Story
Meet Harbor – A Gentle Soul Ready to Drop Anchor in Your HeartHarbor is a handsome senior gentleman, estimated to be 7 years old or older, with the look of a unique Akita mix and stunning brown and copper coloring throughout his coat. He’s the kind of dog who turns heads with his beauty—but it’s his gentle spirit that truly stays with you. After coming to us as a stray, Harbor has made it clear just how much he loves being around people. He finds comfort in human companionship and soaks up affection with quiet gratitude. He’s an incredibly sweet, easygoing boy with a calm, steady presence that makes every moment with him feel peaceful. Inside the home, Harbor is happiest simply following his people from room to room before settling down nearby to relax. We believe Harbor is nearly, if not completely, deaf—but it hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He navigates the world with confidence and responds well to visual cues and gentle guidance. What he may lack in hearing, he more than makes up for in heart.Harbor is potty trained and will even lay by the door to let you know when he needs to go out—such a polite gentleman. He rides wonderfully in the car and enjoys tagging along for errands, making him an easy companion for day-to-day life. He also genuinely enjoys being pampered—baths, brushing, and even a good blow dry are all on his list of favorite things. He’s a social, loving boy who greets everyone like a friend—truly, no one is a stranger to Harbor. He may chase cats if they’re within sight, but once they’re out of view, he settles back down quickly. Harbor also appreciates having his own quiet moments and will occasionally choose to relax in his crate for a bit of alone time.Harbor would do best in a home that appreciates the slower, softer pace of a senior dog and is ready to offer patience, consistency, and love. He’s the kind of companion who will happily stay by your side, content just to be near his people. If you`re looking for a loyal, soulful companion to share your days with, Harbor may be the perfect match. Come meet him—he’s ready to find a place to finally call home.If you would like to meet Harbor, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cove

Story
Keyoko is the sweetest girl you will ever meet. She had been living a good life until her owner died and she - and her buddy Zeus - suddenly found themselves at the shelter with nowhere to go. One of our wonderful fosters has agreed to take both of them in until we can find their new forever homes. In addition, a kind supporter has sponsored part of her adoption fee to help her get settled soon. At 8yrs old, Keyoko is still playful and loves to cuddle with her people. She is looking for a safe and loving home. If you think that could be yours, click on the big black button marked "Ask About Me" and we will send you an application. This dog is being fostered in TN but included in your adoption fee is transport to a location near you by Rescue Riders Pet Transport, the most animal-friendly transport on the road.

We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Cocoa(10) is a purebred Akita. She was a gift many years ago and has been a great protector and pet. Through the many changes that life has brought Cocoa is no longer a good fit for our household. She lives in a house with children, with limited interaction, and never any issues. Does well with male dogs. Please feel free to reach out with any questions

Story
***Video of him can be seen on our Facebook page here.*** Snow has been in our care for over six months, after coming in at the end of July running loose and severely malnourished. A long court case meant we had to hold him for five months, but that chapter is finally closed — and Snow is ready for his fresh start. At about 2 years old, he’s a sweet‑natured husky mix with a calm, gentle energy. He knows “sit,” loves rolling in the grass, and melts for ear scratches. There’s a quiet softness to him — a gratitude that shows as he learns to trust again. Snow will thrive in an active home with daily walks, outdoor adventures, and patient confidence‑building. He blossoms with consistency and kindness. His sister Snickers is also available, and while we’d love to see them adopted together, we recommend Snow join a home with at least one other dog he can bond with to help build his confidence. Snow is ready for love, stability, and a real chance at happiness. He just needs someone to choose him. Online Dog Adoption Forms: https://wacshelter.com/adopt-a-dog/ Website for general questions: www.wacshelter.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wacshelter/ Email: wacvolunteers@gmail.com ** Be sure to check out our FACEBOOK page for day to day updates on our cats and dogs. Canine adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter Age appropriate vaccinations Deworming Flea prevention (if required) Heartworm screening/monthly prevention ** Volunteer dog walkers work with our dogs 7 days a week. What your adoption fee also includes is housetraining, leash walking and a good understanding of the kind of home each dog would thrive in. ADOPTION FEE: $ 150 "People who say money can't buy you happiness, have never paid an adoption fee...." IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog

Story
Meet Jack ?? Jack is a handsome, approximately 5-year-old pup with a mysterious past and a heart that's ready to belong to someone special. While we don't know where he came from, it's clear that Jack is eager to form a strong bond with his person. Jack does experience some separation anxiety, so he's looking for a homebody or someone who's around more often than not. He is currently on Prozac to help manage his separation anxiety, and it has been part of his ongoing progress. In return for your patience and consistency, Jack will reward you with loyalty, enthusiasm, and plenty of personality. If you've been gone a little too long, don't worry &#194&#151 Jack will happily give you the third degree when you walk through the door ?? This smart guy loves his daily walks and has become a master puzzler when treats are involved. Mental stimulation is right up his alley! Jack can be a bit timid at first (we suspect due to his past), but once he warms up, his silly, playful side really shines. Jack is also a little unsure about hardwood and tile floors and is currently not comfortable going down basement steps. With patience, encouragement, and time, he may continue to build confidence in new environments. When it comes to other dogs, Jack needs slow, proper introductions. We are currently working with a trainer to help him feel more comfortable around other dogs, and he is making progress with guidance and structure. Jack is a bit of an escape artist and will look for opportunities to dash out the door, so a secure home with a privacy fence is strongly recommended. For this reason, a home without young children would be the best fit. Jack is best suited for someone patient, understanding, and committed to continuing his training and confidence-building. If you're looking for a loyal walking buddy with a goofy streak and a big personality, Jack just might be your perfect match. ?? **All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. We believe in pediatric spay and neuter. All animals will be spayed or neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV or heartworm, given age-appropriate boosters and rabies, dewormed, flea treated, and anything extra that is needed to give this animal a wonderful forever life in a permanent home. Adoption fees are usually $50 for cats and between $150-$250 for dogs, unless the pet is sponsored or we are running a promotion. Please visit our website at sheltertohome.com for information on our adoption process.**March 7, 2026, 7:34 pm
