Story
I've had Nikita since she was 3 months old. She is now 6 years old. I am looking for a new home and new dog parents who will love and care for Nikita as I have tried to do all these years. She is a sweet dispositioned animal who has been adaptable to change due to my financial and living circumstances. As much as I do not wish to part with her, it is better for Nikita to have a more stable environment. She is beautiful and loving and a happy dog. Whoever gets to be her new dog parent(s) will be lucky to have her.

Story
This is Ava! Ava is a 3 year old Akita with the perfect personality for a fun loving and laid back family! Some of her favorite things include going on walks, soaking up the sun, and getting lots of pettings from anybody! Her ideal family is one who is ready to take on what Ava needs, someone who has a passion for rescuing dogs in need! Ava has Uveodermatologic syndrome, an autoimmune disease. The main side effect of this condition are her eyes and skin. Ava has already undergone the surgery and has had her eyes removed; however there are still effects on her skin. Without medication her skin will become dry and she will lose fur, due to this she is on prednisone. Taking daily. With the medication her condition is easily managed and vet visits are not more than any other puppy. Despite her hard beginning on life Ava is now a very happy girl and loves the little things that surround her! If you’d like to see more she does have an Instagram page @ the_brave_ave

Story
***Myles is a COURTESY POST! All applications will be forwarded to his current owner. From his owner: Myles is a 7-year-old, male Akita in need of a loving forever home. He is neutered, up to date on all shots, and house-trained. He loves his walks and loves treats even more! He is very protective of his loved ones and household. He did live with a French bulldog and Yorkie and was very gentle with them but they were brought into the home as puppies. Would just rather be safe as he has had some aggression towards some dogs in the past. He would of course love a yard to run around in but we don't think it's absolutely necessary as he walks very well on a leash and is not reactive at all while walking, unless of course someone gets too close as again, he is very protective. If you welcome someone into your home he is very friendly and loving towards them and loves to give hugs! He is a very healthy boy and is currently eating half fresh food and half kibble. Would love for someone to keep that up or even go full fresh but since he has been on the half/half his whole life we would want that at the least. He is currently located in Hanover Maryland but we are willing to transport him for the right home.

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Myles is 7yo, weigh 115lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccinations, and is not microchipped.  He knows the following commands:  sit; stay; paw; down; and place.  Myles dislikes/fears loud noises, 'and is the only time he really barks'.  Myles loves riding in the car.  Myles's guardian adds:  " He loves his walks and loves treats even more!  He is very protective of his loved ones and should be the only dog.  He did live with a French bulldog and Yorkie and was very gentle with them but we do not think that would be the case going into a new home.  Would just rather be safe as he has had some aggression towards other dogs in the past.  He would of course love a yard to run around in but we don’t think it’s absolutely necessary as he walks very well on a leash and is not reactive at all while walking, unless of course someone gets too close as again, he is very protective.  If you welcome someone into your home he is very friendly and loving towards them, he loves to give hugs!! " Myles's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  "Myles went to live with my ex when we split up 4 years ago.  He was relocated for work to Miami FL and it was a horrible situation for Myles in a high rise apartment in Miami.  I took him so he wouldn't end up in a shelter but I cannot keep him as I have 4 dogs of my own and one of them has been in a fight with Myles before and they hate each other." SCRATCH INCIDENT:  In August 2023, in Miami, FL, Myles scratched someone, which didn't break the skin, medical intervention was not necessary and Animal Control was not involved.  Myles's guardian explains:  "Someone was trying to pet his frenchie brother in the apartment building.  His own shouldn't have let anyone pet either of them as he is protective." Myles's guardian states the following regarding children:  Myles hasn't lived with children and since he's been around older children, his guardian recommends his living with older children.  Myles's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Myles has lived with dogs, but his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "I have not allowed him to interact at all as I'm not comfortable".   Myles's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Myles hasn't lived with or otherwise been around cats, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats. Myles's guardian describes him as: Couch potato Quiet Playful Likes to be touched Affectionate Independent Protective Indoor dog House-Trained Likes men Likes women Myles's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Myles future home will continue to feed him the diet he has been eating (half Iams kibble and half Ollie's fresh food).  He, of course, would love a fenced in backyard to run around, but it’s not absolutely necessary as he is a huge couch potato.  And just someone to show him the love and attention he deserves on a daily basis. Story
CHANCE – have you ever seen a more handsome fella? Just a few things about this sweet guy. The vet believes that Chance is between 18mo - 2yrs old and weighs 59lbs. • He is heart worm negative and neutered. •He is super sweet and gentle - wants to cuddle and be near his person. •He is dog-friendly (the foster doesn’t have cats, so we are not certain if he’s cat-friendly) •He is people-friendly to everyone he has met. Foster does not have small children, but he has been fine around children on walks. Due to his size and youth, he might knock down small children, but he is not aggressive. •He is house broken. Even in the rain and snow he has let us know he needs to go out. •He is a little timid to new people at first, but warms up quickly. •He very rarely barks. •He has learned to sit, walk on a leash, and “wait” for his food bowl to be put down. •He is very food motivated, so can be easily trained with treat rewards. He is not reactive when eating. •He can be possessive over certain toys with a low, warning growl if another dog tries to take it from him. •He is not interested in fetching a ball, but loves chew toys and antlers. • He can be very active, but is also happy cuddled up with his person. •He would do great in a house with another dog, but would be fine as an only dog also. Once adopted Chance will travel via private transport (transport cost is $160.00) to a location closest to you. If you would like to make this pretty boy part of your family please follow the link below to our application. https://forms.gle/APKvbgFJcaRvgKgk9

Story
Cassie's owner was  homeless and realized that he had to give her up for her sake.  She was frightened in the shelter initially, but warmed up to the staff fairly quickly.  When our volunteer went to meet her, all Cassie wanted to do was sit next to her and be petted.  She will not be available until after she is spayed in Mid-April.  We are still getting to know Cassie better so  stay tuned for more info.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 18, 2024, 12:02 am

Story
Teagan is a small Akita and new to us.  She came from a very small shelter in NC that was overcrowded.  Luckily we found a space for her and were able to arrange transport.. What we know so far is that everyone who has dealt with her loves her: shelter, transporters, overnighters.  We also know she can climb over a 4 ft chain link fence and has tried, unsuccessfully to do the same at the kennel. She really wants to be in the house with people. She is also a counter cruiser. Rides well in a car, no guarding issues with humans, and crates. Stay tuned for more info.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 18, 2024, 12:02 am

Not good with dogs, Not good with cats,
Story
Akai camd from a shelter in NC.  Here is what the shelter said about her: 'This beautiful girl is Akaie. She has been fostered out twice to potential adopters from our shelter but returned both times, as neither potential adopter was familiar with the breed and she was “too much” for them. There was no mention of aggression or anything dealing with behavior, just that she was too strong for one’s wife to walk while he is at work and then the second foster read information on the breed and decided she was not a match for her. We would love to find an Akita Rescue that could pull her from our facility and find the right family for her. ' The shelter workers adored her. Here is what we know about her from her time with us.  She is great with people.  Very particular about what dogs she likes.  Has a fairly high prey drive, so no small dogs or cats. She is at our kennel.  As with all Akitas, she does not like to potty in her run.  Update: Akai has been in a foster home for about 3 weeks. She’s been to the groomers and the vet, no issues with anyone there. She will sit, down and dance when you ask to. She mostly walks well with minor corrections.  She is housebroken and the foster says she is a gem. She has been to the foster’s place of business (store), and has been okay with most of the customers.  She is not crazy about men in baseball caps. A contractor waring a hat met her and when he held out his hand for her to sniff, she growled.  Once he removed his hat, she was fine. One man walked into the store and she disliked him so much she had to be out of the store.Sh barked intensely at him.  Akai needs a home with some Akita experience. He is super friendly, good with other dogs, good with people and kids, just too high energy, this family can't give him what he needs.
