately active home with a calm vibe. People who enjoy including their dog in their daily rhythm are a perfect fit. A fenced yard is ideal, and he can live with a family with a history of keeping dogs safe on leash. He doesn’t require an experienced herding-dog family; he simply needs people who are kind and ready to help him build confidence. He’s good with cats and can live with older kids. While a canine sibling would be a lovely bonus, it’s not required if his humans are engaged with him. Nick is still working on his housebreaking (schedule helps!) and basic obedience skills. He lights up with praise for a job well done. He finds comfort in his crate, and walks better on leash all the time. His foster family describes him as an eager, open-hearted student. If you're looking for a deeply bonded companion, Nick is ready to make up for lost time. He will become the cherished best friend he was always meant to be. Nick is being fostered in Clear Lake, MN (near St. Cloud). Paul. Nick's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. Story
Meet Paul ($250 adoption fee!)! Sensitive and curious. Loving and a little unsure. Gentle. Paul is a wonderful, devoted companion looking for a quieter home with people that share his love of simple things. Spending time outside. Playing with toys. CHEESE! Familiar surroundings. Cozy evenings on the couch with family. He’s a homebody if we ever met one. He is a Border Collie mix born in early May 2024, 55#. He wants to FIND HIS FOREVER! Paul flourishes in a familiar, calm environment where he gets to spend lots of time with his people. His ideal family understands the importance of building trust with shy dogs and moves at their pace. A fenced yard is a big priority – he absolutely loves being outside in all kinds of weather, showing off his goofy, silly personality. LOVES his crate – it’s a safe space to relax. Best with adults and respectful, gentle teenagers. Paul has lovely manners with other dogs, happily interacting with canines of all sizes. MUST have a canine buddy in his new home to make him feel safe and model confident behaviors. In return, he’s a low-maintenance lifelong friend. He happily lives with cats. Once settled in a new home and bonded to his people, Paul would like to expand his world. With his family and canine sibling in tow, he will gain confidence out in the world. He will always be happiest at home. When he’s comfortable, he is confident and happy – check out his proud prance in the video montage (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zO6u8O21AVA?feature=share), Paul is a naturally alert dog and notices the little things. Unexpected sounds or sights like plastic bags blowing down the street or a squeaky ceiling fan get his attention. Paul takes 20 mg fluoxetine daily to help him feel more relaxed. The cost of this medication is less than $6 a month on Chewy.com Paul will add so much love to his forever family. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this special boy. He is being fostered in Rochester, MN. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit.
