You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Nala is the sweetest girl who just wants to love and be loved. :)  she absolutely adores toys and could spend all day playing, then curling up for cuddles right after. Nala does best with another dog to play with, as she loves having a buddy by her side. Because of her playful energy and love for running around, a fenced yard is a must for her. she’s great with people, full of affection, and more than ready to find her forever home where she can finally settle in and be part of a family! :) REQUIREMENTS:   Fenced Yard, Another dog       Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Current Location: Ijamsville, MD Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Macaroni: The Sweet, Shy Soul Ready to Blossom If you have a quiet home and a heart full of patience, Macaroni might just be the missing piece of your family. A survivor of a challenging past, Macaroni is learning that the world isn’t quite as scary as she once thought. While she is still discovering the simple joys of life, she is proof that with time and kindness, even the shyest dogs can show their true colors. The "Real Talk" on Macaroni Macaroni needs an adopter who respects her pace and understands that her progress is measured in small, beautiful moments: Earning Trust: Macaroni is not a "lap dog" in the traditional sense. She is still very fearful of direct touch; however, when she feels safe she’ll tentatively seek out chin scratches or give you a gentle "boop" with her nose when you aren't looking. She needs a home that will give her the space to approach you on her terms. The "Ignore" Rule: She is cautious around new people. Her way of managing nerves is to bark from a distance or retreat if someone tries to engage too quickly. She does best when visitors simply ignore her, allowing her the dignity and safety of deciding when to say hello. Potential Flight Risk: Macaroni is still adjusting to the concept of boundaries. She currently dislikes the leash and has shown a knack for jumping fences when overwhelmed. Because of this, she needs a secure yard and an adopter who understands her flight risk until she is fully bonded and confident in her surroundings. (The good news? If she does wander, she’s so attached to her people that she naturally gravitates right back.) Why You’ll Want Her on Your Team Once the "shell" comes off, Macaroni is a delight. She is not just a project; she is a personality waiting to shine: The Wiggle-Butt Factor: When she’s happy, she does the cutest, most infectious wiggle-butt dance. If you talk to her, she’ll light up, showing you the silly, playful side that has been waiting to come out. Morning Zoomies: Nothing beats the sight of Macaroni enjoying her morning zoomies in the yard. She’s learning how to play, how to chase, and how to be a dog. A True Friend: She loves her canine best friend, Cheese. Watching her blossom alongside him has shown us that she has a massive capacity for love—she just needs the right environment to let it out. The Perfect Match Macaroni is looking for a home that can offer: A Canine Mentor: She must have a confident, balanced dog in the home. She relies on other dogs to show her the ropes and help her feel secure enough to be herself. A Low-Traffic Environment: Because of her fear of strangers, she would thrive in a home with adults or older teens who can respect her need for space. Patience and Security: An adopter who is committed to a "safety-first" approach regarding leashes and fences, and who understands that she needs time to settle in before she truly reveals her full, playful personality. Are you the patient, steady hand Macaroni has been waiting for? She has so much love to give to the right person. If you're ready to provide a sanctuary for this sweet, wiggly girl, please click the apply button today! We would love to see Macaroni and Cheese find their forever home together. If that isn't possible, she still requires a home with another confident dog to help her navigate her new world.

Story
Meet Maru: Maru is about a 10 year old (as of July 2026) Jack Russell Terrier mix (best guess) that weighs about 16 pounds. Maru was surrendered to a high kill shelter in Tennessee. One of our regular rescuers witnessed poor Maru being dropped off while they were picking up another dog. His owners said they didn’t have time for him anymore; they removed his harness and leash and took his blanket and toy out of his crate and took him inside in the empty crate. The little buddy was scared and confused, but luckily we were able to find an open spot and went to pick him up the next day. Maru is now being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Maru was shy at first but warmed up after a day. Maru has been good with other dogs, but seems to be overwhelmed by the multiple dogs in his foster home. We believe he would prefer a home with one other dog or he would also seem happy on his own. Maru is a big snuggler and loves nothing better than to lay in his person’s lap! Maru is good with people, but we think small children may scare him - he would love a calmer more laid back environment. Maru is crate trained, but loves his doggy bed to snuggle in. When Maru sees his harness he gets very excited to be able to go on a walk - he loves his walks and is great on the leash. Maru loves to be outside and we would love for him to have a home with a fenced in yard for him to sniff and sunbathe the day away. Maru is house trained. Maru is up to date on his shots and neutered. If you are interested in relaxing with this sweetheart, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
Meet Bingo: Bingo is an 11 year old (as of April 2026) Jack Russell / border collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 22 pounds. Bingo was surrendered by her owner with her sister, Liza Jean, in a small rural shelter in early April 2026. The woman had recently lost her husband and her home and was having to move into a new place that only allowed 2 dogs but she had 4. She was very distraught at the situation, but had no other choice. Bingo was terribly stressed at the shelter where she only stayed a day or so before we were able to take her in. She was never combative or aggressive, but very shut down and stressed. Bingo took a few days to decompress and come out of her shell once in her foster home. Bingo has struggled with losing her only known home, but she now likes to come to her foster to be petted and will sit in his lap for a while. Bingo wags her tail when he comes in from anywhere. Bingo is a very sweet dog. Bingo would do best with a family that wants a dog to cuddle, but she's not a dog that wants to take long strolls.  Bingo is being fostered with another dog and a cat. She gets along wonderfully with both. We feel she would be good with another dog or a cat in the house, but it's not a requirement. She has been welcoming family and friends as they come into the foster home without hesitation. Bingo would do best in a home with children 8+ years or with a family that has taught their children to be respectful of a dog's space. Bingo is currently being fostered in the Landisville, PA area and would love to meet her forever family. Bingo may need patience and understanding from her new family while she adjusts to another change in her living situation. Bingo was trained to use a doggie door to use the bathroom by her previous owner, but is learning a more traditional method in her current foster home. Bingo was not leashed in her previous owner's home and is learning that the leash is not a bad thing. Bingo would do best with a fenced in yard so she can play freely. Bingo is up to date on her shots and is spayed. If you are interested in showing this confused lady the consistent love she deserves, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application.
