RESCUE STORY - I was rescued last August after I was found abandoned in the dog park; sadly a common way for owners to get rid of their pets here in Mexico. I must have had a home before, but nothin is known about my past life. I had pneumonia and was hospitalized for two weeks after rescue, but I made a full recovery and am a healthy boy now, ready to find my forever home!
TEMPERAMENT - I love playing with dogs and people. I'm also comfy resting and chilling by myself too. I currently live in a shelter where I share a room with 16 dogs of all ages and sizes and I haven't shown any resource guarding. I'm well socialized with people, including children. I get excited when meeting people on my walks and I'm friendly pretty much from the first moment (video). Fun fact, I sometimes let out an adorable, random howl hehe (video), but other than that I'm not an overly vocal dog. I also have a charming little underbite.
ENERGY LEVEL - Medium. I'm a happy medium for energy - I like playing but once I've had my mental and physical exercise, I'm happy to chill and cuddle.
GETS ALONG WITH:
Kids – Older children, yes. I met an older child on my walk and was fairly comfortable (video). I don't have any experience with young kiddos since being rescued.
as with ALL dogs, I should always be supervised around children and I need to have my space respected. It's important to remember I am a rescue pup with minimal training, so I may play nip or bounce/jump up on people (including children!)
Dogs – Yup! I live with lots of other dogs at the shelter, and we get along great. I'm a pretty social doggo who likes the presence of other dogs. I'm neutral when meeting new dogs on walks (video).
Cats – Unknown
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc. My adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Leash skills – Walking on leash is a work in progress for me (video). I don't pull really, but I'm a bit chaotic and I get distracted by dogs, people and noises. I tend to seek attention from the person walking me instead of focusing on moving forward. I don't love walking near traffic and I prefer to keep some distance from the road. I think I'd like a home in a quiet area where there's not lots of traffic (perhaps I'm not a city boy). I'm looking for an adopter who can help me work on my leash skills; dedicated leash training and a well fitted collar or harness will help set me up for success!
House trained – Work in progress! Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)
HEALTH NOTES:
I am neutered and vaccinated. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
NOTE: I had one retained testicle, but had it removed when I was neutered.
I receive a monthly pill to prevent heartworm.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750 + 7% PST and 5% GST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
