Story
Hi! I'm Cappuccino! I was found on the city streets in Northside of Richmond, Virginia. I was taken in by a kind soul who has gotten me healthy and given me confidence over the last few months. My forever home preferably has a yard because I'm fun and energetic! I'm loyal and know basic commands but I need someone with the ability to get me properly trained in other areas. I love attention, belly rubs and food! Always know I'll do anything for a good treat! I'm desperately looking to get out of the city and into a home of a dog lover that has the time and space to take care of me properly! I was neutered and received all the required shots. I also got my DNA tested. Turns out I'm 50% German Shepherd, 25% American Bulldog and 25% American Bully! I come with toys, harness, and all paperwork from vaccinations. I'm a very good boy and I'm excited to find my forever home!

Story
Attention all Bulldog lovers! This adorable Bulldog named Sweet Tart is in search of her forever home. She may be a bit bossy, but she's also housebroken and crate trained (although she's not a fan of the crate), she is also great for baths and getting her nails trimmed. One thing is she absolutely adores is food - she can't get enough of it! However, she would do best in a home without small children, and if there are other furry friends, she'll need to be fed separately. While she may not fully grasp the concept of playing with other dogs, she loves to snuggle up to them. Sweet Tart is known around the house for her slobbery kisses and will gladly climb onto your lap with her bulky body. With her stubborn and delightfully demanding bulldog personality, she's not afraid to bark and demand her meals when she thinks they're overdue. Her tongue is always hanging out, adding to her irresistibly cute appearance, especially when combined with her adorable underbite. And if that's not enough, she also comes with the bonus of mystery allergies-thanks to some Benadryl it is easily controlled. This sweet old gal has come a long way, and we're thrilled to see her find the loving home she deserves after all this time. Meet Cosmo – Your New Best Friend with a Built-in Alarm System! Looking for a housemate who's handsome, loyal, and always down for a cuddle (or a zoomie)? Cosmo is a compact sized bundle of love, bark, and personality, looking for his forever home! Cosmo is the perfect house dog — just the right size to fit comfortably into your life, with a bark big enough to make delivery drivers think twice. He's got that beefy presence that says "security system," but don’t worry — with people, he's a total softie. With the spirit of a pup and medium energy levels, Cosmo is fun, just the right mix of playful and chill.” A morning trot and an evening zoomie (bonus points if there’s a fenced yard!) are enough to keep him happy. After that? He’s all about the snuggles and his well-deserved beauty sleep. He’d love to be your one-and-only pet and does best with older kids who get that being this cute is serious business. Cosmo might just be your perfect match. Come meet him — and bring snacks. He’s very food-motivated (but who isn’t?). Adopters have 30 days of free access to 1-on-1 text and email support from trainers at Petcademy to help make every pet's transition into their new home as smooth as possible. All dogs available for adoption have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and are current on all vaccinations. Please email dogs@henricohumane.org for more information.

Story
I'm pleased to greet you with Ellie! Ellie joined our family after we found her outside of an apartment, cold and shivering. Throughout her growing up, she has always been around two or more dogs and loved to play a "mama" role for the youngest of the pack. As she has reached her adult years she has developed back/hip arthritis which we medicate as needed with vet approved medication. Which might be a factor into why she started lashing out towards other dogs in these most recent years. Thank you for your time.

Story
I am looking for a new family for my dog. Her name is Anastasia, we call her Ana. She is an American bulldog mix. I rescued her in 2020, they told me she was around 4 years old. She loves being outside, she loves walks. She would do anything for a ball and snacks. She knows lay, sit, wait, paw… she is smart. She is up to date on her vaccinations, she just got them last month. She is good with kids. Another dog attacked her once, since then she doesn’t trust other dogs so she needs to be only dog. She was around a puppy before she was good with the puppy. She doesn’t like cats. We are located in Richmond, Va. I would like to have a new owner because of lack of time.

These pups are in Richmond, Virginia too!

Story
Ruthie is a 2-year-old, 60-lb Boxer mix with a gentle soul and a brilliant mind. Before coming into rescue, Ruthie lived on her own for at least 6 months, skillfully evading capture, multiple trapping attempts, and surviving in an industrial area of town. Fed by kind mechanics and workers, she learned how to stay safe, avoid danger, and always show up for food — and that intelligence still shines through today. After a dramatic capture, Ruthie has been in a foster home, where she’s proven to be a very polite houseguest. She is fully house-trained and, even at her scariest moments, has never shown a hint of aggression — no growling, no raised lips, just fear. Ruthie is shy and deeply cautious with people, but she is sweet, gentle, and incredibly observant. We would not be surprised if Ruthie spent some of her life in someone’s home.  This brainy girl reads the room like a pro. She knows when a human might approach and will quietly skedaddle to keep herself feeling safe. While she’s still very nervous about leashes and handling, she allows most people to gently scratch her muzzle, and she’s learning — slowly but surely — that human touch isn’t such a bad thing. Watching her progress has been incredibly rewarding, especially as she’s started to enjoy ear scratches and soft affection from her foster mom. Ruthie is a great pack dog. She does beautifully with dogs of all sizes and temperaments and enjoys playful wrestling with dogs her size, but doesn’t demand play.  She happily coexists with the resident Chihuahua in her foster home. Ruthie is calm and content indoors and also enjoys a daily visit to the dog park. She’s a quiet presence who’s perfectly happy lounging on a chair, listening to her foster mom’s Zoom calls, and soaking in the safety of home life. At home, Ruthie is her foster mom’s quiet shadow. She sleeps in her room, wiggles with excitement when she comes home, follows her around the dog park — and yet may still hop off her bed and slip away if that same foster mom walks toward her for a pet. With Ruthie, trust is built in tiny, meaningful moments, and every day brings progress. Because of her history, Ruthie is a high flight-risk dog, especially in the early days. She will need a very committed adopter with a securely fenced yard, experience with fearful or flight-risk dogs, and a willingness to use safety tools like GPS collars, double leashes, and secure handling. Strength matters too — this is a 60-lb girl who needs someone confident and prepared. Ruthie has been around children at the dog park and treats them like little adults — with polite, reserved hesitation. She is food-motivated, sweet, and incredibly smart. With patience, structure, and time, she has all the makings of a truly special companion. Ruthie is one of those dogs who, with the right adopter and a few committed months of trust-building, will become a dream dog. Watching her finally relax, feel safe, and just be a dog has been an absolute privilege — and we can’t wait to see her find the forever home she deserves. ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.February 10, 2026, 9:58 pm

Story
Location: New Kent, VAI AM LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT PERSON TO LOVE ME FOREVER AND EVER!  Hiiiiii there!  It is so nice to meet you! I feel like this is a debut of some sort.  I mean, it has been a long time coming, if I do say so myself.  I am ready to find my perfect match, so here it goes! My name is Boze or Bose depending on how you like to spell it, also known as BoBo to my fan club and I am looking for the PERFECT person to give me a forever home. Just kidding, no one is perfect, except for me. I am about 5ish years old, and no one really knows what combination of bully breeds I might be. OBVIOUSLY, I am a Bulldog concoction of some sort, just look at me.  They broke the mold when they made me, I mean that literally.  Perhaps Frenchie, some type of pocket Bully, Old English Bulldog, who the heck really knows, the possibilities are endless.   I am BEAUTIFUL AND I KNOW IT. I mean, they could DNA me, but they don’t care about that because everyone loves me no matter what the heck I am.  If you love a Bulldog, you know how this works so here it goes… My name is Boze because my elbows bow out.  So do my feet and my hind legs.  I am kind of like a science experiment gone wrong. That’s OK, I make up for it with my squishy face and irresistible personality. I love everything about life, ESPECIALLY people and food. I sure do love to eat. I would weigh 100# if you let me. But I realize that would be very bad for my health, so they force me to stay lean, especially because my joints don’t line up the way they are supposed to. If you watch me walk or run, you will see what I mean.  I am mostly lazy; I want to go potty and come right back in.  Occasionally, I get a wild hair and watching me get the zoomies is hilarious.  The back end doesn’t always know what the front end is doing. My foster Mom keeps trying to get video, but it doesn’t do justice to what I look like when I run “fast”. I don’t like my feet to get wet either, it’s gross.  As you know, guys like me can’t breathe well when it is hot, and we sure can’t stay warm when it’s cold outside! That means, I kind of just want to lay on your sofa, duh. I won’t deny a bed, either, just saying. Golly, I love to sleep (and snore).  My foster Mom forces me to walk for about 10-15 minutes each day, but that is weather dependent. She also knows my limits and she’s careful, so I don’t get too out of breath or get too tired.   I get annoyed with her; she doesn’t care because she says, “it’s good for me, in moderation”.  She’s full of it but I won’t win that argument, so I just waddle along with good bits of rolling around in the grass. It’s my life and I do want I want, sort of. No way I will be running a marathon and walking around the block is not something I want to do, either.  See why I said I was lazy? I prefer a quiet house because I get very overstimulated in a loud and unruly environment. Boarding while you travel is a no go for me. I mean, we all have our “things”, right?  That doesn’t mean I don’t do well at home with a pet-sitter.  That is TOTALLY fine. I also REALLY like to have rules, they keep me safe, and boundaries are good for me because they keep me in line.  My foster Mom has lots of rules, but I understand why. She has a bunch of Border Collies, and while they like the rules WAY more than I do, I am a very good boy and happy to comply.  My best buddy is her Frenchie because he understands the way I play and the way I snort. Her Bull Terrier tolerates me, but I can’t say he likes me.  He would rather I just leave him alone, which I do most of the time. I am crate and potty trained, as well. That is where I sleep and eat because again, rules.  You’re impressed, I know you are! I get along well with most dogs and cats. I will say that some dogs think I am weird because I snort a lot. Sometimes, cats need to let me know they don’t appreciate me. I just want a quick sniff, is that too much to ask? Good thing I take those corrections like the gentleman I am and leave them alone. No means no, I get it.  One swipe from those kitties and I am on my way.  Life is too short to try to be friends with folks who don’t like me much. My life was pretty rough before the amazing folks at Bennett’s Creek Veterinary Care in Suffolk, VA decided that I needed OUT of the shelter.  I was bald and in desperate need of some TLC, which did include some procedures to help me breathe better.  I know, I know, not shocking since I am a Bulldog. My family at Bennett’s Creek fixed me up and then sent me home with my foster Mom so I could continue to heal.   While I do have some medical issues, they are manageable if you are willing to stay on top of them.  I need a bath every couple of weeks, I am also on a urinary diet, and I like my food to be soaked or to eat from a slow feeder toy or bowl.  As I mentioned before, I LOVE to eat which means I sometimes eat wayyyy too fast.  That’s not good for me and I know it, but I can’t help myself, so I rely on my peeps to make sure I remember. I am also on some daily meds but those are easy, too.  You just need to be prepared if you are interested in adopting me, that’s all.  I like to be upfront with these things. Honesty is the best policy, you know? My foster Mom, whose name is Mary (by the way), or my amazing family at Bennett’s Creek can help answer any and all questions you might have. Ask for Katie or Summer but PLEASE know that they are SUPER BUSY while they are at work and probably won’t be able to speak to you on the spot. Believe me, it isn’t because they don’t want to, I promise.  Just leave your contact information and someone will get back to you. The number to Bennett’s Creek is 757.483.5990.  Make sure you tell them you are calling to talk to them about me, that’s important. My foster mom’s number is 804.402.0025 and her e-mail is williamsme1213@yahoo.com.  Please be patient, they all work a lot (unlike me).  They will also be really picky about where I land, I am not going to lie. It’s kind of annoying to be loved by so many people but, that’s the life you lead when you look like me. If you have made it this far, thank you!  I will make someone really happy, could it be you? January 5, 2026, 10:46 pm
