Story
Donnie and Marie arrived at Satchel’s Last Resort after being pulled from animal services, carrying with them a past we can only guess was deeply painful. Their bodies told a story their voices couldn’t—both were emaciated, crawling with internal and external parasites, and suffering from severely neglected skin. It was clear they had endured far more than any dog should. But in the middle of all that hardship, Donnie and Marie shined. From the moment they came through our doors, their tails wagged with a quiet, hopeful joy. Their eyes, though tired, lit up every time someone knelt down to say hello. Despite the tremendous neglect they had experienced, both dogs greeted the world with sweetness, trust, and a contagious happiness that spread to everyone who met them. What’s even more remarkable is how much they adore other dogs and people. Their resilient spirits seem to remind us all that love can outgrow even the hardest beginnings. Donnie and Marie don’t dwell on what happened to them—they’re too busy embracing every soft bed, every gentle touch, and every new friend with open hearts. Today, they are safe, healing, and learning what it means to be cherished. And in return, they brighten our days with the kind of joy only the bravest souls can give. They have, obviously, endured a lot together. While they would be thrilled to remain a pair, we truly believe each would adapt well to a separate home if it meant finding the right match. What matters most is that they both get the chance they deserve—to be loved, protected, and valued. Donnie and Marie have so much affection to give, and each one would make a remarkable companion for a family ready to open their heart. Recent bloodwork shows they both have heartworm disease and they will soon be starting treatment. They'd love to be in a loving foster home for the 3 months required calm time. From a volunteer about Donnie: No words other than pure goodness, angel with a constant WAGGING tail, and 100% love comes from this amazing gentleman. His tail never stopped wagging . EVER He doesn't know a Stranger and has so much love ❤️ to give back despite his physical appearance from neglect and cruelty. He has an eye infection which we are currently medicating with the hopes full vision will return . He wants to make you smile instantly w his friendly personality .

From a volunteer: Grab a Kleenex and get ready y'all... Other words that describe petite Marie other than angel, pure love ❤️, sweet soul, beyond gentle natured and loving !!! I immediately wanted to cry BUT she kissed my sadness away . She's all tail wags, despite her physical scars, missing hair and neglect beyond my comprehension. As a volunteer who lives and breaths helping shelter dogs I commend satchels for saving Marie and her darling bonded half Donnie!!!

Story
This incredible mama got a second chance just in the nick of time. She was discovered by a demolition crew who took the extra step to check the home before work began—and there, hidden inside, was her and her nine precious babies.  Since arriving at the Rescue Center, she’s completely stolen our hearts and quickly became a staff favorite. She adores everyone she meets, walks beautifully on a leash, and has the most soulful, gentle expression. Loving and kind by nature, she enjoys playtime and even greets her people with a special happy dance that will instantly make you smile. She is truly the sweetest girl and would thrive in just about any home. All she’s missing now is a family to call her own—and a forever filled with love, safety, and happiness. https://www.fluffanimalrescue.org/adoption-application My adoption fee includes my sterilization, microchip and registration, all core vaccines to date, dewormer and 1st month's Flea and Heartworm Preventatives. Hi-My name is Hank.I LOVE: toys and I like to play. I also like treats and can catch them midair! I KNOW: I`m easy on the leash and have good manners. The volunteers say I`m a `furry angel`. IF YOU`RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE: that is active and smart enough to know when it`s quiet time, that`s me. I`d love to join you for a walk or cuddles on the couch. I AM SPECIAL BECAUSE: I will welcome you home each day with a big smile, wagging tail and kisses. I want you to be happy.

Found neglected and forgotten, she had every reason to give up on humans—but that’s just not who she is. Despite everything, this 38 lb, two-year-old girl still believes in love. She still wags her tail. She still greets every new person, dog, and even cat with gentle curiosity and warmth. She’s smaller than others of her breed, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in heart. Canela is affectionate, eager to please, and happiest when she’s near her people. She’s the kind of dog who leans into you for extra pets, who looks up at you with soulful eyes as if she understands everything you’re saying, and who will trot alongside you, just grateful to be by your side. She’s also potty trained, crate trained, and food motivated, making her not just lovable, but easy to welcome into your home. Fully vetted—spayed, vaccinated, and on preventatives—Canela is ready to leave her past behind and step into the life she was always meant to have. Don’t let her be overlooked. She’s special.
