He enjoys walks, frozen Kongs, puzzle toys, squeaky toys, and, of course, keeping an eye out for squirrels and birds! He's actually a fairly low-maintenance youngster when it comes to exercise, but his prey drive definitely kicks into high gear when something catches his attention.Tonka is a smart guy who's picking up his basic manners, even if he sometimes likes to pretend he isn't paying attention! He'll happily work for food or toys and is making progress with impulse control and grooming. He's looking for a confident, consistent handler who can continue his training and help him make good choices.Tonka does well with other dogs and seems to particularly enjoy the smaller ones, but he's still learning to read social cues and can sometimes mistake another dog's correction for an invitation to play. Slow, thoughtful introductions are important. He also has a strong prey drive toward cats and wildlife, so a home without cats is a must.Like many Akitas, Tonka isn't the right fit for every home. He's looking for an experienced, breed-savvy adopter who understands the breed and can provide structure, boundaries, and proper management. Read below for more information.All of our dogs are located in a foster home in Texas or Pennsylvania. Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue. The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport. As a Mutts N Such direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, Facetime, etc).Our out of state adoption fee is $350 plus transport (varies by location). This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, a registered microchip, fecal analysis, spay/neuter for pets 6 months & older, and a heartworm test if over 6 months old. All dogs will be current on flea/heartworm prevention. A health exam will be completed and a certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days.
