C&C focused K9 notes 4/21/26 (working with Duke 3x a week) Duke has been working hard to be the best version of himself as he looks his forever human. Duke would flourish as a dog trainer’s partner. Someone who understands the importance of maintaining structure and proper socialization. Duke knows his basic commands responding at a mild/moderate level of distance, duration and distraction. He is very neutral in public and quickly understands what is expected when given clear communication. He has demonstrated that he knows proper dog social queues when playing. Duke has great leash etiquette understanding leash pressure and can walk along side dogs and people without needing to meet them. Duke is ecollar trained and typically is used as a backup since responds well to verbal commands. When working in off leash training, he does well staying close by and will recall with low drive (walks back to you versus running). We have worked on going into a crate but haven’t seen how he actually does being crated yet. As amazing as he is, he relies on the confidence of the handler as he continues to build his own confidence. He is a power breed with natural stranger danger that he is still working through with formal introductions and then is the sweetest love bug. Even when he is unsure he responds quickly to commands.

Meet Soyana! Don't let her serious expression fool you—Soyana is anything but sad! In fact, she once wagged her tail so enthusiastically that she gave herself a sore tail. That's how happy this sweet girl is. Soyana is a 2.5-year-old American Bulldog with a calm, easygoing personality and a heart full of love. She adores her people and would happily spend all day by your side. While she's friendly with dogs of all sizes—from tiny 6-pound pups to 60-pound companions—her favorite place will always be wherever her humans are. At 66 pounds, she's convinced she's a lap dog, and honestly, who are we to tell her otherwise? This lovely girl is fully housebroken and does great in her crate, remaining quiet and well-behaved. That said, the crate isn't her favorite spot—she much prefers cuddling up with her family and soaking up all the love and attention she can get. Soyana is currently working on gaining a little weight after leaving the shelter and is already thriving in a home environment. She's not a big eater, but she's steadily filling out and showing just how much happier she is with the comforts of home. Maude is a fabulous little pup! She is quite friendly and gets along with everyone she meets. Maude weighs a little over 40lbs and hits just below knee height. She’s a very easy going, calm, quiet girl. She gets along well with other dogs and is gentle with children. She is a cuddly dog who loves to snuggle up with you on the couch. As far as cats, we aren’t 100% certain - she respects the cats if she’s in their space, but the one time a cat ventured downstairs into “dog territory”, she chased it right back up to the cat room. We aren’t sure if she was just not expecting a small critter to be on the main floor and reacted out of instinct or if she would actually chase cats on a regular basis…our guess is that if she were introduced into a home with confident cats who already ruled the roost, she’d likely do just fine. Maude is crate trained but will bark for a few minutes when you initially put her into the crate, so that’s something to keep in mind if you live in an apartment or townhouse type of setting where neighbors would hear her. She does ok out of a crate unattended as long as shoes and children’s toys are put away. Maude is still working on house training. She arrived at SAAP with a UTI and several infected abscesses that we are currently treating, so we’re hoping her occasional accidents will be resolved once she is recovered and feeling better. You’re welcome to apply for her now, but she won’t be officially adoptable until we’ve gotten the all clear from the vet, which will hopefully be in early October. Sailor is a very handsome, 3 year old, 90lb American bulldog mix. He is as photogenic as they come, and he knows it! He is a cuddly gentle giant who is looking to find his forever family. Sailor would prefer to be in a home where he is the only dog, but he has previously lived with a 10 lb Chihuahua. If you have a resident dog, he would prefer them to be smaller in size and have a lower energy level just like him! He can get a little uncomfortable and anxious when an animal, either dog or cat, or human doesn't respect his personal space, so a home with older kids would be best. He currently lives in a foster home with 3 cats and doesn't pay them any mind. Sailor has shown to be fearful of adult men if they approach him too quickly, but he just needs to know he can trust them! Sailor LOVES people - he always wants to be near you!He loves to give foster mom big sloppy face kisses to tell her how much he loves and appreciates her. He will hop right up in your lap regardless of his size and he'll also lay his body across the middle console while you're driving! He is housebroken. He seems to get anxious when people leave him in a crate so family that is home often would probably suit him best. He's overall well behaved on the leash, he can pull at the very beginning simply out of excitement but he settles right in after a few minutes (he's not super high energy - he's just a big boy!).
