Story
Keyoko is the sweetest girl you will ever meet. She had been living a good life until her owner died and she - and her buddy Zeus - suddenly found themselves at the shelter with nowhere to go. One of our wonderful fosters has agreed to take both of them in until we can find their new forever homes. In addition, a kind supporter has sponsored part of her adoption fee to help her get settled soon. At 8yrs old, Keyoko is still playful and loves to cuddle with her people. She is looking for a safe and loving home. If you think that could be yours, click on the big black button marked "Ask About Me" and we will send you an application. This dog is being fostered in TN but included in your adoption fee is transport to a location near you by Rescue Riders Pet Transport, the most animal-friendly transport on the road.

Story
🐾❤️Meet Sundance❤️🐾 Meet Sundance! He was found as a stray and thankfully brought to safety. So far, he has shown us he is a lovable guy, but is not friendly with other dogs. Online Dog Adoption Forms: https://wacshelter.com/adopt-a-dog/ Website for general questions: www.wacshelter.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wacshelter/ Email: wacvolunteers@gmail.com ** Be sure to check out our FACEBOOK page for day-to-day updates on our cats and dogs. Canine adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter Age-appropriate vaccinations Deworming Flea prevention (if required) Heartworm screening/monthly prevention ADOPTION FEE: $ 150 "People who say money can't buy you happiness, have never paid an adoption fee...." IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog

Story
Ryden is a 2-year-old neutered Akita located in Muskegon, Michigan. He was raised in a home environment after being acquired as a puppy and has grown into a loyal, devoted companion. As an Akita, Ryden has natural protective instincts and forms strong bonds with his people. He has no bite history toward people and is deeply affectionate and people-oriented. He enjoys being near his family, leans in for pets, and thrives when he feels included. Recently, his family welcomed unexpected twin babies. With two newborns requiring constant supervision, they made the difficult decision that they could no longer provide Ryden the consistent time, structure, and focused attention he needs. They also felt that managing infants alongside a large guardian breed — especially one that needs structured boundaries — would not be the most responsible long-term setup. Ryden has shown some resource guarding behaviors around food. This is manageable with proper structure, training, and experience.

Story
Meet Harbor – A Gentle Soul Ready to Drop Anchor in Your HeartHarbor is a handsome senior gentleman, estimated to be 7 years old or older, with the look of a unique Akita mix and stunning brown and copper coloring throughout his coat. He’s the kind of dog who turns heads with his beauty—but it’s his gentle spirit that truly stays with you. After coming to us as a stray, Harbor has made it clear just how much he loves being around people. He finds comfort in human companionship and soaks up affection with quiet gratitude. He’s an incredibly sweet, easygoing boy with a calm, steady presence that makes every moment with him feel peaceful. Inside the home, Harbor is happiest simply following his people from room to room before settling down nearby to relax. We believe Harbor is nearly, if not completely, deaf—but it hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He navigates the world with confidence and responds well to visual cues and gentle guidance. What he may lack in hearing, he more than makes up for in heart.Harbor is potty trained and will even lay by the door to let you know when he needs to go out—such a polite gentleman. He rides wonderfully in the car and enjoys tagging along for errands, making him an easy companion for day-to-day life. He also genuinely enjoys being pampered—baths, brushing, and even a good blow dry are all on his list of favorite things. He’s a social, loving boy who greets everyone like a friend—truly, no one is a stranger to Harbor. We have discovered that Harbor gets a little too excited around cats so he would be most comfortable in a cat-free home. Harbor also appreciates having his own quiet moments and will occasionally choose to relax in his crate for a bit of alone time.Harbor would do best in a home that appreciates the slower, softer pace of a senior dog and is ready to offer patience, consistency, and love. He’s the kind of companion who will happily stay by your side, content just to be near his people. If you`re looking for a loyal, soulful companion to share your days with, Harbor may be the perfect match. Come meet him—he’s ready to find a place to finally call home.If you would like to meet Harbor, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250
