Story
Meet Melon — Soft, Sweet, and Learning to Trust Again Melon’s journey with us began when she curled up on a stranger’s porch, alone and unsure, until a Good Samaritan reached out for help. One of our volunteers brought her to safety, and after a full sedated vet exam — x-rays, bloodwork, and a heartworm test (negative!) — we learned that her swollen belly was caused by a heavy parasite load. She immediately started treatment, and now that most parasites are gone, she’s already feeling so much better. She’s currently finishing up care for ringworm. In just a week, Melon has gone from shut down and frightened to showing glimpses of the truly lovely dog she is. She may still be cautious with strangers, but once she decides you’re safe? She’s all heart. Melon’s Personality• Sweet, gentle, and surprisingly affectionate once she warms up• The best home-office coworker — she loves napping under her foster’s desk during the workday• Lap-lover and kiss-giver once she trusts you• Enjoys walks, though passing cars make her nervous• Curious and hopeful, learning every day that people can be kind Melon recently met a smaller dog and was excited but appropriate — she seems like she could be dog-friendly with slow, structured introductions. We’re going at her pace so she can build confidence safely. What Melon NeedsMelon has been through a lot, and she’ll thrive in a home that can offer:• A calm, predictable environment• Patience as she gains confidence with new people• Slow, gentle introductions to any pets• Support as she continues healing• Understanding, especially on walks when cars feel overwhelming She has already bonded beautifully with her foster and is showing how much she wants to trust, connect, and be part of someone’s life. She’s the kind of dog who will repay kindness tenfold once she feels secure. Help Melon Continue Her JourneyMelon is a resilient, loving girl who is finally getting the chance to feel safe. If you can open your home, even temporarily, you’ll be giving her the stability and love she’s been missing for far too long. If you can foster or adopt Melon, or even share her story, you can help her find the soft landing she deserves.  ##2580931##

Story
Hudnut is a young, wiggly bundle of joy who still very much acts like a big puppy. He’s incredibly sweet and thrives on human attention—his favorite place to be is right by your side. This happy guy loves people and soaks up affection whenever it’s offered. Like many young dogs, Hudnut is still learning his manners and will benefit from continued training and guidance as he grows. The good news? His loving nature and desire to be close to his people make him a great candidate for training—he wants to connect and please. Hudnut would be a wonderful companion for someone ready to invest a little time, patience, and love into helping a young dog blossom into his best self. With the right person, this playful pup is sure to shine. Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.

Story
Hulk is a big, happy bundle of wiggles who is always excited to see what the day has in store. When approached at his kennel, his enthusiasm is impossible to miss—he’s eager to get out, ready to explore, and thrilled to spend time with people. Once outside, Hulk’s body language stays loose and friendly. He can be strong on leash and tends to pull when he’s excited, but he walks confidently through busy environments and did great during a city outing, showing no concern about noises or distractions. He’s curious about his surroundings and enjoys taking everything in while still allowing full-body pets and affection. Hulk is social and friendly, happily approaching staff members with big tail wags and a smile. During enrichment time, he showed off his playful side—loving treat puzzles and chasing tennis balls with enthusiasm. One of his favorite things? Butt scratches. He leans his whole body in, soaking up every bit of affection. Hulk would do well with an adopter who can handle his strength, continue working on leash manners, and provide plenty of outlets for play and enrichment. With his joyful energy, affectionate nature, and confident personality, Hulk is ready to bring a lot of fun—and a lot of love—into his future home. Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Story
Are you looking for a “man’s man”, Look no further than Kong! Kong is a beefcake of a dog and despite his size, is convinced he’s a tiny lap dog. Kong loves short walks to the food bowl, WWE style wrestling matches, pretty ladies, and FOOD. Kong does well with other dogs, children (although they should be pretty sturdy), and we’d be willing to cat test.

Story
I am trying to rehome my boxer, Piper. She is about 8 years old and still very full of life. She would do best in a single person or retired couple home without young children or other pets. She is very jealous and wants to be the center of attention, preferably a man's attention. She does not do well with other dogs and has had altercations in the past with a dog in our extended family. We are sad to rehome her but she is not doing well with our growing family and we want her to be happy with a person who can dote on her. Current location is Indianapolis, IN.

Story
Piper is a big snuggle bug, loves a good nap, and tagging along on walks. She is great with adults and cats, but dogs are a no-go. She is approximately 7 years old. We have to rehome Piper because we are expecting our second child under two years old and will not be able to give her the attention she deserves. She has not been aggressive toward our baby but she has displayed body language suggesting jealousy and we are not willing to risk that with two little ones. She would be best suited to a childless couple or single person. Regardless, she is a great dog and we are sad to see her leave.
