History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own! A Note from the Foster: Ready to Adopt? Meet Poppy, the Perfect Companion! At just 2 years old, Poppy is a delightful blend of a mature, well-mannered dog and a fun-loving pup! Her spirit is energetic and playful, but she’s also a wonderful companion who knows how to relax. Personality: She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and thrives on getting attention from her humans. Behavior: She is remarkably quiet for her age and consistently maintains a clean kennel both day and night—a true indicator of her house-training potential! Social Life: She is a social butterfly, happily playing with dogs of all sizes. She has shown no issues being around children and would fit beautifully into a family setting. Outings: She is great on the leash, making walks enjoyable and easy! Poppy is looking for a home where she can share her boundless love and energy. Could you be the forever family that gives this deserving girl a spot on your sofa?

History: We recently welcomed a litter of 2 local heeler puppies who needed a second chance. They arrived to rescue happy and such sweet girls who are each hoping to find forever homes of their very own soon! A Note from the Foster: She is getting used to going to the door when she needs to go potty, yay! She loves to play and has taken a shine to a tug of war rope we got her. She is pretty well behaved besides her puppy crazy puppy times. She likes to chew so we have gotten her crinkly toys and those sorts of things besides the chew bones (not much interest on the chew bones often, more toy oriented) she like slippers so keep those away! She will curl up at your feet (wherever you are) for nap time. She is still learning to walk on a leash, but she doesnt pull, just doesnt walk straight 🤪

History: We recently welcomed a litter of 2 local heeler puppies who needed a second chance. They arrived to rescue happy and such sweet girls who are each hoping to find forever homes of their very own soon! A Note from the Foster: Hi there! My name is Victoria, but you can call me Vicki, V, or “that adorable blur dashing across the living room.” I’m a 12-week-old heeler mix with supermodel good looks, silky soft fur, and a tail that never stops wagging! Let me tell you a little about myself: I LOVE to play—stuffies, tug-of-war, you name it! I’m a fast learner, too (especially if snacks are involved). I already know how to sit and I’m working hard on my stay, fetch, and roll over games. My foster mom says I’m rocking both leash and potty training—I even keep my crate clean and am peaceful all night long (dreaming of toys and adventures, of course). And did I mention belly rubs? They are my absolute FAVORITE! I’ll flop over and show my belly to anyone with gentle hands and a little love to spare. I have a bestie here, an 8-year-old mini poodle, and I think she’s amazing! I try to copy everything she does (sometimes she gives me that “puppy, please chill” look, but I can’t help my zoomies). When we’re tuckered out, I love a good snuggle and nap. While I don’t live with cats, I met some nice kitties at the groomer while getting my hair done, and we got along just fine. I was polite and curious—no puppy drama, just good vibes all around! I’m looking for a forever family that will cheer me on as I learn, toss my favorite toys, teach me more tricks, and give the best belly scratches ever. Are you ready for puppy kisses, silly antics, and lots of love? Maybe we’re meant to be! 💚 If you’d like to meet me, go ahead and fill out an adoption application. I’ll be waiting to roll over and greet you with my cutest head tilt! Walk up song: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper

History: I am Mayzee’s puppy and was born in rescue! A beautiful stocky heeler mix named Mayzee arrived to rescue when she was found as a pregnant stray in a very rural area where she was fending for herself with another dog. She arrived to rescue very scared and uncertain of people around her. She had her litter of puppies and her journey with her puppies in rescue have been unique to work towards gaining her trust while helping her with her confidence. Her puppies are doing well however and are each ready to start their journeys in finding forever homes of their very own soon! Heeler and heeler mix dogs are a working dog breed and would thrive best in an active household that is excited to provide lots of physical exercise and go through training. These dogs are very smart and love learning. They do best when they have a job to do and are generally not couch potatoes. They can also make great family pets as long as they are still given the appropriate outlets for their energy and drive. We recommend doing research on the Heeler aka Australian cattle dog breed prior to applying to adopt to ensure they are a good fit for your family.

Story
Meet JJ, an 8-year-old, 40# Border Collie with a heart as soft as his beautiful coat. To meet him is to love him! This tender, gentle and sensitive boy is as easily to live with as it gets. Sweet. Loving. He is looking for a family that wants to pet him, play with his toys, go on walks, and let him follow them around the house with quiet devotion. In return, he is an amazing confidante and companion that brightens every day. JJ’s favorite things are all about connection. He absolutely lights up when told he’s a good, brave boy. He is happiest when settled at your feet. JJ needs a fenced yard attached to his home for exploring and bathroom breaks - he isn’t pottying on lead just yet. He loves his crate, is housebroken, walks nicely on leash and is friendly to visitors. Out in the world, he watches other dogs and people with interest. He may startle at loud noises, but recovers quickly. JJ's foster family asks him to try “one hard thing” each day, understanding that some things (like car rides) are challenging for him... and could be too much that day. They are moving at JJ's pace to build trust, accepting that some days he is just not up to it. All these positive experiences are buildings JJ's confidence in his people and his world. The ideal family for JJ is calm and patient. Experience supporting timid dogs would be ideal. JJ is looking for a home with minimal stairs due to weakness in his rear end (walks and playtime are making him stronger all the time!). He doesn’t need a canine sibling, though a quiet, low-key doggie friend would be fine. An adult home or one with older, gentle kids is a good fit for JJ. We are not sure what he would think of cats. We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home for JJ. APPLY to FOSTER at: hoabcr.org/volunteer-foster APPLY to ADOPT at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt JJ has arthritis and benefits from daily medications and supplements (gabapentin, carprofen and an Omega-3) to help him feel better. The rescue will supply 3 months of medication (approximately $50/mo) to his adopters. He may wean himself off these meds as he gets stronger and more active. JJ is being fostered in Richfield, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. We supply our foster and foster-to-adopt homes with all required food, supplies and medication. We hope his fosters will find themselves unable to let him go! In that case, JJ's adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Are you looking for a devoted, adventure-seeking partner to bring fun energy into your life? Jaguar wants to meet you! He is a one-year-old, 45# handsome, joyful, bright Border Collie mix (DNA test pending) seeking a forever home that will appreciate his happy outlook. Jaguar lives with multiple dogs in his foster home and would enjoy a patient canine companion. He would also be happy as a solo pup. Since being sprung from a rural shelter in northern Minnesota, his focus has been on house manners, basic training and just being a dog. Jag learns quickly, showing lots of intelligence with a willingness to please. He will thrive with structure, obedience classes and one-on-one time with his chosen person. Matching his love of life, Jaguar’s big personality absolutely shines with human connection. He is tall and athletic, with talent to excel as an outdoor enthusiast, hiking buddy, and probably many dog sports. Food and toy-motivated, confident without being a bully, good indoor off-switch, crate and house trained. He’s ready to jump in the car and check out new destinations anytime. The ideal home for Jaguar has herding breed experience and enjoys keeping active dogs happy. They are affectionate and want to include their dog in everything they do. Older kids are a good fit. Jaguar is suited to a single family dwelling, with preference for a fenced yard. He was originally surrendered for chasing livestock and will chase kitties if given the opportunity. Jaguar’s smile and happy eyes tell you all you need to know. If you’re looking for a strong bond with a very special dog, APPLY to adopt Jaguar! He is being fostered in Stanchfield, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Story
Gunnar is amazing. There's no other way to say it! He's a 9 year old, 40# Border Collie that wants to hand his heart to his new family. A gentle soul. Intelligent, sweet, and friendly. He greets new people calmly, with an open heart and eyes that ask “Will you be my friend?” He soaks up affection, snuggling next to you and softly tapping a paw to encourage ongoing pets. His personal heaven is the backyard, where Gunnar rolls in the grass in summer and enjoys sunshine in winter. His contented smile when outside speaks volumes. His foster mom says he is the most well-mannered dog she has ever worked with, which is saying a LOT. He is wonderful with all the dogs he has met, crate trained and also trustworthy safe in the house. He sleeps in the bedroom on a dog bed or in an open crate, but if invited, he will gently snuggle you all night. He walks calmly on a loose leash and loves to see new sights. Gunnar would do best in a low key home with a routine. He was adopted as an only dog and had to come back to us because he missed the presence of another friendly dog in the home. He's never been without a canine sibling... and we want him to have that companionship. Calm, respectful teens who want a friend to help with homework are right up his alley. He will love everyone in his new family with everything he has. Gunnar will be one of the greatest gifts his new family will ever receive. We're saving the "Happy Adoption Day" toy for the day his dreams come true! APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Gunnar is being fostered in Shoreview, MN. Gunnar's adoption fee is $350 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. His smile is even more amazing after his recent full dental check-up and cleaning. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit.
