Meet our Whippet/Golden Retriever mix puppies — a special litter of gentle souls learning how to be carefree pups for the very first time. These puppies came to us from Illinois Doberman Rescue after being discovered in the barn where they were born. They were scared and under-socialized, not having much contact with humans prior to this. They arrived at our shelter understandably shy, unsure, and overwhelmed by the world around them. With time, patience, and a gentle, respectful approach, these sweet pups have already begun an incredible transformation. Day by day, they are blossoming—starting to explore, showing curiosity, and learning what it means to play, trust, and simply be puppies. Watching them rediscover joy has been nothing short of heartwarming. While they are making great progress, they will need patient, understanding families who will continue this journey with them. Their ideal home will give them the space to move at their own pace, offering reassurance without pressure. Each of these pups has so much love to give—they just need someone willing to meet them where they are and show them the kindness they’ve always deserved. ❤️

Meet Sophia…. Sophia is an adorable puppy, thought to be a Whippet – Black Lab Mix; she’s petite with a dainty bone structure vs the more solid bone structure of a Lab!! She’s very smart, a quick learner, very alert and quite energetic!! At about 4 months, Sophia weighs 16 lbs. It is most important to note that we cannot be 100% sure of her adult weight, but our best guess is about 35-40 lbs. This cute pup joined BAARK from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky earlier this year. She is thought to have been born around November 24 2022. When joining our rescue program, Sophia appeared happy, playful, and must have sensed that she was “free!” and safe!! Sophia is very sociable, outgoing, playful, and is great with dogs, but can be annoying to older, more well mannered dogs; she would be far too energetic for a senior (dog or human!) An ideal family for Sophia is one able to assimilate the energy of a puppy into their lifestyle and is willing to commit the time to working with and training Sophia to be her best self! A fenced yard is ideal as is another younger or middle-aged pup in the family. Perhaps you’d consider adopting Sara along with Sophia…the girls are sisters!! Sophia is crate-trained and is working on good house manners (housebreaking). She is up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, is on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Lola is a sweet older girl. We think is about 11 years old. She is black with gray highlights. She was rescued, but has been raised with children. She is pretty quiet, doesn't bark much. She is very interested in squirrels. She likes to cuddle. She becomes nervous when there are loud noises or when she is left alone.

Born: February 25, 2026 I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $600 All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Kasumi is still learning how to love and be loved. She was a terrified ball of brown fur in her kennel when she arrived. For good reason too. There is a scar around her neck from something unsavory from her past. Kasumi outside of her kennel is super silly. She likes to be close as possible and still figuring out how to ask for love without the energy. She is smart and we are sure she is already making great strides. A good home will help her even more. Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog.
