As a result of consistent training, he has become much less wary, even taking treats and sniffing people he has never seen before. Now, he knows how to be affectionate not only with his foster family but also with visitors who come to the house. * With Dogs: Coexists peacefully with other dogs and doesn’t show much interest first. Doesn’t approach them to greet but is polite enough to respond to greetings of other dogs. Showed some defensive nipping to sudden approaches in the past but is improving as he meets more dogs. * With Cats: Waits gently when seeing cats. * Separation Anxiety: Mostly rests napping or sometimes plays with balls when alone. Recently, stayed for three days at a boarding facility, where he was anxious and had trouble adjusting for the first six hours. After that, he settled in well. When left alone with strangers, he either approaches them and barks or sniffs them. * Potty Training: Prefers outdoor potty but uses pee pads indoors without any issue. * Hygiene: Handles bathing, brushing, drying, and tooth brushing like a pro. * Walks: Loves walks and matches his pace to yours! Doesn’t run after other people and reliably comes to his guardian, staying beside or behind them. * Car Sickness: No motion sickness; relaxes well during car rides. * Barks and may show defensive nibbling when strangers visit home or suddenly reach out their hands to him during walks. Dislikes to be intuded in his territory and sometimes nips in such situation. Is getting constant training to fix it. * May bark defensively if someone suddenly runs toward him during walks. * Likes playing with a squeaky ball and doing nosework with treats. Wiggles happily when his butt is petted. * Is sensitive around his belly, so it is recommended to approach carefully and to touch it as if petting softly. Is scared of staircases in buildings and is currently being trained slowly with treats. For now, he’s still being carried when he has to climb the steps. * Has mastered several commands like 'sit,' 'lie down,' 'paw,' 'another paw,' 'nose,' 'high-five,' 'kiss,' and 'house.'

Hello, My name is Dodge. I was found wondering the streets on December 16th 2024. I was running under cars trying to avoid getting hit, but because I wanted to be saved, I just couldn't resist "dodging" into traffic! The lady that saved me was already fostering for a dog through a rescue called woofwoof fosters. It was then that i knew that i would be in great hands. I have seen the vet a few times and also went to UT in Knoxville, TN at the rehab center for small animals. I was told that I am approx. 10 years old. I do come with some things that will need to be monitored, but nothing too bad really. The vet wants me to stay on a heart pill that is supposed to help with my suspected heart murmur. I am using eye ointment once every 12 hours and am not allowed to jump up and down on things. I go back to UT for a recheck in Feb. I will go outside to potty and will also use a pee pad. I am looking for my forever home where I can spend the rest of my days in a loving home. I have been through allot, but I am looking forward to cuddling with you! I am very vocal when I'm not being held if you are near me. I just love melting in your arms for a nice long cosey nap, Below is what was sent to my rescue home from UT. Generalized muscle atrophy (moderately severe) weight: 4.09 kgs (9 lbs.) ============================================================================= CASE SUMMARY: Dodge is an approximately 10 year old male castrated mixed breed dog that presented to UTCVM Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Service for hindlimb lameness and ataxia. He was found 12/16/24 under a truck and taken to a veterinarian where he received radiographs (x-rays) that indicated chronic intervertebral disc disease at the thoracolumbar spinal junction. On physical exam Dodge had some moderate pain in his left hip on extension, moderate pain on compression of the ilial wings bilaterally, and moderate pain on tail extension. Other abnormal physical exam findings included a grade 4/6 heart murmur, some moderate debris in both ears, and some moderate alopecia (hair loss) along his back. All other vital parameters were within normal limits and his neurologic exam was normal. As discussed, there were a couple of different diagnostic and treatment options. One plan included sedated pelvic radiographs to evaluate the hip and lumbosacral junction. If significant arthritis documented, a course of anti-inflammatories if significant arthritis or lumbosacral disease was present. If fully characterizing the degree and cause of his heart disease is a goal, an echocardiogram to determine his heart's current size and function is the starting point. As we discussed, since he is currently on Vetmedin, if his heart is normal on echo it could be an effect of the Vetmedin improving his heart size. A true baseline would be to perform an echo after discontinuing Vetmedin for 30 days. If his echo while on Vetmedin, than routine cardiac follow up per the cardiologist would be standard of care for monitoring progression (usually a repeat echo every 3-12 months depending on severity of disease). Because Dodge still us underweight and just beginning to stabilize into a normal home, we recommended continuing good nutritional support, time, and monitoring to see if Dodge's weakness persists once he gains muscle mass. Though we had also discussed adding fish oils, Dodge had a positive pancreatitis test during his vomiting episode. Fats in the diet can sometimes trigger pancreatitis, so we are recommending waiting until his body weight normalizes before introducing any additional fat into the diet. Similarly, the addition of the anti-inflammatories could disrupt the GI system and since his mobility is fully functional, we prefer to wait at this time to start any anti- inflammatories. If you note worsening of his mobility, difficulty rising or limping on the left hind, then we would consider starting an NSAID medication for dogs. ============================================================================= MEDICATIONS: 1. Vetmedin 1.25 mg: Give as previously prescribed 2. Optimmune: Give as previously prescribed ============================================================================= CURRENT RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Continue Dodge's current diet & caloric intake. We calculated his energy requirement as 361 Kcal/day and his Purina One Small Bites contains 362 Kcal. The Lil Cesar's contain between 60-80 Kcal per packet. It is fine to continue the kibble and Cesar wet food at this time. 2. Continue his Dasuquin joint supplement. 3. Monitor for any signs of noticeable gait changes or pain (limping, lameness, holding a paw up, dragging or scuffing paws, swelling, vocalizing or reacting to palpation, unusual posturing, etc.) 4. Regular exercise: We do want Dodge to rebuild muscle as he is gaining weight. The best low impact exercise would be walking. We recommend starting the 10-20 minute walks once daily. ============================================================================= FUTURE RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Consider adding in an omega 3 supplement (fish oil) if skin/coat does not respond to a high quality balanced diet. 2. Is getting rehab, but long walks or exercise should be adjusted based on his condition. 2⃣ Rescue Story * Miracle was brought to the Gimje Shelter with fractures in both hind legs and spine. Due to overcrowding, he couldn’t receive the care he needed at the shelter. Adogs rescued him, and he received orthopedic surgery and continuous treatment. 3⃣ Personality and Behavior • With People: Likes people and adjusts well! May be shy at first and after some time to sniff and explore, gets to be familiar to them. Once comfortable, he’ll wag his tail and approach for pets. • With Dogs: Gets along well with other dogs. Is calm in nature, and prefers quietly watching others rather than rough play. * With Cats: Does not mind cats and has no issue. • Separation Anxiety: Unknown due to the group living at the center. May need training at the home environment. • Potty Training: Has ccasional potty accidents. When getting surprised or getting up after sleep, accidental potty is on the cushion. • Grooming: Very well-behaved during baths. Tries to avoid being touched on feet during toenail trimming. • Walks: Walks nicely without pulling on the leash. • Car Rides: Rides comfortably without motion sickness. * Nip: Has never nipped before. * Bark: May bark at strangers. * Like: Loves treats. * Dislike: Dislikes to get his feet touched probably due to getting hurt on them before. Meet Toto! He is a little shy and a sweet boy who wants to be loved :) Behaviours from the foster mom : Toto loves doggie friends, but he is a bit shy. He wags his tail cheerfully and waits for other dogs to come to him first. Toto hasn't met any cat friends yet, so we don't know how he would react to them. Toto loves kids and is very comfortable around them. He seems to be more comfortable with female adults than with males. He gets scared by sudden, big movements or loud noises, so please give him some time to adjust to a new environment, especially at the beginning. :) He is good at bathing and brushing, but he is afraid of the dryer, so his foster mom is trying to help him feel more comfortable with it. He has great manners on his walks, though he sometimes gets scared by loud noises or shadows, so please make sure he is on a leash and be cautious during walks. He only does his business outside. He is not a big barker, but he sometimes barks when he hears noises from outside. He hasn't shown any signs of separation anxiety, and he doesn’t feel carsick during drives. He wasn't specifically kennel trained, but he goes into his kennel when he is told to. He is a smart boy. ;) He hasn't shown any aggressive behavior, but he sometimes nibbles when he gets scared or startled, so please don’t scare him suddenly. Toto is a sweet boy who will shine with some time in a new family. Toto had a heartworm issue when he was rescued, but he is all cured now, and he's been given heartworm and flea/tick prevention medication every month since then. Dental scaling completed. 2⃣ Rescue Story * Edge was living at the Gimje City Shelter, waiting for a gentle hand to reach out to her. Sadly, no family came forward to adopt her. During the week-long Chuseok holiday, the shelter became overcrowded, and it was difficult for Edge to receive the appropriate care she needed. To prevent that she would spend the long holiday alone while neglected, Adogs urgently rescued her. 3⃣ Personality & Characteristics • With People: Absolutely loves people and shows no shyness at all! Happily jumps up, follows people around closely, and loves staying by their side. Makes great eye contact and is very affectionate and sociable. • With Dogs: Gets along well with other dogs, including new ones she meets for the first time. • With Cats: Has no interest in cats who stay still, but rushed in to catch when they move. • Separation Anxiety: Since she’s currently living in a group environment at the center, it’s hard to assess. May need basic training when she transitions to home life. • House Training: Not yet known, as she’s currently living in a group setting at the center. * Hygiene: Has no resistance to get her feet touched. Doesn't like toenail trimming, so tries to pull her feet out during it. * Walk : Is a very good walker! Walks in step next to people. • Car Rides: Showed no signs of motion sickness during trips to and from the center or the vet clinic. * Bite: There is no aggressive bite, but gnaws heels or Achilles tendon of people when they walk by. Often bites and pulls their clothes. • Barking: Hasn’t barked or whined so far. • Likes: Is a super charming dog who adores people so much. * Dislikes: Tries to avoid getting toenail trimming.
