Handsome Adak, pronounced “ay-dack,” was named after an island in Alaska. Adak was a stray at a shelter that no one claimed. A happy boy that loves attention from his people, Adak will come over to you just to be petted. And if you sit or lie down on the floor he will be right next to you. He is a little reserved when first meeting a new person, but once you’re in his pack, he will be your best friend. Adak is a smart boy who knows some basic commands. This may have something to do with being very treat motivated. He is also a counter surfer so keep your counters clean! An energetic boy, Adak requires 1-2 daily walks; and he enjoys patrolling the backyard at his foster home. Adak also takes time out for a good nap. He enjoys the companionship of other dogs and would be very happy to have a female playmate in his furever home that matches his energy. He does fine with dog friendly cats. Adak is crate trained and rides great in the car. He walks pretty well on a leash until he sees something he wants to go see and then he pulls some in excitement. We think Adak is a Maremma Sheepdog, a livestock guardian breed similar to a Great Pyrenees. At 2.5 years old, he weighs about 90 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Adoption Requirements *A minimum 5 ft fence *A home visit *Children in the home should be 12+ *A vet check with at least a two year vet history Adopters can be located in Missouri and surrounding states: Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois. We are able to help transport to those states.

Beautiful Lyra (pronounced leer-uh) needs a very specific home. She needs a quieter home and someone who can be patient and give her time to trust. Once she does, Lyra has a lot of love to give! Lyra does well with cats and other dogs and she likes playing with toys. Lyra is not destructive in the house and is mostly housetrained. She is still protective of her home and needs time to warm up to new people which is quite understandable given her prior history of abuse. More about Lyra: ✅affectionate & loves to cuddle ✅likes to chase squirrels ✅rides well in the car ✅takes treats gently & is learning to sit for treats ✅likes sleeping on the bed ✅enjoys walks & walks well on a leash A small Pyrenees, Lyra weighs 56 lbs. and is about 2 years old. She is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, microchipped, and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Lyra is being fostered in St Louis, MO. Howie is the last of his siblings still available for adoption. Howie is part of the West Plains, MO litter that we rescued in March. They were abandoned outside when their owner passed away. Howie is growing up in rescue. He is really ready for a family of his own! Howie is a very sweet, affectionate and attentive dog. He bonds easily to the people around him. Watch out for his big Pyr paw when he wants attention! Howie loves to play with both people, cats, and other dogs. He is affectionate with the cats and curious and respectful of the parakeet in his foster home. Howie can also play on his own and is crate trained or can be gated off in a room when you’re not home. Howie particularly likes ice cubes, chew toys, and soft toys. At 9 months old, Howie is already a big boy so it's hard to remember that he's still a puppy. He doesn't quite always know what his body is doing; coordination is still developing! A typical Pyrenees, Howie will alert you when he hears deliveries or comings and goings outside. Howie is 100% potty trained and walks pretty well on a leash. Howie weighs about 80 lbs. He is up to date on core vaccines, microchipped and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Howie will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to neuter at a later date and must provide vet records at that time. Howie is being fostered in Columbia, MO. Adoption Requirements *A secure & visible fence *A home visit *A vet check with at least a two year vet history Adopters can be located in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, and Arkansas. We are able to help transport to those states.
