Story
I adopted Callie in 2018 she was 4 months old. I got a divorce and I moved into an apartment that does not allow me to have her because of her size. My parents took her and have been caring for her for 3 years now. They are looking to move soon and cannot take her. I am not financially able to move into a house yet and I cannot take her back in my apartment. She is a very sweet girl. She is not around other pets so I don’t know how she does but she has been around my children and never had a problem. There is no rehoming fee because I just want her to go to a loving home that will take care of her and love her.

Story
Donnie and Marie arrived at Satchel’s Last Resort after being pulled from animal services, carrying with them a past we can only guess was deeply painful. Their bodies told a story their voices couldn’t—both were emaciated, crawling with internal and external parasites, and suffering from severely neglected skin. It was clear they had endured far more than any dog should. But in the middle of all that hardship, Donnie and Marie shined. From the moment they came through our doors, their tails wagged with a quiet, hopeful joy. Their eyes, though tired, lit up every time someone knelt down to say hello. Despite the tremendous neglect they had experienced, both dogs greeted the world with sweetness, trust, and a contagious happiness that spread to everyone who met them. What’s even more remarkable is how much they adore other dogs and people. Their resilient spirits seem to remind us all that love can outgrow even the hardest beginnings. Donnie and Marie don’t dwell on what happened to them—they’re too busy embracing every soft bed, every gentle touch, and every new friend with open hearts. Today, they are safe, healing, and learning what it means to be cherished. And in return, they brighten our days with the kind of joy only the bravest souls can give. They have, obviously, endured a lot together. While they would be thrilled to remain a pair, we truly believe each would adapt well to a separate home if it meant finding the right match. What matters most is that they both get the chance they deserve—to be loved, protected, and valued. Donnie and Marie have so much affection to give, and each one would make a remarkable companion for a family ready to open their heart. Recent bloodwork shows they both have heartworm disease and they will soon be starting treatment. They'd love to be in a loving foster home for the 3 months required calm time. From a volunteer about Donnie: No words other than pure goodness, angel with a constant WAGGING tail, and 100% love comes from this amazing gentleman. His tail never stopped wagging . EVER He doesn't know a Stranger and has so much love ❤️ to give back despite his physical appearance from neglect and cruelty. He has an eye infection which we are currently medicating with the hopes full vision will return . He wants to make you smile instantly w his friendly personality .

From a volunteer: Grab a Kleenex and get ready y'all... Other words that describe petite Marie other than angel, pure love ❤️, sweet soul, beyond gentle natured and loving !!! I immediately wanted to cry BUT she kissed my sadness away . She's all tail wags, despite her physical scars, missing hair and neglect beyond my comprehension. As a volunteer who lives and breaths helping shelter dogs I commend satchels for saving Marie and her darling bonded half Donnie!!!

Story
Zeus was born September 28, 2022. He is an American Bully. I am unaware of his initial origin. A family member had gotten him from his original owner. They lived in an apartment. POST covid they became house insecure and intended to get rid of him. I offered to assist in keeping him for 3-months. After he returned home, they told me their new apartment would not accept dogs, so they needed to get rid of him. I took him back. My challenge is; I am 73 y/o, I am working to keep up with inflation. Zeus has separation anxiety and sometimes damages things. He loves the outdoors but has to be restrain because he has recovered from ligaments problems. When I travel away from home and cannot take him with me. It's quite expensive. It's unaffordable to house him when I take a vacation. I love him dearly but realistically he need another home that has more knowledge about dogs than myself.

Story
Allman is the definition of a Boxer, from his looks to his personality traits! This 8-year-old boy is always looking for opportunity to play, and loves making everything a game. He is a great ball player and may not always bring it back, but his enthusiasm keeps the game going. He enjoys carrying toys around wherever he goes, squeaky toys are super fun, but Kong toys are also wonderful. He also has a prankster side with shoes and likes to untie your laces when you are walking. He is loyal to his friends here at Satchel's but can be a bit picky. He takes a little time to get to know people and, although he is high energy, he prefers a calm first-time meeting. Allman has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and they are working on his acceptance of new people. Once accepted, Allman is a loving, playful, intelligent boy who can't wait to be with you. He walks very well on a leash and loves going on adventures. He knows his basic commands and with treats, he can do them with a swiftness. Allman would be the perfect canine companion for someone who loves being active or has a love for and understanding of the Boxer breed. He would do well with a fenced in yard, or multiple walks to get some of the energy down. For an appointment to meet Allman, please submit the adoption application (no-commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Story
This happy girl lives up to her name, a sassy personality indeed. Sassafras is an adult beauty, with a brilliant smile that brightens anyone's day. She is the life of the party and loves to be the center of attention. She can not wait to go outside and either go in the yards and sniff everything possible, or go on a brisk walk, leading the way. Sassy is protective of her space and loyal to her friends but will welcome new people into her circle with a slow introduction. She doesn't seem to mind the company of some canines, but we have found her to be selective and she would prefer to have the people all to herself. She adores toys and goes for the stuffed squeaky toys every time. She will chase balls to the point of exhaustion but her favorite past time is water play. When given the opportunity, she loves splashing in a wading pool, chasing the spray of a hose and swimming in the bay. She is very treat motivated, which is helpful in her learning of basic obedience. Curling up in a comfy bed or cuddled up with a friend is the best way to end her day. If you're looking for that missing piece of love in your life, Sassafras could be the perfect dose to fill your heart. For an appointment to meet Sassafras, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.
