Story
I'm Winter. Here I am, in the winter, having a litter of puppies. I''ve been a good little momma and I'll have my puppies weaned by February 7. About a week later, I'll be ready for a place of my own. I'm loyal and eager to snuggle in with a special someone.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2602912##

I like dogs that are not threatening to me..smaller and older. I am housetrained and can be left in the house with no issues. Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Litter was transferred to Colorado Puppy Rescue from Furever Friends of Grant County (Kansas). Per partner notes, the puppies originated from a hoarding situation in Oklahoma involving 13 dogs total in the home. CPR took 12 dogs from the situation, with 1 dog placed elsewhere. Puppies are approximately 8 months old, estimated 20-30 lbs, and arrived fixed and up to date on vaccines. From the foster: Lily is the definition of resilience. Despite her previous situation, she has really been working on making up for lost time and learning how to be a playful dog. The 3-3-3 rule is in action with her from the moment you bring her home. Let me explain this a bit further so you know how she truly is. Lily is shy. She appears to be disengaged at our events. This is because the event is overwhelming for her. She may need a quieter room to meet you in when you come to the event. When you take her home, you want to really keep an eye on her as she is very anxious in new environments. Her initial reaction is to run and hide. I suggest taking her into your yard with a leash and harness so that she doesn’t hide where you can’t get her. Be gentle, calm and reassuring as she will respond to being pet. When inside the house for the first time, she responds to having space to explore. She loves chewy dog treats and a gentle pet on the head or back to reassure her she is safe (as she feels more comfortable, she will allow it). Within about an hour she will most likely want to be on your couch. That’s when you know you have your magnet dog! She is happiest with her people and snuggled up. She does get along great with dogs. If you don’t bring them to the event, I suggest a slow introduction so she isn’t overwhelmed. Her personality really starts to shine by the 3rd day! She is definitely a wire hair Terrier mix. I suggest reading up on their character traits because they are awesome). She is full of energy and will jump everywhere. Be prepared for her to sneak up behind you and jump on the couch in a sneak attack to snuggle. This breed is known to be a bunch of comedians. She is starting to show this personality trait as she is decompressing and feeling safe. She is making up for lost time. She’s just learning how to “dog”. Being around other dogs is the perfect model for her. She is learning how to play with toys and is even trying to engage with playing with the other dogs in the home. She is still socially awkward and learning the rules. Eating may be a little tricky for her. When she is anxious, she won’t eat. We mix rice with chicken (a little broth for flavor) and mix in her kibble. Lily is by far one of the most amazing pups I have fostered. Everything that could have broken her spirits has only made her stronger. She is growing more comfortable in her own fur every day. She just needs her furever family to allow her to continue to blossom into the beautiful flower she is named after. FYI: her foster is usually at the events. In the event she is running late and you have reserved Lily, please have one of the volunteers call as I would love to answer any questions you have! www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
